    I picked this up along with Battle of Wesnoth and I think i'm enjoying this better :) There's a ton of polish that went into this game and the devs did a great job making this feel accessible to people who never grew up with this game!

    Personally I didn't like Trenches all that much, the game is lacking. Go for Sword of Fargoal while its still on sale.

    First the definition:
    Roguelike Games

    Then a suggestion: read the early pages of this thread, it will help you understand how this game plays.

    I would say its one of the most accessible roguelikes, and its a really fun game.

    You need to understand that this game is all about replayability, and you learning how to survive the endless dungeons you will face.

    From an earlier post of mine, be aware of Permadeath, and that is is a GOOD thing:
    ===========================
    Permadeath is an integral part of the gameplay. Each dive into the dungeon you (YOU, the human) learn more and more how to survive. Though you will die, over and over, and sometimes to stupid reasons or the random number generator hating you, still you play again taking what you've learned with you on the next trip, striving to do better.
    ===========================

    If you want a dungeon crawler (for the iPhone) that you can play and replay forever, this and Rogue Touch are your best bets. There are reasons that Rogue (circa 1980) and its descendants are still played even now.

    Just to name a few off the top of my head: Rogue, Moria, Larn, Omega, Sword of Fargoal, Urogue, Hack, Nethack (and lots of variants), Angband, Zangband and a million variants, ADOM, Diablo & Diablo 2 (the developers acknowledged their debt to Rogue in the random levels and items.), Izuna (DS), Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (DS), Mystery Dungeon:Shiren the Warrior (DS) and tons more...

    Update:
    Chronology of Roguelike Games from Wikipedia

    I hope you choose to join us in our love of Roguelike games, I've been playing these since about 1983. That's over 25 years of my personal timeline on these kinds of games. How many modern games will you be playing in 25 years?

    Happy New Year, and Hope to see you in the depths soon!

    Missed the first sales window but got it this time. A simple charming retro game.

    I suggest the devs to stick with this new price point. It just doesn't seem right if both SoF and RavenSword are selling at $4.99.

  11. Completely different games. Such a comparison is irrelevant. The vast majority who have bought think the original price point is more than fair, me among them.

    This game is great, but i was wondering wether you have to manually save or if it's auto save? Also, does anyone have any tips?

    Thanks in advance.

  16. For those who want to save time, it's in "Best retro game reborn" and "Best RPG" categories.

    Just finished this great game. The difficulty level is spot on for me (I've never been able to finish one of the traditional rogue games).

    Got a question - why do the levels go below 20? What's down there? Does it just go on forever?
