I might have to buy Gridrunners... The video really didn't give me an idea of the game, what do you do in the game?
To me, its a modern take on centipede (well, when you play in with the idevice in vertical mode). If you flip your idevice horizontally, there's 2 more retro versions of this game. You can think of this as a shmup with 50 levels, with each level introducing a new type enemy. There's various temporary weapon power ups that stack. One strategy is to chain picking up of weapon power ups to stack the power and keep the weapon effects longer. The game gets frantic and is a blast to play. And its one of the Llamasoft/Minter game that's not totally "weird". This is my 1st Llamasoft game, and by the end of the weekend, I already picked up GoatUp and Minotron 2112 and I love them both. I'll pick up the last 3 later so I won't be swamped with his games all at once.
I'm guessing most who wanted FFT cared when iphone version came out, now just bitter that ipad version took so long, that coupled with the fact that most TA voters love retro games = no win for FFT
Hmm...I'm surprised Lume isn't doing better! Heck, it even got 4.5 stars from TA which I was not expecting. I didn't think they'd like it as much as I do. Lume FTW!
FFT is an iPad only release, so it has a minority pool of potential voters to begin with. It's also questionable whether a second release of the same game should be eligible IMO. I am very happy I finally got FFT, but the touch controls are quite unwieldy, and it seems like a less refined port than other SE games I've played. Gridrunner is pretty amazing though an admittedly simpler affair, and it does absolutely everything right. I was certain the controls were terrible and the UI was not going to be pleasant to use when I first played, but the game quickly slapped me in the face and told me I was wrong. It still gets better every time I play. Anyway, arcade games to rpg/strategy is apples to oranges, but all the above is why I voted Gridrunner.
If I could have a do-over, I think I'd now vote for Gridrunner rather than ZiGGURAT. ZiGGURAT *is* great, but Gridrunner is getting more play - it's even better. In any case I don't think Gridrunner needs my help, LOL. Plus I wish ZiGGURAT were in 2nd, so I guess it's good I voted for it.
Wha what? What makes you think there's fake accounts voting for Gridrunner? Any in particular that are fake?
Take a look who and when some of those Votes where actually done. A simple Recheck through a Mod should pretty much clear things in less then a a few Minutes out. I have seen much Bullshit in the last few Years on the Forum but this does top everything as far as I can tell.
I'm not sure how to tell when they put in their votes, but yes I see some 0 post accounts, which could be fake. Then again they might be lurkers who just wanted to vote because they love the game. I don't really know. Probably I'm being naive. LOL. In any case, probably the poll should require some minimum number of posts before allowing a vote. Maybe that can only be done after the fact by a mod. I don't know. In any case I vote for removing all the 0 post votes.
This is a pretty sleezy. I didn't check individual accounts, but there's definately more than a few user ids that I don't recognize being a somewhat regular around here. It's a freaking GOTW vote. And it's generally for fun, right? I mean people like what they like and a 100 or so people that vote every week isn't going to be taken as the gospel on what game deserves it. Seriously, not sure why someone (or some group) has to go through all the trouble to "rig" this kind of poll.
You might be right and overall it really doesn`t matter at the End. I was just pissed that it did look like ten Accounts where created at the same Time Window and those had voted and since then none had again visited the Forum...
Yep, if they are fake (and I didn't notice that they were created around the same time, so probably they are fake if that's the case), that is pretty damn pathetic.
It was mentioned on Llamasoft's forum about this contest for this game and later on, on his twitter. But after taking out the new accounts opened right after the contest started, there's still a lot of votes for Gridrunners..and a enough of "non-regular" posters who registered a while back and just voted for this game. If you look at Gridrunners thread, you'll notice enough non-regulars who probably just love Llamasoft's games show up and chime in. Plus, the GOTW is for everyone, not just the "regulars".. Either way, regardless of who "wins", Gridrunners is one of the most fun games in a while for me.
Ah, good point about twitter. I saw that tweet of his too about the contest, so if they line up with that time, then probably these people are legitimate individuals, but not active on touch arcade, at least not yet - they signed up as a result of that tweet. Which should still probably be filtered out just to be sure. But, yeah, the game is awesome and there are enough non-zero-post-count people in that list to have it ahead, at least at the moment. But if a mod can pull the 0 post votes out anyway, that would be better IMHO.
