I loved both both Bad Hotel and Puzzle Craft this week. Bad Hotel is unique, innovative and really cool. With some tweaks it will be something really special. Unfortunately, controlling the placement of the tower blocks is flawed and there are some large difficulty spikes. Puzzle Craft looks like a freemium game at first glanced but in reality is a perfectly balanced town building and resource management game with real depth of strategy using a very well implemented matching game. I highly recommend both games, but my vote goes to Puzzle Craft because I was able to get much more play time (with less frustration) out of it then Bad Hotel.
Have to choose puzzle craft because of the games mechanism and I get my dollar worth more than other games.
I just want you to remind that you can NOT vote for your own game... *cough* dan@chillingo... *cough* puzzle craft *cough*
Kinda agree that publishers, too, shouldn't be allowed to vote for their game. And in this case, with it so close between Horn and Puzzle Craft, it may make a difference. I'm sitting out this week since I only got two releases - Random Heroes and Fish Hooks - both are decent games, but probably not great in comparison to the other releases this week. Can't play Horn and PC looks good, but really am not a fan of kingdom building games so not sure how much I'd like that part of it.
This is a good race between Horn and Puzzle Craft. For those who are put off of trying PC by the "kingdom building" aspect, think of it as more of a resource management and strategy game.
I guess it's kind of the same thing for resource management. I never could get into any of the Kairosoft games or other management/sim type games so not sure I'd like this any more. Got Game Dev Story, which I'm sure is considered to be one of the best iOS games around here and I just didn't enjoy it. Still, I might give Puzzle Craft a try since it is only a buck.
Saying Puzzle Craft has resource management akin to Kairosoft is wrong. There's no simulation part, at all. You play the match 3, which gives you stuff. You then use that stuff to make buildings that make it easier to get stuff. It's a lot more like 10 mil than a town builder, and I didn't hear anyone complain about the base building there. Basically, you go to farm - the match 3 - during which you collect grain, wood and chickens. After that is finished, you get the resources you collected and can use them as currency. For example - you can hire a worker that will reduce the amount of wood tiles you need to make a wood pile from 9 to 8, and so on. If the game looks even remotely interesting to you, you're doing yourself a great disservice by not playing it. Hell, I've spent the last three days playing it non-stop.
Thanks. You probably pushed me over the edge. Guess I just looked more at the description and even the review quotes mentioning it being a mash up with kingdom building so I wasn't interested in it at that point. ...and I do like 10000000 so sounds like I need to take the dive on PC.
