Getting a bit bored with the top-secret-defcon-one attitude is all, everyone else freely discusses their future plans regarding updates on their titles. All we've got is "out by Spring". Well, it's practically Summer here....

@bluewomble88 ...go play some more Forget-Me-Not in the meantime.
( btw, that's what Madgarden is doing too, he just pretends to code :) )

Been ploaying it a lot I have to say, pretty addictive stuff. It would just be nice to read about some progress such as % complete, ideas not used in this version, IAP info. People like me like to read about that stuff.

I feel ya... I've been waiting for some kind of info on Spirit Hunter: Mineko for like 8 months now. There can never be too much roguelike news.

Sorry... yeah I know I am usually pretty active in here, but I'm just so swamped with all the work for this update. We've got a particularly major deadline looming, after which I will attempt to spill some beans. Here's a bit, anyhow...

The initial 2.0 update won't have all characters available for IAP yet, we will likely release new characters and other IAP items as the weeks progress after launch. It's looking like we'll see the Fighter come standard, and then Ranger, Thief, and Magic User appear in the weeks to follow.

Also, it's looking likely that we will be using a gold system similar to Solomon's Boneyard, where everything is actually unlocked using gold. If you collect gold in a quest or sacrifice at the temple, it counts towards your total. Then there is only really the one IAP... GET EXTRA GOLD. So one IAP purchase of gold will be enough for a typical single unlockable item, such as a character class. And if you play lots anyway, well you'll accumulate much gold and thus get some of those unlocks for free. Much more flexible and simple than a bunch of individual IAP items.

Also, since we won't be able to upgrade the old save games, likely there will be a reward of gold to compensate the player. G0LD R0X0RZ

So do you mean all IAP's are unlockable anyway providing you get enough gold? Have I read that right?

That's the idea! It's just one bad business decision after another on our end. ;) No wonder I'm in the hole...

2.0 sounds very cool. It's hard to say whether this is the right business decision. On one hand, this way makes users happier, which means more of them. The other way (forcing players to pay for the classes/IAPs) might make more money. However, at the same time, you might not earn as many new players that way, and ultimately, more players means more money. Most successful US based microtransaction games avoid the "pay to win" mechanic because US players hate it (not true for Asia though). So you've probably picked the safer route (you just may not see as much money at first, but hopefully you'll make more over time).

But the players love you for it ;) Next you can make a crappy game to rip everybody off and we'll all fall into your trap :D

Yeah it's the sort of thing that we can adjust over time, tweaking prices for items, adding new items, etc. I think there will be enough unlockable content that people will want to buy some IAP to help accelerate their access to it.

MidianGTX heh yeah, that's just it... our players are all really cool and intelligent ;) so we want to do them (and the game) justice by not cheapening it. Hopefully they appreciate that. That is why, in fact, we'll also have a "Sacrifice of Gold" IAP (tip jar!) so people can show their appreciation. Might even facilitate special unlocks..

Are you working on Fargoal 2 as well then? The App Store description still mentions it but you seem to be concentrating more on updates for this one. Or... are Fargoal 2 and Sword of Fargoal 2.0 the same thing?

Dannytime, it's not that people like Madgarden and I don't want to tell you every little detail about our games and updates! It's just that making promises that may or may not be able to be kept can be more upsetting to most people

In the case of Spirit Hunter Mineko, I'm only able to work on programming it in my "spare time" that is not being consumed running my consulting business. That combined with very painfully underestimating the time and expense for artwork and music have made it seem like a dead project but I can assure you it's alive and better than ever!

Could we all be a bit more transparent with our development info? Probably, but I'm not sure that would satisfy most readers. The questions people really want answered like "When can I play Sword of Fargoal 2?" or "When is Spirit Hunter Mineko coming out?" are just not the type of things that have a Date X stamped on them. Madgarden is a perfectionist, and so am I, which means we're likely to continue to obsess over details until things are damn near perfect. I believe that is better than "release early and often" and let your users find the bugs for you. :p

These are exciting times, much like the early days of gaming when small groups or even a single person can create something amazing. I'm glad to be a part of it!

PS- Madgarden, release SoF 2 already! I promise I'll work harder on my games too... WWDC is coming! :D

Madgarden, could you please include an updated icon for retina display with 2.0 if you haven't already done it? I've just now gone back to the game since the retina update and it looks amazing bar that one tiny detail you missed out :)

MidianGTX, Fargoal 2 is Fargoal 2.0 is the next update to Fargoal 1.x for iPhone. It's all the same, dig? And, there's a new icon for this update so you should be all good.

CommanderData, pretty sure we'll have it done by WWDC, though I won't be there.

Hmm at first thought was not so keen on the gold thing thinking back to the option A B C choice about 15 20 pages back. But thinking about it more I guess this really amounts to the same thing as buying the class outright. Rather than payin x for a thief I can just pay x for the gold then buy the thief. Sounds cool because if you play tons you are getting a coupon. As long as you still don't plan on doing that option where we have to pick what our inventory kit is prior to each dungeon run than this sounds great.

Well it looks like we have reached a significant mile marker in the development process. That being blue womble complaining about release date ;) . Now that he has done that Madgarden can go ahead and move to the next phase. All is still right with the world.

Yes, the new "gold" method is really just like IAP without all of the IAP. :) We may also add an IAP item to unlock everything, have to see how it goes.

Oh, I thought this shot was kinda neat, so I'm sharing it:
