In summary... iPad "enhancements" will be UI-only, to take advantage of the larger screen. All gameplay features will exist in both cases, *always*. Don't worry, we're not dumbtards!
I'd like to comment that one... if anyone could explain what a dumbtard is. But it sounds like a person who isn't able to understand the function of the invisible d-pad.
Now, now. No-one here is that not even me! No question or suggestion is dumb by any means. We LOVE the feedback we get and want to make the game have as many options as possible. Please look for much more to come as the game evolves. Jeff McCord
Meet up at Macworld Expo? Anyone planning to be at Macworld want to meet up and say "hi" there? If so, let me know! Email me at [email protected] I will be there just one day arriving Thursday, February 11th and leaving Friday, February 12th. Hope to see some of you there! Jeff McCord
Haha... no, I would never call you -- or any of our other loving customers -- dumbtards! What I mean is we wouldn't do something like not make the game equally cool for both platforms. iPod/iPhone is a great on-the-go in-your-pocket device... perfect for Fargoal. iPad is a bigger version of that, not as mobile, but allows for some nice UI enhancements. So, we'll make sure that everyone gets the best version for each platform.
hehehe... Dumbtard... may have found the name for my next Fargoal Hero! Wish you hadn't told me about your iPad plans though. You just made that sexy slate a bit sexxxier... My bank account is cursing your name, and the toy-obsessed portion of my brain is erecting a statue in your honor. In other news, I'm back down to level 8 at the moment & really pushing this Hero to try and get to The Sword at a much lower level this time around. Maybe I should've named this one Dumbtard!
Nooooo, I would never, would I? I am a good boy. Just kidding, that is. I think Jeff & Paul dropped exhausted on their keyboards and are sleeping now... since three days. Have patience - give them some time for an epic, worthy update.
Vovin, You are quite right. Many a late night for both of us for the past several weeks! (especially Paul). I am testing right now as we speak! And it is looking and behaving amazingly. We plan to update everyone on the forums tonight or tomorrow with a definative plan for when we will be submitting it to Apple (which will be soon). There are so many new things, it is crazy! There are just a few features that we are finishing up on and we want to get just right. Sincerely, Jeff McCord Sword of Fargoal
But son't shoot away everything right now. Try keeping something for future updates. But I am loving your game so far - so I have big trust in you guys doing the right things for Sword Of Fargoal. Oh, did I mention that I've played the old Fargoal game years and years ago?
Don't worry! There is plenty more in store for future updates. In fact, we were just talking last night: we have material planned for at least three future "Episodes" already (with more to come beyond that too), plus lots of optional in-app customization we will be adding (such-as dungeon "skins" you can purchase as add-ons). Thanks for continuing to play and enjoy the game! Glad you also played the original C64 version way back when! Jeff
Yeah... I was sixeen, back then... I think. Wait.... wow... that's more than 23 years back... heck... Yes, I played the "original" version. I bought that game from my small pocket-money. But it is good to hear that you're planning in-app purchases. The stuff right now and the stuff coming with the update is already more than worth its money!
"Episodes"? "Skins"??? Oh come on now... you Haaaaave to tell us more!!!! ... Not that you have to sell me on any "optional, in-game purchases". Fargoal has already earned a permanent spot on my phone. But those sound too awesome not to hear just a bit more!! If not, maybe a hint as to when we will hear about them.... please?
After this update goes live, then we can start talking about the next one. Though, I'm sure people would like some extra characters/classes to adventure with...
I'm working on "legend" (hard) mode right now, peoples! You will enjoy it. The main thing is that you can't see monsters through walls, and that the dungeon is dark at the edges of your torchlight. Very immersive and atmospheric. Also, we're adding a "squire" (easy) mode, for those who really just want a more casual experience, and the current difficulty and behaviour will be the "hero" (normal) mode.
That's fantastic news! I, not ten minutes ago, ascended my second Hero and was thinking about how nice it would be to have difficulty levels instead of me just coming up with an arbitrary Hero Level to start my ascent. Every new feature you've spoken of sounds terrific. Can't wait!
Congrats Santoron! But yes, you will like the new version... the current version is just way too easy, IMO.
I agree that the difficulty needed tweaking... though in my head that was always part of your update plan. I'm looking forward to failing repeatedly post update . I'll admit that while I was waaaaay overpowered for my first ascent (finished at lvl 41 ), this time around I felt very little trepidation about my journey even though I ended at level 28. Of course, there is something "just right" about Fargoal, and I have faith you'll keep that accessible roguelike vibe going as well. As a long-time fan of Rogue and Nethack, the iPhone iteration of Fargoal has thus far been a bit too "sure thing", but that also hasn't stopped it from being one of my 3 favorite games for the platform, and with the updates announced it's the only one that has the staying power to defend its "Most-Favored-App" status indefinitely. In short, my Fargoal purchase continues to be my best investment in the platform thus far, and I have absolute faith that your plans for the game will do nothing but enhance the experience for us all... Now can we has it please???? I'll be your best friend....
