iPhone 5 or iPad 4? On my iPad 3 the game was performing roughly as well as the console versions, on my iPad 4 the thing had zero framerate drops and was running as well as it does on PC. Frankly I find your statement hard to believe, as the wide impressions on these forums from even A5 devices was favorable and perfectly playable.
It seems not that many like FPS on this forum Or MC4 is not for every FPS fan. To me it was the best MC so fart
I started with my iPhone 4S and the first episode really killed my desire to buy the next one because of all the framerate drops. So I tried it on my friends iPhone 5 and it was pretty much the same story. I could have just had a bad experience but I don't plan on spending any more money for the iOS version of the game (which sucks because I have completely switched to iOS gaming the past year.)
Only thing I can think of is your friend's i5 had some other apps open in multitasking. Shame you had a bad experience with it; the game truly is stellar when it's running well. Telltale is notorious for poorly optimizing their games, all the console versions have terrible framerate issues and every app of theirs I've tried has had issues on my iPad 3, even with the iPad 4 there are some framerate issues with Jurassic Park. There is always the old standby of clearing multitasking and doing a hard reboot before launching games like TWD.
No, it isn't "identical", and this is fact, not opinion. A brief handful of examples comparing the iOS version played on a 4th-gen iPad to the PC version: Gameplay: One of the core differences is that the iOS version of the game uses the "normal" (easy) mode from the other versions, which leaves both the hotspot and dialogue hints permanently on-screen, and doesn't provide the option of the "hard" (normal) mode the PC version has. This is actually not a minor issue for those who don't want to have their hands held every step of the way. Graphical: The title screen in the PC version has long swaying grass in the foreground over the image of the farmhouse; this isn't present in the iOS version. Graphical: During the driving sequence in the opening of episode one, the PC version of the game has many trees clustered along the sides of the highway; these are almost all missing in the iOS version, making the environment look very flat and empty. Graphical: When Lee wakes up after the crash in the PC version, his vision is unfocused, and you can only see a blurry, unidentified humanoid figure standing up where the car went over the embankment before Lee blacks out again; in the iOS version, this post-processing effect isn't present, and the zombie is sharply defined and obvious, defeating the purpose of this scene. Graphical: When Lee gets out of the car, there's a shot from below, looking up at the sky above him, which in the PC version reveals a hazy yellow afternoon sky; in the iOS version, the sky is a simple flat gray plane. Gameplay: Another non-trivial change. For the sections where Lee moves to the car window, shuffles around the side of the car, and has to scramble backwards away from the advancing zombie police officer, the PC version has you do this manually; the iOS version on the other hand does all this for you automatically, reducing the immersion and tension of the scenes. This isn't the only place where the iOS version takes control of the player, and it's a pretty pointless and irritating design decision. Now, you can certainly shift the goalposts to state these things just don't bother you, but the fact is that you were wrong in your claim, and the iOS version is not only not "identical" to the other versions, it is literally lacking in comparison. It is demonstrably graphically inferior, with models and effects cut from the game (likely so that the iOS version can maintain competitive performance with the other versions), and includes unnecessary "dumbing down" of the gameplay elements. No amount of bluff and bluster will change this.
Well, seeing as someone disliked my previous post, I shall keep this one succinct and to my ultimate point: Vote for The Walking Dead people!! Damnation and hellfire rain upon thee if you cast a ballot for any other game!
Hey...I voted for Waking Mars. Haven't bought MC4, doubt I will; I only now (thanks to my iPad Bitty) have room to finally try the "big games" (Walking Dead, Vice City, etc.) but haven't started yet; Swordigo...I dunno, maybe I didn't give it enough time. Great...now I forgot what I'm forgetting. Also, Vice City is a port of a port of a port of a port (PC, PS2, PSP, XBOX...etc.) and the Walking Dead is multiplatform. To be honest, the games I think I actually had the most fun with this year have been Aaaaaahhh: Force=MassXVelocity (I'm sure I got that name wrong), which is also a port (and might have come out in 2011) and Sky Gnomes. My new iPad will be much better suited to long gameplay sessions. Haven't gotten around to Ravensword yet; just bought it yesterday...and I have a LOT of large games/ipad only games which I've never been able to play. The Bard's Tale...I've had it since release and just now installed it. Anyway, if ports count, I think Battle Academy should get an honorable mention. AFAIK, that was really the first deep, professional quality PC wargame (sorry Battle of Westnoth, Uniwar, et. al.) to be ported with no real loss of...anything. Crossplatform multiplayer is there, the ability to import custom maps, etc. And Slitherine/Matrix/BBC stood there ground and charged 20 bucks for it which, I recall, left many people agast. Nevermind the PC copy was 50 bucks.
As far as game that I will log the most hours with and have the most fun is modern combat 4 and that's my vote, but I can assure you bastion is right there and deff my other game if the year.
It's a sad day when Ravensword Shadowlands is ranking higher than Rayman Jungle Run. The Walking Dead and Bastion I can kinda understand, but...really people? Oh well, that's their choice...
TBH I haven't personally played it. But I get the impression that it has unbelievable scale and sounds great on paper, but is executed very poorly with TONS of bugs, and overall comes off very generic (see the AppSpy review for what I find to be the only honest review of it). Nonethess it lacks the personality and polish of Rayman JR. Rayman JR is the first time I've ever played a game that worked so well on a touch device while giving you the same amount of fun you'd find on a console game. Not that anyone's going to actually find my opinions credible since I haven't played Ravensword Shadowlands for myself
Different people, different tastes. I didn't play 10000000. I played Bastion but I didn't like it. I deleted it after the first level. I love GTA VC, but I wouldn't choose it as my GOTY. I play MC4, but meh... Too unbalanced for me. I always have a strange relationship with those online FPS where proper perks/weapons/etc > skill. I wish every online FPS could be like CS or Metroid Prime Hunters where skill is the key, but whatever. Punch Quest is really cool, but I didn't like it that much. I love Ravensword Shadowlands too, but it's too short and not so open-world. I didn't like Rayman Jungle Run. Swordigo? **** YEEEEEAAAAH!!!! Best iOS platformer ever (sorry Crazy Hedgy). There's nothing wrong with that game. Waking Mars was going to be my vote, but at last I chose Swordigo. I loved its atmosphere. It was... Damn, it was amazing! Walking Dead... I only played the first episode and it was great, but I didn't play the other episodes.
