Sorta ran out of HUD space there, seemed like a good solution. ;) We'll probably add an advanced/extended HUD option in an update though.

So I found a macabre shield. It seems that most of the time when it screams, the enemy doesn't care, it appears that it mainly affects humanoids. Problem is, when it does have an effect, it gives me the fear status rather than the enemy. Is this... intended?

Also, is it normal for the game to flicker before a movie plays?

Yeah, I don't think it's a bad solution. I figured it had something to do with floors, but the gold number was throwing me off.

That's the shield that's made of bones, right? I saw a barbarian carrying one, but I couldn't figure out how to get it, as every time I moved in to fight him, I'd get the fear and couldn't fight. If only I'd had a wand or some kind of ranged weapon.

The thing about the screaming bone shield... is... well it's a screaming bone shield! It's not surprising that it would scare you ;)

The scream is just like the Wraiths wail on crypt floors. Every time it goes off there is a chance you will be affected by it.

The flicker isn't supposed to be there but madgarden is aware of the problem and will hopefully have a fix in the next update with other fixes

Yeah... it just didn't seem to have any effect on the enemies, even when it said it did. And it only seemed to affect me when it said that it had worked on an enemy. I was wondering if there was a switch flipped the wrong way in the code.

I think I remember seeing a post stating this is a bug and will be sorted in the next update (which will hit in about 30mins if there is a God!!) :D

Gahhh I got to floor 10 in Hero mode and got killed by a fire ball from a dark something or other, because none of my restoration potions activated for some reason.
Is that because they only active automatically in Squire mode? I was under the impression they were kind of a fail safe potion.

Also a little suggestion, could there be an option to turn off picking up items and them getting assigned to the smart button? Or maybe just a reduction in the time it stays there for, managed to waste some items because I wanted to sneak but forgot the recently picked up item would be on the smart button.

  8. There is a point below 0 hit points at which you're just plain dead and restoration potions won't even help, so if you were extremely low on hit points and you got hit for a significant amount, you're totally dead. Never rely on restoration potions to save you; manually use healing whenever possible, restoration if you really need to be healed a lot and quickly. The auto-restoration is just for when you're maybe not quick enough to access it from your backpack and hopefully didn't get knocked too far below 0.

Once you go past 0 life the restoration potion is always taken BUT there is a point where you go so far into the negatives that you can't come back (the number increases as you level)

You weren't just burned, you were incinerated and a pile of ashes can't drink a potion of restoration ;)

The screaming shield scaring you when you carry it is a bug. It worked just fine, but I made some changes and forgot to test that part again, and broke it. Sorry! Really annoying. Yes, fixed in the update.

The flicker is an ongoing problem... hopefully the update, which will target 3.X OS from now on, will take care of it. Seems to be not much we can do about it.

Electric Shaman, what they said. Also, the item-pickup timer, yeah that's a good point. Will have to ponder that one. There's only so much we can do with 1-button, and we've tried to streamline the experience so you pretty much press the button and it does what you want. Obviously we can't hit that target 100% of the time.

EDIT: BTW, thanks guys for rationalizing the buggy behaviour of the screaming shield. You's da best fans eva! ;) Still wrong though. :p

Hmm... "Screaming shield." That sounds better than "Macabre shield" don't you think? Should I change it?

Alright, good to know. The flickering isn't a huge issue or anything, I just wanted to know if it was a known bug or if something was wrong with my phone. :p

I prefer "macabre shield" for a dungeon crawler, but "screaming shield" for an 80s metal band. :)

Okay, I understand now. But, Andeisha died twice in quick succession (Level 22, Floor 17, then 16 of the dungeon). I returned to the Temple, after the second death, got nothing back. So, here I am without potions, wands, spells --- everything that makes life worth living. What's my best strategy to survive to fight again. Should I go to easier dungeons (slim pickin's since I've already mostly reamed them out) or stay where I am, killing the few remaining baddies on Level 16, or go deeper to an almost certain third death for my squiress (but some chance of picking up some goodies in unexplored areas)? Sitting on temples for hours, with no spells to help me restore health faster is a drag. Advice will be most appreciated.

Grin, I did that, so I have two quests to work on. Just wondering if Andeisha has a chance in hell of making it.

Doffie, all of your stuff is dropped where you were slain... so make your way back to that place to recover it. Also, you can potentially get items from some of the weaker enemies to kit up a bit... shields from dwarves or barbarians, various potions and spells from the others etc.

Consider the recovery of your dropped loot as a sort of mini-quest in itself. :)

Well, see, Paul, I got killed on 17. When I was returned to the game (empty-handed), I was killed again. The second time, I raced up to 16 in fear, and when I went back to 17 I couldn't safely get around enough for that "mini-quest." Think I'll just let myself get killed again or just give up on this hero. At Level 23, I am strong enough to kill a few nasties, but not many. But I'm learning and still having lots of fun. Death holds no fear, right?

You can do that, Doffie, but if I was in the same situation, here's what I'd do: I'd go up a few floors, maybe even as high as 10, and I'd chase down some of the weaklings and take their stuff. Take potions and spells from rogues, elves, etc. and snag a good shield. Take some trips down deeper with some of my new stuff, and see if I can perhaps score a war shield. Keep at it until you're ready to head back to floor 17 and recover your loot.

Did you have any amulets or other artifacts?

Heh, that's exactly what I'm doing (up to 11 now), and there isn't (so far) much to steal, but at least I've got some potions to work with. Kinda boring on the higher levels, but a woman's gotta do....etc.

Thank you. I've not seen a war shield yet, but you've given me some hope. Hope and dread, Paul, that's you.
