Well, all I can say about IAP is that it would not be like the freemium model where you buy mojo or energy or whatever. It's for extra stuff you want like graphical themes, other playable characters etc. No special cheaty powerups or junk like that that would make the winning of the sword unfair. Everything will be balanced appropriately. Heh, Calisto in order to remake Diablo 2, I'd need to be full time *already*. So, I'm sort of caught between a Roc and a Hobgoblin. If I was a bzillionaire, I'd just make awesome games for free all day long. And trust me, that *is* my goal (right before I conquer the galaxy)... but I'm just not there yet. I have to play within the rules of the "system," which means work my butt off until I make enough money somehow in order to go full time, heh. Anyway, I do have other games and even a music app planned and/or in the works, so stay tuned. Mindfield, as far as light spell... yes, that was the point. One problem I personally had with the seams, is that not everybody has great eyesight! So really, it's unfair for those seams to be the only real way to find secret doors. Thus, I evened up the playing field by making the rooms truly secret, making the stuff to be found in them even better, and require the use of magic (or reasoning) to reveal the rooms. And hey, if you were making a dungeon... would your secret rooms be all seamy and obvious? Yeah, I thought not. The first floor of the dungeon is a single map, no other adjacent maps.
Finding the secret rooms is certainly more challenging now, and I can't see the difference either. But to me you shouldn't see the secret passages at all without the Light spell. If you have them like before then they are fairly obvious and aren't really "Secret" at all. Plus, perhaps it's just because I tend to hoard on games like this, the only thing I ever use light spells is when I just know there's a passage near and can't find it. It gives them a strategic advantage. If Madgarden decides to go back to easy mode finding secrets, wouldn't that necessitate lowering the overall drop rate to keep some balance?
Enjoying hero mode now. I enjoy tons of item options. Got stuck with some bum ones though this run. Got a poison wand with no charges and a blank potion that does not appear to be useable. Guess all the locals got all greedy and stuff and wouldn't let me have all the loot. More items are enjoyable but I would throw my vote behind more enemy types. I enjoy coming across new enemy encounters almost more than playing with a new item. So if you are ever trying to decide what else to add I say new monsters. I would have to agree with everyone that it's impossible to visually distinguish a secret door and to detect them you have to use deduction or light spells. Honestly this does not really bother me. I tend to explore pretty thoroughly. I'm sure I have missed a few things but usually I can reason out about where the doors should be.
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the secret doors currently, to be honest. It always feels special now when I find one, where before it was just too much of a given. And hey, why don't I just add more cool secrety things rather than fix something that IMO ain't broken? Rovorcen, poison wand and blank potion? Those shouldn't show up at all... is this version 1.2? Or perhaps an upgraded 1.1 still playing the old dungeon? There are occasionally kinks in the dungeon/item generation. More monsters are definitely coming, and just more everything. And more balancing, to make sure the modes are nice and distinct. I'm also working on some anti-hording ideas. In the original game, there was a "Mage" who would steal all of your spells, and then just disappear! We decided that was just super unfair and removed that behaviour, but now as some have noticed, you can end up with a whole LOT of spells and stuff later in the game. Anyway, you'll have to use your items wisely in updates to come. Or die. Heh. And some items may not work as expected under certain conditions. And just to put a final word in on the IAP stuff... even without purchasing any IAP, I guarantee you that you will *always* have a full Sword of Fargoal experience... nothing will be held back or crippled because you didn't decide to buy something. You might miss out on some cool graphics, or a new play style with a new character, but the game will always be the same at the core and fair across the board otherwise. So don't worry, we wouldn't wanna wreck it for ya, just offer some optional fun extra stuff.
I believe I started this run on version 1.1 and then picked up your bug fix patch last night so yeah I guess a hybrid game. Just got the items tonight I think on level 9 in a brow floor with grey walls area. What I like to call the castle areas where u find the most dwarves and other humanoids. Noooooooooo. Don't take away my hoarding. I need everything.
Confused..... I just resumed my save game and at the top it said this: Welcome Impatience (April 2nd 2010) What?? Also, what does the reflective shield do? I've had it for a while but doesn't seem to reflect anything. Any ideas?
I only just realised that trapped chests also contain items! I thought it was either an item, or a trap... doh
Wow, things just got interesting. I got locked in an area (skull door), was forced to drop from floor 8 to floor 12, somehow managed to survive long enough to level up to level 13, get a black orb (now silver) and a dragon's eye, and I'm currently working my way back up to level 9.
Okay, feeling much better about the DLC now. I don't mind supporting it if it's cool but wholly unnecessary stuff, it's just when devs turn the game into a pay-to-win model or worse, pay-to-play using consumables you have to keep buying. It deflects magical attacks. You probably won't notice it unless you're attacked by a mage from a distance.
Good points. They're secret and with that secret, it makes them special and rewarding when you find one. I wouldn't really see the point of even having them at all if they just popped out at you saying "woohoo adventurer, over here!" Having said that, I have a (were)bear of a time trying to find them even with the light spells! But when I do find one, its satisfying and rewarding! Now if we could all band together and get Madgarden to get some insecticide spray spells for those darn dimension spiders...please?
Just wondering, does getting blessed at a temple occur randomly, or is it something that happens under certain conditions?
after you've sacrificed 2000 gold and are minus some HP. I never get blessed either. Legend mode hates me! Or it could be that I don't last long enough to sacrifice 2000 gold...heh!
The temple keeps track of how much gold you sacrifice. At every 2,000 gold it blesses you, assuming you are wounded. (In one of the next versions it will bless you whether or not you're wounded in order to take advantage of shield restoration and whatever other destructible items Paul adds in.)
Yes, remember how some people (I can't quite remember who) were nagging the crap out of me for the update? Well, this build is named for them. Dude, you know we wouldn't do that. Though hmm... "Gauntlet" was the master when it came to pay-to-play. Maybe we should follow their lead. Hello, my wifely adventuress! Yeah, I might be adding some more wands that could help you out. Every 2000 GP's you get blessed. Gesundheit!
'Kay, I defer to your judgment about slow healing, Paul. But my other question slipped by without a reply. To wit: Since the game keeps track of cumulative gold collected, it might be nice for the player to know this as well. Perhaps on the stats list one sees when you tap on the Continue button? Do you think that would be useful or harmful or neutral? Very happy that in updates you're not going to require Hero to be injured in order to be blessed.
Doffie, the blessing may undergo some changes over time, so it's hard to say. The way I figure it... it's up to the *temple* to decide when you receive a blessing, and what it is... not you. So the 2000GP is really supposed to be a mystery, not some quantified amount that you can rely on strategically.
How are you defining 'normal'? Things are random. Is there something about randomisation that you don't understand?
Calm down buddy, no need for the patronizing tone (that means "talking down to" for the record!). I was simply asking if it was unusual to not find a wand of any kind on the first 6 floors. Simples.
