FINALLY beat SoF on Hero! Probably had more to do with me lucking out with stair placement than my fighting skills, but I did it! A +30 sword could have had a bit part in this too... Maybe I'll take a whack at Legend tomorrow. Love this game. Someone needs to call the Orkin man to get some of those centipedes and bats under control. Good XP, but geez...they can be a bit much at times in their sheer numbers. It appears that if you step on one 'ceiling hole', centipedes/bats will spawn at every one of those traps on the floor.
Turned into a Cowboy I am having/making the best Hero game I've had yet. So far, for now, I'm ignoring the sword because I want to see the lower levels. So cool! Will probably die, with or without the sword, but I'm beefed up to level 22 with about 38 enchantment. My best friends are the lower level warlords. I keep taking their war shields and running around seeking gold like a maniac so me and my sword can get blessed and blessed again. I've actually had some of the baddies run away from me and the chase is great fun! Note to Paul: Those flat black floors are really beautiful. Nearly 1 AM and I've been playing for hours. Will let my brave woman sleep on a temple and try to get some sleep my ownself. G'night good warriors.
Congrats, chrisb3! Sometimes when the bats drive me batty, I sit in the temple for awhile and just swat them when they come near. God, what weirdo recreations I've developed. I detest swarms of centipedes and often slip through the nearest tunnel to get away from them, and when I return they are fewer in number. I find myself telling them to piss off a lot though.
Go find the Dragon Shield and you won't need the War Shields anymore. That Dragon Shield really kicks some serious *ss. Takes a very long time to take significant damage.
I do that too (sit at the Temple and pick them off). "Piss off" is the postable version of what I say to them.
It's the Temple, it regenerates your HP if you stay there. It also give you the blessing sometimes (I do not remember if it's every fixed amount of gold donated), which means full instant recovery and eventually total repairing of your shield.
In the update, the wand of fireball has been given some extra pepper, and it works pretty nicely for clearing out a room full of bats. There's also something new that can help, if you find it...
You should hand-place a 'special' object every 2 floor or so after the 10 floor, that can obtained only with complete exploration and several steps (like...dig some gold here, step in that plate, pull these levers in that order as read in that ancient scroll....)...just for the sake of exploration. I guess this could do very well integrated in some form of 'side quest'. Am I reading correctly (from others posts) that you can go deeper than 20 floor and find LOTS AND LOTS of amazing stuff? Hmmmmm.....very interesting....
