Thats quite a weird rule, especially since many games werent even released a month ago and because of that many people didnt join TA before. Last I checked, everyone can be a TA member, its not like this is a veterans only poll. Sure you can delete votes, but the poll wont show what TA members favorite game actually is. Whats wrong with developers bringing outside people on TA to vote? I never saw such a rule in a public poll... If a guy cares about the game that much and follows the developer, he will at least make a TA account and vote for the game. Whats the reason for deleting his vote? Edit: Just saw what Eli posted and I have to agree with him.
Just so you all know, the "unedited" poll would have had Ravensword 2 winning with 47 votes, Bastion in second place with 41 and The Walking Dead in third with 39. It's up to you to choose which set of results is "official", but yeah...the rules should be set in stone and made very clear next year.
Well is if out of the question to delete this thread and have an entirely new GotY pick with the same nominees? Then lay out some official rules: A) You must have at least 100 posts Or B) You must've been a member for at least 2 weeks I think that's reasonable. Probably my last 5 posts on here have been mostly jokes and/or disgust at TWD's lack of first place.
Unedited, Ravensword wins. Edited, Bastion wins. Both are fantastic games that deserve a mention. The problem is that this poll is still relatively new. The first year this was made, every thing was simple because of how closed this forum was back then. However last year, a lot of outside, newer members changed the flow a bit. This year I made the voters shown so that it could be clean and more accurate as to what game the community likes the most. So as I've said, unedited or edited, the top voted games all deserve mention.
I agree, each year there seems to be some problem with the game of the year forum polling. It's fun but often there's something that casts doubt on the outcome. With respect to Crex's efforts it may be a mistake to depend on only one community member to organize things for this reason. Also it's unfair to place him in a situation of being a focus for blame when things go wrong. Long story short there is no definitive way of selecting one "ultimate" iOS game each year; it's all in good fun and I regret to see it coming down to legalities/politics. Edit: Maybe in the future it'd be worth considering holding voting on sub-genres instead of all inclusive.
While maybe the rules could've been made clearer, I definately think they need to be there. What would stop a big dev like Gameloft from having a hundred of their workers come and vote? Meanwhile a deserving indie gets shafted.
To me it sound you're treating this like a joke. How can you have two different winners? Also, personally, you should have removed "ineligible" votes on an as is basis, not wait till the very last minute.
This is what I've been trying to prevent. I'm not against newer members joining and voting, that's perfectly fine. Some of these members however, are made by people who probably haven't even visited TouchArcade before. I apologize for not making the rules as clear as they should have been, and to anyone who thinks I did the wrong thing. I'm just attempting to benefit our community of actual iOS gamers.
Intervention? He's the boss he can say whatever he wants its just no one likes you cause your a jack ass
I think none should be considered a winner. Just say that TA members' top 2 apps of 2012 are Ravensword 2 and Bastion.
Personally,I didn't care for it as much as everyone else, but if that's done, TWD should be listed as well... Top 3 apps. =oP
Yep - top 3 sounds cool. I actually like the polls and rules as I presume both Crex and Echoseven (for GoTW) do all this off of their own backs. I just like to see what certain persons like as I know pretty much if they like a game there's a good chance I'm going to like it. I've not pickena winner in a GoTW poll since Mikey Shorts and it didn't make the cut for GoTW. I just see it as good fun and now I'll spend some time with all of the top 3 in the coming year.
