Yeah, check out the weapon effect list. The steal effect takes a random card from the enemy each turn you make a hand that activates it. The first weapon with the steal effect is available for 2,800 gold or so after you beat zone 13. It's called envenomed scythe or something like that. It only steals cards on three of a kind hands, but it's still pretty cool. It also has the poison effect.
Someone brought up the star ranking system - sort of strange that you would need to re-visit beginning areas after becoming much more powerful in order to get 3 stars which at this point don't seem to count for anything other than having the map show all the stars one has collected. Moving back to these areas will amount to possibly 1 or 2 hit kills for many of the monsters. Some places where you are limited to only playing low hit hands (pairs, 2 pairs, 3 of a kind) don't have much challenge as the health limit keeps going up (assuming one is spending some gold on increasing the health). It seems to me that the stars should be doable with either the weapons that one has with them, or are available within a couple areas. This is not a game that backtracking seems appropriate (unless the grinding aspect is considered a necessary part of the game and then backtracking is necessary just to prevent boredom from setting in). Sigh.... I so wish the old ones had some updated graphics.
Is anyone else having difficulty logging onto facebook? I press login, and then it opens safari with facebook. I've already authorized it, so I press Ok, and then it goes back to the game where I'm still not connected. I've done this over 20 times, but it still does not work. I am using an iPod touch 5th gen
I know I'm going to sound like the devil's advocate here. I have not played the previous games to any extent (due to they were iPhone only) but I have been really playing this one. And I have read and re-read all the comments from people who know this game much better than me. However, I will admit that I purchased the energy unlock and it has made all the difference in my game experience. For one thing, I was really stuck on zone 6. But then I went back and tested some strategies on a prior level and was able to beat zone 6 (I still haven't killed all the monsters but oh well, in time). Because I bought the energy unlock, I could play around to my hearts content and do some things differently without waiting around. So I finally won the Auric Duelist and am looking forward to trying it out. I also bought more Health Chips and that has made a difference as well. So right now I do believe I can progress through the game without any consumable IAPÂ…but I don't know if I will be able to say that after I pass level 13 (and I will, I am amassing gold at a steady rate.)
While both are good, S&P 1 is really a venture into a new game and it shows. S&P 2 is much bigger, the gameplay much improved. There is really no point in having both of them, and 2 is a much better experience. If you love 2, then you can get 1 (there is no story and no point to play 1 before 2) to be more a completionist than anything else.
I'd actually say that if you're liking the gameplay in S&PA, you might want to get 1 before 2 because the latter is too much better. It's a little harder to go back to 1 afterward, but 1 has quite a bit of content and it's worth playing. (That's if you plan to get both. If your budget only fits one, get S&P2.)
Ok. I have given this new version some time and I have to admit, I hate it. I REALLY wanted to like it and I sludged past all the initial cringing at the pop ups and double currency stuff. Impressions (and to be fair, Sword and Poker was one of my favorite all time iPhone games): Style: Despite having a larger company producing it, this version FEELS cheaper. The music is obnoxious (it can be turned off) and the art style reminds me of ANY of the freemium fantasy games. Despite having retina graphics, it just doesn't compare. Gameplay: Again, this is a "feel" thing. When you pull off a big attack and there's this wimpy little slash and some coins that fall from the monster, it just doesn't carry the same weight as the original. It's simply not as satisfying to kill the bad guys...which is the hook of this game. Internet integration: Sword and poker is a great game to have when you're taking a dump, in a line, on a break from work, etc. I appreciate a game that loads quick and let's me play. With the Facebook integration, I have to wait for the game to connect, wait for some pop up that nets a daily reward which takes away from an actual feeling of game progress(yay! I logged in!), and then I have to look at my stupid Facebook photo of a party in Rio. -_- I simply do not want to see myself sliding around as a tile in a shit offensive bastardization of a still brilliant game. 2/5 stars for at least acknowledging a great game but also one big middle finger for _____ing an iPhone classic in the ______. Konami, make more good Castlevanias. Stay away from this in the future. Terrible job here guys.
The moment I realized they put the best spells behind a gem paywall, I stopped playing. Back to the original for me.
I think that was the final nail in the coffin for me, too. I loved the originals, and really tried to like this one, but I can't. The whole thing just feels too pay-to-win now, and while the updated graphics are shiny and pretty, they are generic and uninspired. The soul of the original game just isn't there, imho. I appreciate Konami giving a great indie title a big-studio facelift, but I'm not feeling it.
Many of us will gladly consider buying the game or at least paying for unlimited power if the gem nonsense is nonexistent.
Just paid the 5 bucks for unlimited energy. Insta-regret doing that, the soul of the originals is long gone here. I appreciate the big-studio revamp, but this just isn't good enough.
I'm wondering if they care enough to listen since Eli (?) said that they listened to him when he saw them in the past about being more gamer friendly with their game. So that means this game was a lot worse before? Anyhow, I doubt they'll release another version for us but maybe the low ratings on the appstore will help.
Yup, it's a memory issue. They really should have made it so the game connects to Facebook using iOS built-in functionality. Just one of the many problems with this game. Basically, the game is optimized horribly. What it's doing is opening the Facebook app or Safari if you don't have it installed. This usually force closes S&P (on lower end devices... I'm also using an iPod Touch 5G) forcing it to restart when Facebook tries to reopen the app to send it the info it needs. So the stupid game asks for the information again, opens FB, closes itself, etc. over and over again. I closed every single app running and it was still doing it. Had to reboot before it finally was able to complete. And the game wasn't even worth the hassle which irritated me more.
In fairness, the enemy health doesn't increase so quickly as in the other games. At least it's still manageable to knock out enemies without having to do a lot of damage, and without relying on the paid skills. The day 5 bonus is well, disappointing. In the chest are 5 cards. After I picked a card I got a spell plus 250 coins. Meh. I didn't get to see what all the cards were after they were turned up, and I'd be extra disappointed if it was all spells, but it seemed that way.
This game takes ages to load or resume and crashes and becomes unresponsive when doing so on my iphone 4. Much to my surprise, it's pretty much the same deal on my current gen ipad. It also only likes being used on one device at a time. Kind of kills it for me as a quick pick up and play game. Sounds like the iap ruined it for you guys anyway so I guess I'd have hit that point as well.
Don't be fooled by the Unlimited Energy IAP. If you pay for it this will still be a freemium game and you will still hit paywalls.
Yup bought the infinite energy and hit the 10k gate. None if my friends will ever play this so gotta farm forever to advance
I stopped playing once I saw that gate was up there, assuming it would be something like that (Where's My Water 2, an excellent game, also had this and it ruined it for me). I'm sorry for those who got there and confirmed what that was... and thanks, I guess? :-\
