I believe that gems and amulets don't do anything yet. Unless Madgarden got crazy with it and threw in a monetary system while I wasn't looking, that is. Most likely in a future update they will have more of a purpose than just being shiny and pretty.

Heh, I have a real love/hate relationship with the ropes breaking. On one hand, it makes it more realistic and harder to just fly up all the ropes when making your way out of the dungeon with the sword. On the other hand, getting stuck multiple floors down when you aren't even close to ready for it can be a real pain in the arse. But I definitely love it more than I hate it.

One thing to remember is roguelikes are very unforgiving and suddenly dying or being put in really messed up situations is a trademark of the genre. Version 1.0 of Fargoal was lite in these masochistic ways, and this version rectifies that pretty well. And it's STILL not as brutal as most roguelikes. So, I say, enjoy your death to the fullest!

To both of you guys, I believe your inability to retreat from an enemy is because THEY attacked YOU. If they are the ones attacking, then you CANNOT retreat until the battle is over (or they retreat themselves I suppose). If YOU attack THEM, you can run away if you realize you're in over your head. And then they'll probably chase you down anyway. Hopefully this is the cause of your problems, and NOT a bug.

jrsco, I don't quite understand your second question. Are you saying is there a way to see an enemies HP or strength before battle?

Hmm, that's pretty telling then. :) The message shows up OK though, right? You can email them to me at [email protected], thanks!

Gems... what gems? :) As for amulets, yes they do indeed do something. I wouldn't put such a huge red herring into a released update. :)

Please forgive me for asking a very predictable (and annoying question) but, in all seriousness, when do you think you could release a new update to fix the little bugs?

I have had it happen on several fights. Once I attack and see that it isn't just a were-bear or gargoyle but a powerful one, I try to run. Drag every direction and nothing happens. When they attack me however, I can just use the smart button and tap flee when it pops up. I am strictly having the issue when I am the attacker.

What I meant by the second question, is there a way to see what the monster's name is before you attack it. I know I am not going to survive against a veteran or powerful version, but I can kill a regular one. Since running away doesn't seem to work when I attack, knowing what the monster is before attacking would be a lifesaver.

Just sent you 3 screen shots! And yes, the "vault opens" message displays and the vault-door-opening sound effect plays fine. I can move for a few seconds, then crash...

I will look into the first issue. If they are powerful, they can get multiple hits in, but if you attack you should be able to disengage.

To test them out, just run into them and immediately disengage. Don't wait for any strikes to be thrown.

Ah crap, is my foot in my mouth? Did gems go away? I hadn't been able to play the last couple beta versions, and yet to play the officially updated version (damn girlfriends cutting into my gaming ;)).

As for the amulets doing something, well that's just awesome. Can't wait to discover just what that is!

Yup, gems went away for now.

Wobble, we'll submit a bugfix update next week.

I don't know if all amulets work, but the Bugtooth amulet certainly does something. It should kinda be obvious with the name. I don't find it very useful though.

I attacked the troll first. I couldn't tell what it was and I ran into to it... Trolls are VERY unforgiving on Legend.

Don't know if this has been reported yet.....
I just tried going up some stairs and I got the usual animation etc etc but I then found myself elsewhere on the same level (i.e. I HADN'T ascended) completely invisible to me with a message saying something like "You are surrounded by stone" or something. I couldn't then use those stairs to get anywhere to cure the invisibility bug I mentioned before. Basically 2 bugs in one at the same time.
Don't think I'll bother playing this anymore until the bugfix update comes out. It's pretty unplayable for me at the moment I'm afraid.

Yeah, there seem to be some stairs/rope linkage issues. The dungeon generation is pretty complex, so you know, stuff can happen. Working on it.

I have tested it the combat issue. If combat starts, I am unable to run away on powerful / vetran / strong monsters. I don't even get the opportunity to disengage before the hit. Its only on the tougher creatures that I am running into this problem when initiating combat. After swiping in several directions to disengage, the attack turns keep progressing and I hit then they hit etc. Its not the monsters attacking only because they are stronger and get multiple hits. On regular, weak, etc mobs I am not having an issue at all.

That is why I was wondering if stronger creatures prevented you from running.

You don't know how many times I just walked 2 steps after the game started and dead. Or my favorite, walk off the stairs on to a chest and open it - trap dead. I finally said the heck with it unless my stats were at least 12+/12+ on the beginning roll.

Now I am lvl 6 just getting to floor 4 and things have gotten a lot easier to deal with.

Yes they do because they "intercept" your counter attacks due to their skill, and thus get multiple hits. But, you should be able to run in this case because you're on the offensive, and that's not working right. So I will fix this.

Heh... I find it really fun starting with a weak guy, and basically scurrying around floor 1, hoping to find enough gold and weak rats/bats to level up to xplev 2 so I can relax a little. ;)

  17. I must be lucky having found no bugs yet.

Having said that of course, I will now encounter all of them. Simultaneously. With my head stuck in a dwarf.

    Same here.

    I'm on LEGEND, Dungeon 8 with a lvl 9 hero and a +5 sword.

I'm slowly crawling through the dungeon so I don't die.

*crosses his fingers for NO bugs*

I agree about the first part, but how do you prepare yourself for being locked in a room with a drop to 4 floors below and then dropping 3 more floors with no immediate way back? Yes, there are spells to use and such (I did use a Shield spell on level 10), but they only last so long - and since I was level 3, I didn't have much in my inventory. In any case, I'm not necessarily saying it's a bad thing - just making commentary. It definitely adds an extra level of suspense. If it happens a lot, then I might have more of an issue with it - I think I just got particularly unlucky this time.

  20. I'm only going through Hero mode at the moment -- I'd like to ease into Legend by discovering all that's new in an easier setting so maybe I can put them to better use in Legend. Although from what I hear I should invest in a really soft pillow for the platter my ass is going to be repeatedly handed to me on.
