I've come across what I assume is another weird bug, opened my finished game file to see if I could check out my stats and inventory (I don't think you can right?) but instead of showing me my endgame, it started a new game from floor 1 level 1! Not a huge deal seeing as I couldn't really do anything with it except keep it as a trophy anyway Still loving the game though, trying to finish Legend mode now. Managed to get to Floor 7 yesterday but made a silly mistake and got killed by a big fire dragon.
Electric Shaman, that's weird... was it the same dungeon? Or did it just basically generate and start a new game?
I've been trying hard to spot that lighting variation and just cant, well, spot it. The way my current hero is going, a bit of secret door loot could really help out.
Ouch! So, after beating Hero mode in one game, I start Legend mode and can't really do a lot. It seems that pretty much any strength monster can spawn on even level 1. I know you can run from most fights but damn, most of this stuff can one-shot me with ease. There's hard and there's unreasonable. I had a master assassin and a huge spawn of giant centipedes on level two. Even running around trying to get a head start using gold and temples is not working out. I think maybe the creature generation is too random? Any thoughts about toning the creatures down for the first level or two just to get some hp padding or do I just keep re-rolling until I get a 'lucky' first couple? Hmm.
It's handy because, other than crypt levels, this is where you'll most often find those locked metal chests which often contain cooler stuff like enchant spells. (You still find those in ordinary places, but the chance of finding them in those chests is greater.) I tried looking again last night but I just can't seem to find what I'm supposed to be looking for. The coloration appears to be identical. I'm sure there's something I'm supposed to be looking for that I'm missing, but would become obvious once I know what it is. Kind of like a Magic Eye. Oh, wait! Is that it? Is it a sailboat? Lies! I can, and by the sway of Odin's pendulous yambag I will find every one of them! I am awash in lockpicks now too, so I can open any chest now! Well you could hardly be called a legend if you didn't complete it while the odds were so stacked against you even the creatures were embarrassed to to take your puff-pastry ass out. Legend mode requires a great deal of cunning, planning ahead, sneak attacks, and running. Lots and lots of running. As I recall one of the tips given when starting out was to try and avoid fights while you look for chests to open and traps to disarm in order to gather enough experience to level up and have a slightly better fighting chance. Also, engaging creatures by darting in, taking a poke, then running back out I'm told helps -- though you don't get as much experience when you kill them that way. But it's better than, you know, dying. I haven't tried Legend yet (still plowing through Hero) but I plan to after I'm done here.
Yes, I'm just being a big baby! I'm actually going to retract what I said earlier. There's always Hero mode for 'regular' play. I'm glad it's really hard and all good rogue-likes have a heavy random factor in their difficulty so I'll just keep rolling ;P
Heh... Calisto, yeah. There's more likelihood that out-of-depth monsters will appear, but you shouldn't fight everything you see all the time. Also... don't hoard your items. Use shield spell, use invisibility or light, use agility and strength all at once to take those big suckers out. Mindfield, yes an eye-like symbol appears on the wall, glowing. Hard to miss.
Wait a tick...secret doors...those are the ones that pop down like the skull doors do? If so, in that case I had found one or two of them. I guess I was thinking of them as outer walls, like the tunnels. I've played Legend mode some dozen times, probably. I don't think I've gotten beyond floor 2 or 3 yet. I love it.
Finally back in the city after four and a half hours cramped in a back seat. Lots of time to get further in Fargoal though so that's good. Down at level 15 now. Enemies are taking my temple shield down pegs much faster now so I've taken to saving all of my gold up 'til I hit 2K and then hitting the temples to restore the shield. It's working well so far. I've gone quite a few levels without finding any special items, though I did recently find a second Dragon's Eye and a second Lion's Eye, so now I'm immune to fear. Does a second Dragon's Eye do anything like a second Lion's Eye does?
After checking, I'm certain it's the same dungeon, I remember finding a dragon's eye in a vault on the 1st floor and there's exactly the same thing here.
Yea I did, I mean that I'm sure it is the same dungeon because I found the dragon's eye again in a vault in the same place So it didn't rewrite a new game over the completed file, it just seems to have restarted that file from level 1 floor 1
Calisto, there's also orange for pit ropes, and dark blue for treacherous paths (which nobody ever uses I imagine ) Electric Shaman, it's not likely that you got the same dungeon again. It'd have to regenerate from the same random seed it used the first time. Otherwise, all the items you got last time would be gone... you'd never have seen that Dragon's Eye, just an empty pedestal.
They can't really be confused on the map though because tunnels only ever appear on the edges of the maps, so they're easy to spot and therefore differentiate.
