It does on Hero and Legend modes, but if you die in Squire mode, you will return to the last temple you were at.
This is an odd one, only seems to happen on 3GS, possibly gen3 iPod? I can't reproduce it. :/ No, the focus was bug fixes and optimizations. New content will come in the next update. Ahh yeah, that's definitely a bug on Apple's side, though we are trying our best to work around it. It's their media player, you'd figure the silent mode would uh, silence it... eh?
How do you get blessings at the shrine? I step on them when i am injured, and have the max gold i can carry, but i never seem to get blessed. Blessing repairs shields too right? (an earlier post implied that it did).
The temples 'remember' how much gold you've deposited and, when you hit a certain amount 'banked' (I think it's 2000g), you get a blessing. I have a question: I'm 98% positive that someone said there was a subtle lighting difference on secret doors but I've tried identifying them with Light and then looking to see if I can notice anything but I really can't see any difference. Can anyone share any tips? My eyes are so accustomed to the game that I can almost always notice floor traps now but the secret doors are still eluding me. Still really enjoying the game. I can beat Hero mode every time but I've got a hell of a good start on a Legend character now so I'm crossing my fingers.
However, in the current version, you will not get a blessing if you are not injured, even if you pass the 2,000 threshold, and if you do pass that threshold without being injured you'll have to collect up another 2,000 before the next blessing. Paul said he's changing this behaviour (presumably next update) because of the new stuff that has been and is being added. You and be both. I haven't been able to discern a difference either, but with the light spell the issue becomes rather moot anyway. (Though I don't have unlimited light spells...)
For lighting on the secret doors, the secret "wall" is just more brightly lit than the walls around it. Couple that with some deductive reasoning, and you can usually find some secret doors without using a light spell. But really guys... use the light spell, heh! It's like all of the "oh no I died because he didn't drink my healing potion when I was fighting a vicious minotaur!" or "he heals too slow but I don't want to use my 30 potions of restoration!" comments.
Requests for Next Update Since the game keeps track of cumulative gold collected, it might be nice for the player to know this as well. Perhaps on the stata list one sees when you tap on the Continue button? I am still wishing that healing would occur faster both in temples and when you are standing still waiting to accumulate more HPs. When my potions are in short supply and I feel I must save them for really dangerous foes, I spend too much time waiting to grow strong again and it makes the game session seem very slow and long. Whatcha think?
Wait...potions of restoration are used autoatically, right? I've never actively used one. Healing potions seem to be used automatically sometimes too.
Potions of healing or restoration are used automatically... if you're not ALREADY DEAD. Keep that in mind. And Doffie... if you just healed instantly after fighting foes, well we wouldn't need potions at all. The rate of healing is part of the gameplay, and part of the risk. Use regeneration spells and stand on a temple. There are many ways to heal fast... we're not going to just give everyone full, fast healing for free as they run carelessly rampant in the dungeon. There are many potions and spells to use in a variety of combination to ensure that battles work out in your favour.
Heh, sorry... just that I'm not sure how to solve the problem "realistically." One option would be to allow you to rest on the temple, so... fast-forwarding time while on the temple. But realistically, after soaking up so much damage due to traps and battles, your hero should just die from pain and infection I suppose. So best to head off the damage by using your items to stay safe.
I have one complaint about this game: it's totally ruined other rogue-likes for me It's just so damn gorgeous and the music, the sprites, the level generation is all so slick. Do you have any other games in the pipeline? I need to give you more money ;P quick edit: oh, and I've stared 'til my eyes fall out but I cannot make out the lighter secret walls. I know what you posted a few posts up but I cannot see it. Iknow, I know, the Light spell but, in my experience, those are even rarer than enchant weapon scrolls and I use the ones I have. I just like the idea of a sharp-eyed player being able to spot some of them without the scroll.
They used to be like that; there was a seam around secret walls that you could spot if you were paying attention (more visible when zoomed in), but Paul removed it presumably because it's more challenging and the new light spell behaviour revealed them anyway. Only problems I have with that though is that you kind of lose a bit of the murky dungeon atmosphere when you cast a light spell, and as was already said, they're not incredibly common. Or at least, not common enough for us obsessive explorers who have to find every single secret wall. You know, Paul, a Ring of Perception or something would solve this... just sayin'.
Sorry about ruining other roguelikes, heh... Well I'd like to do some more roguelikes, and lots of other stuff! And if you want to throw money at me, I also made Saucelifter. We'll be adding some IAP items to Fargoal before too long. Hopefully we will be successful enough to make the leap and go full time. Not there yet though. I hear ya's, sheesh. Well I'll think about it. I already feel the character gets too overpowered, so if you're able to find every secret room by seam-hunting, well then it's back to being even more rewarding for the grinders. I'll figure something out! Definitely more magical items and artifacts are on the way, though...
Yikes! I meant much more along the lines of "here's another rogue-like/rpg with similar production values" rather than in-app purchases for a game I already own. Ugh, are you serious? Also, you speak a lot about wanting to go full time. Can I suggest, if that's the case, that you use the Fargoal engine to basically recreate Diablo 2? If you could pull that off (ie., hit the right note of a massive selection of items combined with your amazing dungeon generator) then you could buy an island to build your new mansion on. D2 has been generating interest for 10 years and it's a licence to print money.
Aw, Paul. Say it ain't so, Paul! Say you ain't turning Fargoal into a pay-for-advantage game! Or worse, a Pay-for-Consumables game! Tell me it's going to be okay, that Fargoal will only get better and better and people won't be able to gain advantages if they throw money at you! That the IAPs will only be trophy items! Tell me you haven't sold out to the man, Paul! Tell me you still care! I -- I can change, Paul. I can change! I'll do better! I won't flirt with other Roguelikes! I'll buy you that dress you always wanted! I'll tell you that you look pretty! Please, Paul! Don't break my heart like this! Y'know, if anything, the light spell makes it easier, as long as you have spells available. Or was that the point? Also, I always wondered: Are there ever more areas to be found on the first level of the dungeon? I don't recall finding holes in the walls on the first level of the dungeon before.
