    I hope, you are already working on the high resolution thingy ;)
    Or I guess, you can transfer the iPad reso to the iPhone 4?
    Because, I ignored the first gen of iPads, but this baby will be mine in some weeks.

    Is this a memory leak?

    I am finding, not infrequently, that I need to start my iPad while playing Fargoal. Everything works, even the music, but I stop getting ambient or battle sounds. When I restarted, it goes back to normal.

    I am almost sure that the fault lies with We Rule, where I have been enabling alerts. Going to turn off alerts in that game for awhile and see if I'm right.

    Does this reasoning make sense?

    Hey... what might be a dumb question here: is the upcoming update with all this new great jazz.. a "new" edition which needs to be purchased, or will it be an "update" to existing product that we already have purchased license for?

    No, not even thinking about that thing yet, but we will probably do a quick update for it when we get a chance.

    It's possible that the alerts are interfering with the sound system. I'll take a look.

    Hmm, good question... Do you want to pay another 4 bucks? Is it worth it? ;)

    It'll just be a regular "free" update, but it will also add support for DLC that you can purchase if you so desire.

    After bringing the Sword to the surface several times as either a squire or a hero, I've finally made the plunge into Legend. I'm rather embarrassed that it took me this long, but all the commentary on the forums has had me intimidated. And with good reason. I would like to echo Mindfield's sentiments from some months ago on this very forum...

    HOLY MOTHER OF CRAP.

    After 6 lives, I've yet to clear the first floor. Quite humbling, really. I mean seriously. Why are there Shadow Dragons on the FIRST FLOOR?!?? Geez. But, like most everybody else in here, I've got a slight masochistic streak, so... I'm loving it.

    A brief transcript of my last life:

    :: gate slams ::
    :: sees rat ::
    :: kills rat, limps away ::
    :: shakes an angry fist at the gods of Chaos ::
    MORE PAIN, PLEASE!
    :: opens chest ::
    :: BOOOOM!!! ::
    "Mortal Wound!"
    That'll do, thanks!
    :: dies ::

    :rolleyes:

    YES. May the needless bloodletting continue!

    On Legend, there is a greater likelihood that out-of-depth monsters are skulking about.

    Also, I submitted a little update this weekend... just a few bugfixes and tweaks, OS4 support.

    I humbly submit that my approach would be to wait until I obtain either a Detect Traps Scroll and/or Wand of Opening before attempting any chests.

    True, but you never know how long it'll take until you get those... you could pass up a LOT of loot before you find one. Plus, when you're in Legend, you need every last scrap of XP you can glean, whether it's gold from chests, or just the xp from opening one. :p

    LOVE LOVE LOVE this game. Playing it more than all my other games combined. This is a feat, considering how much I loved Trism and currently love Canabalt.

    Currently on my nth attempt to beat the game on Legend. Level 15, on the 14th dungeon level, and girding up for my first scraps with a Legendary Mage.

    Really enjoying the directions you're taking the game. Love the 'themed' levels, and the feeling of a rhythm - trap/maze dungeons clustered together, undead-infested crypts are rare and spaced apart, creepy centipede-infested caves have most of the circular rooms with boons/banes. The game has FLAVOR.

    --

    If you're looking for critiques / feedback from us players, I can only offer a few:

    It's kind of a let-down to be on level 14-15 and see a typical 1st-level dungeon with the same old beige/brown tile set, barrels, tables and rats. Would it be possible to see a more...sinister version of those basic dungeons? Not totally different, but darker, slimier, more corrupted. Maybe the rats make scarier noises. Maybe the barrels are filled with foul-colored liquids. Maybe the light sources burn greenish. I am getting closer to the heart of darkness, it should start warping things. Know what I mean?

    Gargoyles look a lot scarier than the other monsters you encounter early. I almost feel they deserve to start showing up on deeper levels. When I start a new game, I freak out when I see one, then feel a bit let down once I see how easy they are.

    --

    Here are some crazy brainstorm ideas that I absolutely never expect to see in the game, but hope they spur some creativity for you:

    Levels have 'good' temples. Why no 'evil' temples? Maybe creatures that flee from you and get away go there to heal. Maybe they can get a 'blessing' that lets them withstand any fear effect you offer. Maybe the hero is somehow hindered nearby them, and they're occasionally paired with some other unavoidable task or tempting risk.

    I had a shield that looked like bones that cast fear on creatures that hit it. (I forgot the name.) I'm also wearing the Painbringer amulet. Shouldn't there be some... drawbacks to using some of those somewhat evil-themed items? Like, you generate much tougher skeletons more often from ossuaries? Or you're more likely to get sick when struck by undead?

    I was waiting for something like that with the Painbringer amulet, which completely negates certain classes of threats. It seemed too good to be true. Not sure how you'd message it to players so it would get across without hitting them over the head, but...I'm sure your devious mind could take that somewhere.

    I think objects like the crystals and braziers aren't used as well as they could be for ambiance or design. You have irregular caves.. what if huge irregular clumps of crystals were used in place of some walls? You have circular rooms... what if the braziers were arranged symmetrically inside some great hall, like a cross pattern, or every 3rd square across/down in a grid, and created a slight flicker in the light for the entire hall? That sort of thing.

    --

    Anyway, you've taken this thing in amazing directions without any help from me, so take these for what they're worth...some things I'd do if it were my game.

    Thanks for reading. And continuing to develop such an awesome game. :)

    Hey guys, that's some great feedback akasnowmaaan, and good ideas. And yup, I think you've put your finger on what is needed to take the game to the next level. There are technical limitations on why some of your ideas aren't possible with the current dungeon, but that's why I'm completely re-writing the dungeon map code. :D This is what the next "big update" is going to be. You will see vastly different dungeons as a result.

    And yeah, monsters like the gargoyle and others will continue to gain special abilities and find their own place in the dungeons.

    Jinnysmith, I hope so too. :)

    I am for the first time in Fargoal - my first for any roguelike, actually - about to retrieve the Sword. I do not want to go into this blindly after all the time this has taken me. Does anyone have any tips for me?

  13. Yes. Run. :D

    Seriously, try to avoid using invisibility (it screws you up if a wizard takes the sword) and pay attention to the locations of up stairs on each level; make a bee-line for them. Avoid fighting if you can, but if you can't, make sure you win. If you have amassed some, make liberal use of your shield spells, and use wands if an enemy gets in your way before you engage them to fight. And whatever you do if you must fight, make sure you're the one who picks the fight; monsters can't get away if you started it. Use up whatever spells, potions and wands you have, since you can't take them with you.

    And run.

    New website looks much spiffier! But I expect the best and wittiest discussions will continue here, right? (If that continues to be true, more people should perhaps be clues in. Just sayin'.
