If you can walk all the way around it then there is always a way in. If there is no door then try walking into the walls surrounding it. Take a step and swipe directly into the wall. It's also possible that the entrance is far away and is a long narrow tunnel into that room

If you CAN'T walk around it then it may not be attached at all and the only way to get there is through a Hole in the Wall

    good luck!

Here's some more insider info, cuz I feel like sharing:

    - Strength potions multiply your strength, but will start to reduce your skill after a couple chugs. Similarly with Agility, your skill is amped up, but your healing is reduced.
    - Fear reduces battle skill, as does blindness
    - Invisibility reduces the opponent's battle skill (you're harder to hit and avoid). Same goes for invisible monsters vs. you
    - Opponents may be blinded by toxic gas. Anything that affects you can affect them in the same way.
    - I'm not nearly done making these enemies do clever things. ;)

Re. the first one - do you mean skill/health regen. will decrease permanently? And is this something that only happens when you take multiple potions at once? Or does it keep track of what you've taken over time?

Negative effects are not permanent... just for the period that potions' effects are active. And yes, generally one potion is "safe" while taking more than one can have great gains, but usually with side effects.

Still, with the right combination of potions and spells... ;)

Got down to level 8 and then promptly bought it thanks to a dragon. I ran out of teleports and he attacked me so I was toast. Loving it big time but I'm going to hold off starting a new game until the bugfix update comes this week.

Well, I finally went and grabbed the game, so you can go ahead and put it on sale tomorrow. :p

I'm taking it slow, started on Squire difficulty and I'm on the 4th floor, character level 5. What's a good pace to keep for decending? One floor per character level? Also, are there "special" floors, the way there were in NetHack? I remember ending up in some dwarven mines in NetHack a few times, stuff like that.

I'm enjoying the game, though it's really simple compared to NetHack, but I think that's mostly a good thing on this platform. I just miss all of the completely insane equipments and spells you could find in NetHack, but I think I'll be okay. :)

EDIT: Also, is it just me or does attacking from a diagonal confer an advantage in combat?

Hey, glad you're liking it so far. Yeah the interface is as streamlined as we can get it, and we don't have a ton of equipment, but there is stuff, with more stuff to come. ;)

As far as attacking on diagonals... nope, no advantage whatsoever. Fighting is fighting... the actual position doesn't matter, it's all about the relative battle skill, hits, and strengths of the duelists. The animation you see is just a representation of the battle of stats going on underneath.

I've found that completing a level (mapping out all parts of it, including areas accessible through tunnels) keeps me at a good character level as I go down - usually I'm a level or two above the map level.

Nice to hear that you've got long-term plans for supporting it, it really helps to justify the "high" price tag of five whole dollars. One feature that I'm really wishing were in here is some sort of comparison when you find a shield, having to open the menu and check your shield's strength every time is annoying. Also, do the different types of shields offer better protection? If so, is this stat visible anywhere in the game?

I ate at McDonald's for lunch today. Cost me over 8 bucks. :)

Well the text description for the shields tells you what sort of shape it's in. From best to worst:

    Fine, <blank>, worn, damaged, shoddy

Though I'm sure we'll be providing more feedback on various items in the HUD and in other ways as we go, as long as it doesn't undermine the streamlined interface or clutter up the screen and break immersion.

Each shield offers the same amount of (basic) protection... basically, it's another chance for your character to dodge an attack. However, each shield absorbs damage differently. A wooden shield will break more easily than a metal shield, etc. And other special shields do more...

Similarly, I'll be adding helmets in an update or two. ;)

I finally bought this game the other day, and can't stop playing it. It's fantastic. I never played the original too so it's not just nostalgia (although I can totally see how that'd work here).

Hey madgarden I just purchased your game over the weekend and am really enjoying it. Especially appreciate the squire mode to get into game as I'm a rogue-like novice. I almost hope I don't get to the sword as I hate timed events and the escape scares me lol.

I have been playing a bit now and have made it to level 15 but am still having some trouble undertstanding a few things. Strength and agility. I get that the potions increase these stats? But they are not listed on the pause screen directly and I am really not sure what benefit I get from increased strength or agility. I think isaw someone trying to explain this somewhere but after a few days of looking and not finding i hope you or someone can help explain this to me. Feeling a bit foolish just randomly using these potions over and over again :/

Next up is time to suck it up and hero mode.

Strength potions increase your damage but lower your Agility so you get hit less often

Agility potions make you harder to hit. I assume it lowers your damage as well but I can't confirm it.

Of course with the right amount of each you could negate all the bad and... well I'll let everyone figure that out for themselves

Are the strength and agility potions permanent effects or just temporary? I've been too afraid of wasting stuff to experiment much...
