Fargoal: A Love Story Paul, Despite the fact that I've only beat the game once, and that pre-update, I've just dl'ed the HD version, one day before actually having an iPad in my hot little hands. How's that for fandom? And I have to say that one big reason is because of the super-dev's activity and responsiveness on this forum. In "olden" days, when I was a sysop on the Mac Forums of (gasp) Compuserve, a bunch of us were all playing Might & Magic, and I haven't had so much fun with a game forum since. Until now. I hope you have great success with the iPad version as well. So there.
Thanks so much for your support, Doffie. Players like you are really what makes this whole thing so fun... I get a real kick out of people enjoying the heck out of the game. So we will continue to do our best to make Sword of Fargoal the best game in the ENTIRE GALAXY.
That's good to hear, cheers Madgarden. Once again, loving the game...been a busy week and I've put more time into it than any others lately. Actually, considering the time I've spent playing it on the subway, I'd say I've actually put in more than I thought come to think of it...
In the meantime, you can also try disabling the "Max Performance" option (which we've just renamed to "Max Framerate) for a more consistent 30FPS. Should reduce battery usage too.
Ok, I will do that, thanks. By the way, "Max Performance" was my screen name in my previous life working in the adult films industry.
Yup.. it will update the display at 30FPS, so half-speed drawing. Uses a bit less juice, also keeps the framerate more consistant in the case of OS hiccups etc.
Awesome to hear that the update is submitted. Meanwhile I died because I got a little lazy and let myself get too low on hit points subconsciously figuring the restoration potion would kick in -- and I got thoroughly trounced beyond its ability to help. So I started over. Now I'm kicking 9 kinds of ass. I'm getting some incredible luck so far. I'm only on the 4th dungeon floor and have already found a Dragon's Eye, Lion's Paw amulet (sweet), 10 enchant scrolls (sweeter), a few sacks (you can never have enough sacks), and sweetest of all, an awesome Temple Shield. This thing is a freaking life saver and it's damn near indestructible. I found it on dungeon floor 2 and it's only down to 97% condition. Awesome. I've passed up all other shields since. However, I have come up with a dearth of lockpicks. Two silver chests and I broke all 6 picks opening them. Well, opening 1; killed two picks on that and my last 3 on the other without opening it. Damn. Going to have to find more somehow. Or a Wand of Opening, that would be nice. I tell ya though, I'm stuck up north for Easter in the middle of nowhere and this game is proving a sanity-saver. Now if only I could get a proper 3G connection up here. I get one but it's only barely faster than Edge and it makes tethering rather frustrating.
Mindfield, that is a pretty sweet start! Getting Lion's Claw early is definitely awesome. It's my fav amulet. There's more coming though. TheSporkWithin, eye might have an eyedea what they do. Dragon's Eyes let you sense invisible creatures, and Lion's Eye increase attack skill... and if you get two, you are immune to fear. I'll work on a nice way to break down the increases stats-wise in the pause page or HUD in future updates. Lots of space on iPad, so a nice HUD is on the way.
The Lion's Claw is definitely proving its worth. I'm demolishing creatures in about half the time now. That combined with the Temple Shield is a pretty formidable combination; I plow through creatures more quickly, which means they don't get as many pokes at me, and when they do my shield blocks them much of the time, and when the strikes to get through I heal quickly. If I can stay alive long enough (and the shield lasts) I should have a leg up retrieving the sword. I think I've noticed something about the Temple Shield though: It doesn't get restored when you're blessed at a temple, does it? In fact, now that I think about it I don't even recall getting blessed at all since finding that shield. Not that it's really a big deal anymore, but if there are no blessings while you're in possession of the Temple Shield then that would mean that it can eventually be destroyed for good with no possibility of restoration. Though at the rate it's going (still only down to 97%) it seems like it should be able to last a good long time anyway. Really looking forward to what else you've got in store. I'm still finding new items and some of them are fantastic, so more new stuff is only going to make things even better. Awesome.
The temple shield, or any shield, will get restored at the temple. You probably just haven't collected enough gold to get blessed yet.
What's the bless interval then? 10K gold? I must be near that already then. But good to know that it can still be restored. In all likelihood then I could have this shield for the entire game. Awesome.
It's 2K. But yeah, it's a tough shield, so should last you well into the lower levels at least, and longer if you keep up with the blessings. Once we add more armour, we might also add armour enchantment.
iPad Day, Hooray! It's here. iSync therefore iAm. Will report back later on the HD Fargoal. Question: Am I the only woman active in this forum -- does anybody know? Just curious.
Doffie, great! Please do... I won't even get to see the HD version in action for a day or two. As for your other question, well my wife reads this thread... does that count?
