wtf mods ive had enough first u cahnge my name too docter porkenheimer then u change it to gurgee von foofoo AND THEN U MAEK IT PORKY VON FOOFOO BUT THIS JUST GOES WAY TO FAR
Does this mean that you have had enough, and you are putting your foot down and no longer coming back here? Reading the last 10 pages of this thread really disgusts me. Some of the people in this community are so piggish it is unfathomable. I personally think that the admins should introduce the ban-hammer. Anyone who says they are boycotting the game because it wasnt released in what they deemed a timely fashion, or because there has been unforeseen delays should have their head caved it. People need to grow up and stop acting like selfish little kids.
Alrighty guys... lots of feedback (pro and con, mostly PRO! You go!) in support of Fargoal 2 and the Fargoalians have caused us to think more about the plans for Fargoal 2. A lot of you have said we should release it as a new app instead of a free update. We're seriously considering this option now. Obviously a free update is really swell, but it may not get us to where we'd like to go with the whole Fargoal brand (aka. business suicide). And more Fargoal is better than no Fargoal, I say. So, the word isn't official yet, but we're seriously contemplating releasing as a new app, a fresh start. Comments on the vicissitudes of such a brash and mighty stroke are welcome. Just don't ask WHEN.
Sounds good, what's a few dollars for a ton of entertainment. I'll make my wife go without coffee for a day, so I don't have to personally sacrifice to get the game.
Well, as I said before, I would totally support that. Fargoal is complete as is (some seem to forget that) and it sounds like what began as an update really is a whole new game - at least more additions and changes than many full sequels. I do think, because of how it has gone, that adding some stuff to Fargoal 1 (maybe as an optional extra or Fargoal 2 preview or something) would be a good idea to basically say, here's some new Fargoal stuff for everyone who waited for an update. But, to be honest, I can't imagine those of us who enjoyed Fargoal would begrudge paying for a new Fargoal. I certainly would pay instantly. I also think Fargoal 2, the full-on sequel rather than update, becomes a bigger talking point and I certainly hope that sites like TouchArcade and others would feature it. I'm all for it.
First off, just wanted to say that I bought this a while ago and finally got around to playing it the last couple of weeks... great game. Although arguably simpler next to a number of the rouguelike competitors out there, it all somehow works in SoF to make for my favorite roguelike on iOS. A sizeable percentage of those who bought the game since you started touting the "always six weeks away" free updgrade to SoF2 (half of all buyers? more?) are going to correctly feel you've gone back on an explicit promise no matter how small the cost of SoF2. How many would overlook the going back on your promise and still buy SoF2 is the sort of number you need to figure out. A brand new app would stand a better chance of getting noticed, and I'm sure there might be technical reasons why packaging the 2.0 update as a stand alone would be preferable for you, but politically it seems sort of short sighted. You've got no guarantee going with a new, stand alone app would necessarily garner more attention and you're guaranteed to have some sort of internet fallout by reneging on what has been one of the top billed selling points for your personal variant of SoF for the better part of a year now. Me? I would feel sleighted by such a choice, but I would still buy the stand alone SoF 2 simply because I'm sure I'd get more good out of it than being bitter and whiny. Still, Sword of Fargoal would be the last time I make a choice about paying money for one of your products based on non-binding promises. Not sure what the best choice is, or if there's something in between: For example, you could issue a 2.0 upgrade to SoF and pull it from sale a week later leaving you having kept your word, allowing those who purchased SoF access to it from the iCloud service, and leaving users with a choice: other than fixing obvious and critical bugs, any further features to SoF2 would only be made to the stand alone SoF 2. That's the closest to a win-win I can picture. Regardless, I'm always pleased to have such dev participation in these forums even if I have to admit if I were ever in a position to make such a choice, Madgarden would be near last on my list potential sofware project leads
C.Hannum, yeah it's not the ideal situation. I just can't trust that I'm going to make my investments back on a free upgrade. I'm just a dude in a dusty basement, hoping that 2.0 will finally put me in the black. On the flipside, I have invested so much of my time, energy, and assets into Fargoal 2.0 (and Fargoal 1.x) that I am willing to break a few eggs and hurt a few feelings. I'm not doing this for free or to make people feel all warm and fuzzy. I really enjoy the fact that there are many fans of my efforts, but that won't (and doesn't) pay the bills. Sad fact. Your final comment is a bit ignorant though. Maybe if I was just a project lead, then sure. But I'm lead EVERYTHING on this damned project. Art lead, sound lead, code lead, design lead, lead forum-poster for cripes sake. As I said before, normally a project like this should have a dozen people on it. I have no regrets regarding the work I've done these past 2 years.
Whichever one means I get my hands on Fargoal 2 sooner I'm all down for that. (Yes I'm willing to pay for Fargoal 2 or the update with IAP)
Thanks Teh_Ninja. Yeah, Fargoal 2 will have IAP, regardless of how it ends up being released. Core experience will be complete, whether you choose to buy IAP or not.
I'm a bit confused, honestly. Is it not your expectation that people who are fans of Fargoal, who would be willing to shell out for F2, are going to want to buy the new IAP classes? Honestly, if it were me, I'd strongly consider simply making an entirely new app, but making it free, which would render this discussion moot. Fargoal is going to generate money from IAP.
I think that is the expectation... but mostly because those of us that really love fargoal (I myself play at least one game a day since it's release) WOULD buy the IAP classes. Since fargoal 2 is also a free upgrade it also means that everyone that supported the original version gets a big thank you. Sounds like a pretty good deal for us gamers
VeganTnT, yeah about that free upgrade... read back a bit more. I'd love to give a big thank you to the users, but I think it will put us under if we do that. It'll be more like a goodbye party. So it's possible Fargoal 2 will be a new, separate app.
I am considering buying this and have a couple of questions. What is the difference between the original SoF and SoF Legends, and which should I get? Are there different character classes that you can choose from?
Legends is the better deal right now, it's universal. SoF is in a transitional state. There will be different character classes in SoF2 once it's ready.
*GASP* You greedy SOB! Fu1star!! Bring me my Painbow!! It's time to smite. But seriously, I've put SO many hours in SoF that I'd happily pay for the sequel.
Oh, you will pay alright. With your HEAD.* *Note: Decapitations removed from Sword of Fargoal to allow for G ratings.
