Yeah, there was one level, I "think" it might have been the one with the operating theater, where I cleared the level, move a guy toward a set of doors and suddenly I was surrounded by at least 5 or 6 zombies that weren't there moments ago. They truly just appeared. I remember at the time thinking it was a bit "cheating" to do that, but I just took it in stride and fought my way through it. Wasn't anything bad enough to spoil the experience. I think I'm very close to the end and still enjoying the heck out of the game and am trying to make the final bit last!
So it happened once, and somehow that ruined their whole experience. Right... That it weird, because otherwise the game has such a strong line-of-sight mechanic -- you always see those "New Enemy Comes into View" messages. Perhaps it's a small glitch...
My guess, and it's just that, is that in some of the levels where you get a few waves of zombies that keep coming "around the corner" is that they have to be spawned somewhere. I was thinking they were programmed to spawn in an area that was not expected to have anyone in the area, but perhaps if you played a bit outside the box and had a member of your squad there they could suddenly find themselves elbow to elbow with the undead. Again, just a guess, and most likely a misguided one.
Don't most turn-based strategy titles get mixed reviews? I think it's a pretty polarizing genre... But it's one that I happen to love, so I bought this immediately. Can't wait to give it a try tonight.
One thing's for sure if I play through this game again it's gonna be Rocky-style with bare fists flyin'. Right now I'm always taking weapons and it's been fairly easy but I can see a whole new level of strategy having to engage all enemies mano a mano. Maybe make that a special achievment in the game heh.
Yeah, this CAN potentially happen. But we've tried to minimize it as much as possible. I really doubt it would happen often enough to ruin anyones experience....
Not sure you'd be able to complete the game with just your fists honestly. (if you DO manage that though, let me know, haha). I seem to recall Thomas having played through the game with just the chainsaw though.
There's one thing that doesn't work very well for me, or which is a bit difficult to use, it's the cover command. The first point is I can't use it for more than one soldier, that last in the turn. Perhaps something I don't see/don't remember from the tutorial. The second point is that the hit chance is a quite important element and you don't have much control on it so it makes often cover pointless. Sure you can try take a position where you could hope enemy comes in sight close enough. But it's not easy. I think you should be able to restrict the cover area (and see hit chance) for example with a drag. And that you could use cover for all soldier in a turn, but it's possible there's a control point I don't see.
Yes - I played the game with 2 guys having close combat weapons and one guy having the MG (or was it sniper....) Gets really hairy as you take more hits. But its totally awesome to chop up zombies with chainsaw - hehehehe. /Thomas
I have used it on all 3 members at once on more than one occasion and on any single member regardless of turn order. Must be something you're missing. You can see the area that is covered, and position the member wherever you need to so that the area you want covered is. Perhaps I'm coming at this from a different perspective but I really wouldn't want things to be easier. I like a challenge to have to figure out. It takes more strategy if you aren't allowed to do everything you want to do easily. Maybe it's because I played the heck out of Incubation which had opportunity fire that works pretty much like it does here, but I find it's plenty helpful as it is without being something that becomes the easy "go to" strategy that works every time.
All I can say is that this game could've been better. For one thing, it's way too short for it's price. Tactics in this game are pretty much a guessing game since the only thing you get to see is the hit percentage and the spray area. The item variations in the game are too few. Some of the levels have zombies that spawn out of thin air which is kind of a bummer. I'm a seasoned tactics gamer, so I guess my expectations for a tactics based game on the iOS is a bit high. Good stuff but could've been better. And I read somewhere in this thread that new content is on the way? And they're going to be paid content? I hope there tonnes of new stuff in that one considering it's gonna be a paid upgrade. maybe a duck command along with more dynamic environmental designs in which we can use the surroundings for cover and actually use the guard function more effectively. (kinda like fallout tactics). Oh yea. The guard/defend command I forgot what it's called, it'd be nice to have a choice of how many squares the enemy has to be from the character before commencing fire. But all in all. It's a pretty okay game. Not great. I enjoyed it. Looking forward for what's coming in the future.
The game is overall well-done but little problems keep me from loving it. * Camera: I find myself trying to zoom in/out and end up swinging the angle of the camera all around. I appreciate the dramatic in-engine cutscenes that swing the camera all around but when I'm playing my turns I'd honestly be happy with just a boring 2d overhead view so I don't have to fiddle with the multi-touch camera so much. Possible solutions: Maybe an option to lock the camera angle? Or just a "play my turns in 2D" setting. Maybe I'm the only nerd with this problem. * Looting/inventory management: as people have said above, pretty annoying and drags down the game a lot without adding any fun that I can see. I understand it builds tension during a fight but if you're not in a fight at this should be streamlined a lot. I should be able to easily get the pistol ammo to the guy with the pistol without going through multiple turns of fooling with moving guys around out of the way etc., just slows down getting back to the fun. Possible solutions: not sure how it would work in the UI but it would be great to be able to get straight to the "trade stuff between guys" screen from the "looting a corpse" screen. Maybe when the loot screen opens outside a fight you could switch characters without closing it? Keep up the good work guys.
Top quality game. Can't stop playing it but I am now really stuck. SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT The prison section where the scientist injects himself to becomA a super zombie. I have full health but no health packs. I cannot get his health below half before he spits his poison all over my characters . Am I missing something? I really don't want to restart Grateful for any help given.
Spoiler below - dont read if you dont want to know Spoiler There is actually a choice here. In the fight before the zombie scientist you can either go straight towards him and trigger the "open all cells" animation. In that situation you will be surrounded by enemies and have a real tough+challenging fight. This will require you to spend all grenades and go low on health. The alternative - non obvious solution - is to not go straight towards him. But go "left" and open the cells manually all the way around. Killing each zombie in a cell on its own. That conserves your grenades and you will face the zombie scientist with almost full health Hope that helps As said earlier - one of my personal favorite parts of the game. ----- Edit: Remember that you can load checkpoints from the menu when you click the campaign button and select the first campaign!!! Dont have to restart anything and you can go back and selectively replay parts of the game /Thomas
Thomas Lund . A big thanks. Didn't know you could do that section that way. I used everything up when I got swamped by zombies. I'll jump back a checkpoint and conserve grenade and health.
This is probably one of the most difficult sections in the game. I remember while tweaking the boss it frustrated the hell out of me (since the save system was currently disabled, every time I died I had to play the whole level again ) In either case, it's also one of the nicest parts, tactically, in the game; I play it a 3rd way usually... Spoiler First I have one guy run up to get the doors open and release all the zombies, then I fall back to where I came from and use the doorway as a "funnel". Also, have to make sure to get the fatties quick, they're dangerous. The boss itself isn't that difficult. Spoiler There's two ways to do it I think. Either spread out so the poison only hits one of you at a time. Or get in close and let him hit you close range instead.
Woo nice trick I regret not have think of it. That said I got a huge luck in this fights with two soldiers close to death and that was quite before end. But I end with zero health pack after this fight. In fact I got such luck that I believed that game cheat in this fight to try avoid make me lost.
