Damn this was hard and know I'll probably end up regretting something but here goes my noms in no particular order: Incoboto Mini Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin Asphalt 7 Blood Roofs Polara Raymond Jungle Run Orc: Vengeance (last update sealed the deal on this one) Kingdom Rush Fantasy Chronicle Autumn Dynasty BTW, there's probably at least a dozen others I feel bad for not making the final cut including Punch Quest, Super Hexagon, Mini Dash, Mutant Mudds, Swordigo, Nihilumbra, Dariusburst SP, Groove Coaster Zero (although it probably wouldn't count as a re-release), Dynamite Jack, Gene Effect, Dream of Pixels, Mikey Shorts....I know I could keep going. TONS of good releases this year and a lot of smaller indie games that really took it to the big boys as far as quality goes.
In no specific order: Need For Speed Most Wanted Rayman Jungle Run Anomaly Korea Modern Combat 4 Bastion Letterpress Ravensword Shadowlands (not a huge fan of the genre but the dev support sold me)
Mikey Shorts and Super Ox Wars have given me the most joy in 2012. And how could i forget Stickman Epic and Don't Look Back. Plus loads of the above and below but that's my top 4.
Here are my nominations in no particular order. It's not my fault 4 of these are SE games, just that i enjoyed them most during the year. Oh, and having 5 runners only was very difficult to manage. Cytus may be the odd one and may be surprising, but damn did i enjoy the game over the year and was never deleted. TWEWY Chaos Rings 2 Final Fantasy 4 Demon's Score Cytus Rayman Jungle Run Polara Blood Roofs TheEndApp Punch Quest Painful cuts (have to add in text because i still cant believe i have to cut them off the final list) : Infinite Warrior - Most painful cut due to the sheer enjoyment i get from the game. The devs are one of the best as well. Unfortunately, i cant really have a game this simple to be on the top ten. Still one of the best for me. Invader Hunter - One of my alltime iOS favorites. Dunno why but i just kinda forgot it. It's never deleted though. ARC Squadron - Do i have to explain this? Ravensword 2 - Great game overall, but so far doesnt get too much playtime from me because of FF4 and Elements Defender, so i dont really want to nominate a game in which i only played for a little over an hour. Anomaly Korea - Definitely fantastic sequel, but AWE had it's great moment in iOS history, and AK is just more of the same to me. Bastion - Definitly the best Diablo-esque game on the appstore... minus the LOOT. Lili - Probably the weakest among this honorable mentions list. I never liked the theme of the game, but how i spent too much time completing it still baffles me. Horn - One of the best releases this year, but didnt make the final cut for me. Agent Dash - Sigh... I still wish this I could have an 11th. One Epic Knight - ...and 12th. The Walking Dead - If you dont know why this game is GotY material, even if it didnt make my final cut, you dont deserve to be called an iOS gamer.
My nominations to GOTY 2012: (no order of preference implied) Hunters 2 Autumn Dynasty The Walking Dead Waking Mars Summoner Wars Super Hexagon Bastion Punch Quest Modern Combat 4 Battle of the Bulge I have more MUST-HAVE games in my signature.
My nominations: Street Fighter X Tekken: OK, it isn't perfect, it only has 12 characters, its graphics aren't that cool, matchmaking has some problems and I hate its coin system, but I still love it. Chaos Rings 2: RPG masterpiece for iOS. Great story, gameplay, etc. It's a must, and I love it. Drakerider: maybe its gameplay is a bit boring once you level up a lot, but the game is still awesome. Damn, it's almost perfect! Swordigo: its only con is that we still don't have Swordigo 2. I need Swordigo 2. Punch Quest: FTP or premium, it's cool. Very cool. Agh, wait, I need to punch some things before writing the next nomination... Done. Ravensword Shadowlands: I didn't finish it yet, I know, but I already think that it deserves to be in the poll. GTA Vice City: I need an ifunbox-like program that works with iOS 6 to see if I could install some cool mods. Whatever, GOTY material here. Waking Mars: different endings with interesting story and gameplay. Really cool game with great atmosphere! ARC Squadron: I loved Star Fox 64, so I waited for a game like this since the day I got my old iPod Touch 2, and I don't regret the waiting. Max Payne Mobile: what? Outdated graphics? WHO CARES!!!! Modern Combat 4: the most difficult nomination for me. I'm between the love and the hate with this game. Great graphics, gameplay (well, controls are from MC3) and content, but its balance is stupid. I'm getting kicked in the ass by people with waaaay better guns and experience in the game while playing "ranked" battles. That's not fair!
In order: Bastion Hero Academy Modern Combat 4 Mikey Shorts Fieldrunners 2 Swordigo Minigore 2 Autumn Dynasty Super Crate Box (hard to believe this was a 2012 release, it's been almost a year.) Ravensword: Shadowlands
I am not a platform gamer. But Beavertap Games' Mikey Shorts almost converted me to the genre. What a brilliant app. If there were a Cat Physics sequel this year my winner would be an easy choice. But there was none so Mikey Shorts is my nomination of the year.
Rayman Jungle Run has my top spot. I honestly think it's the... 2nd best game on the AppStore, bar Superbrothers: Sword&Sworcery. Swordigo and Mikey Shorts were pretty solid titles as well, though. I'll throw Bastion in too for being awesome, but I think that the TouchArcade GOTY should be an iOS original.
