Curious, will the game get a bump for the iPad 3 retina display? I found out about the game the other day thanks to the banner ad on Board Game Geek and it looks right up my path
Yay! Our new game have finally been announced! Frontline Tactics http://meridian4.com/games/frontline_tactics More information coming soon...
Will this game ever receive an update to toggle off automatic camera movement/rotation as promised? I waited patiently for months so I could play it, then finally gave up and deleted it a little while ago.
Great to hear about Frontline Tactics and now finally see it. I though this game was cancelled, as I last heard this game was going to be shown at GDC (looks like you got a new publisher now).
Cancelled? Never :-D Just has taken a nice and long time to make it as good as possible. The GDC showing was primarily for finding a good publisher to work with, and we have partnered with Meridian 4 to do that. As mentioned in the press release, we will be at gamescom next week. If you want to take a look at the game, play it a bit and have a chat - simply hit me up in business hall 4.2 booth #J 045. Its on the Nordic Game pavillion. See you there and trailers etc.etc. coming up! /Thomas
Am I missing something? Played about five missions of this so far, and against Hunters 2, this is so much more interesting as an XCOM-like option on iOS. I found Hunters 2 to be sterile, repetitive, and grindy as hell. It's polished, sure, but it also has some very annoying quirks, such as not being able to pass friendly units when moving. This game also has its quirks -- you have to use AP to pick up or trade items, and not being able to strategically reload when you want to is ridiculous -- but by and large, this has so much more going on. I especially appreciate how there's a true survival feel, since ammo is finite. I almost didn't get this game because so many reader reviews said it was a very frustrating game, but I feel like it's gotten a bad rap. Unless it totally tanks later on, I'd said this definitely has a leg up on the Hunters games.
You haven't missed anything. This is truly one of the most underappreciated games in the App Store. I've mentioned this before, but what I find really great about TS:UR is that it really "gets" zombie horror. A fight may seem easy at first, but then the undead begin to gang up on you and it becomes a frantic struggle for survival, where literally every bullet counts. There were so many "oh crap" moments in the game (where I thought I had the situation under control, then realized I didn't) that it wasn't even funny. Glad that you are enjoying it.
Would like to take the plunge, but it has too much negative reviews in German store. They said that the first mission of campaign 2 alone is unbelievable difficult.
I'm in the same situation. I've almost hit Buy 50 times, but despite a few people saying how great the title is, they're substantially outweighed by the numbers of people saying it gets too difficult too quickly... DBC
Tho I love strategic games and played many, I am a bit inexperienced when it comes to tactical iso shooter games like this. This game needs a lite version to try out.
Different opinions, I guess, because I think this game is hugely overrated. Much prefer Hunters 2, especially when comparing tactical choices.
Well, not sure if the sale's still on, but for a buck, you've got little to lose giving it a try. I think one of the things a lot of folks find frustrating is that -- like the Hunters games -- the focus is very much on defensive posturing, as opposed to moving in for the kill. It's not Advance Wars (which is excellent in its own way). It borrows a page from games like Valkyria Chronicles (and XCOM, of course), forcing players to be more methodical. So far, it's nowhere near as difficult as folks have made it out to be. It's simply not a "rush"-type strategy game.
I wonder if people understand what they mean when they use the word "overrated" in this context. I mean professional reviewers use it as way to distinguish themselves from their competitors. Here, though l, people are just expressing their appreciation for a game. Do you think that folks who like Tactical Soldier are wrong? Do you think that your taste trumps theirs? Are you saying that people who like this game are easily impressed? Or do you simply mean to say: "I didn't like it as much as other folk." Because putting it like that is a much better way to engage with others in a forum. /rant
To me, "I think this game is hugely overrated," and, "I don't share the very high opinion of it that some people have," mean the same thing.
Well, David understood it pretty clearly. And frankly, I'm kind of puzzled as to why you're ranting at me. The reason I used the term 'overrated' was a bit of wordplay in counter to your own use of the term 'underappreciated'. So if you're criticizing me for "thinking my taste trumps theirs"--which really isn't the case--then aren't you doing the same thing?
Well, I understood where you were coming from, and I respect your opinion. I don't agree with you, but I can understand nevertheless. I just feel like Hunters 2 (though still a rock-solid XCOM-like) is kinda sterile. Most of the environments are very samey, and the missions are also very much the same thing throughout. TS, however, feels like more of an adventure to me, though it too has its low points. In both cases, I try to keep in perspective the fact these are really cheaply priced games on iOS, and I adjust my expectations accordingly.
