Oh no! I could've sworn that I was running into walls and getting damage in the last update Sneaky fargoalites tricking me into sharing secrets
I'm not sure that's right.... I have music ON but "Play fanfare" OFF. If I start a brand new game the little musical jingle as soon as the game starts does NOT play. It will only play if I switch "Play fanfare" ON. So back to my original request.... is it possible to change it so the musical jingle at the start plays even when "Play fanfare" is set to OFF? Thanks my friend.... how is the update coming?
Experienced my first death in my first game. (level 8 / floor 7) I have one request. Please, more shields. Or let my shield last longer. This game is extremely fun and hard to put down, but the whole thing with my shield disappearing after a few hits is really frustrating. Thanks!!!!
That's part of the challenge. Find a better shield, preferably one made of metal or some specialty shield. They last longer. I also hear the gods are handy with a hammer and forge and will restore your shield to new if you offer them enough gold...
You should be able to find better shields on your way through the dungeon and they shouldn't break apart so easily. Even the barrel lids I don't seem to have a problem with holding up in the earlier levels. Which shields are you finding that arent holding up well for you? I think there are plenty of shields, myself. Wouldn't want to make it too easy now would we? heh! Though it makes life interesting when you rely on a shield and find ourself without one! Ah the life of an adveturer!
As soon as my shield would break I would start looking for another. I would scour the current level (through hidden passages and all) shield-less as long as I could until forced up to the previous level in order to survive. I would wander that level looking for barrels or enemies with a shield finally going up another level looking around. Finally out of frustration I just decided to play without worrying about a shield and thus my death on floor 7. I really just could not find another. The only shields I've been able to find so far are barrel tops and wooden ones either found or from slain enemies. Then once on floor 7 it would only last a very short time. Thanks.
The music that plays right when the app is loaded is not fanfare, that's what I was talking about. As far as the game-start jingle, that is considered fanfare. I'll talk to the other guys to see what they think. Update is coming very well. Maybe good to go tonight. Just fixing up a few small bugs I found last night. vbMark... the presence of shields is really just luck of the draw. Sometimes you'll find a fine metal shield on floor 1, other times you won't see them until you get deeper. That's just part of the challenge. Seek out barbarians, they often have a funky variety of shields. Also, the dwarven guards carry them quite often. You're more likely to find a shield in the dark dungeon levels too... there are generally more items in those. Also vbMark... you passed through the crypt level and didn't search for a very special shield in there? Hmm...
I agree that the limited numbers of available shields adds to the challenge. However, I would be in favor of giving us the option of WHEN to take a blessing, so we can save it for times when we actually have a shield, at least on Hero mode.
Maybe that's why I still haven't resurfaced with the Sword, but since I stopped searching for shields and using a LOT more the shield spell, I made much more progress. Usually a shield doesn't last me more than a level, more than one if I got blessed and I have the metal one (never found the dragonscale one, I DID found the super cool scary one and the spiked one)....while shield spell are all 'one combat spell' but I'm nearly invincible with that spell cast on me. I noticed that towards level 20, I had like 15-20 unused shield spells. That didn't saved me from dying on my way back up with the Sword by the bite of a DAMN RAT though!!! BTW, I must confess that somehow, after actually finding the Sword, the appeal of re-doing my way down from level 1 has been slighly reduced....I keep playing, making many mistakes and dying a lot while trying to reach the Sword as fast as I can, because I found the frenetic gameplay when you actually HAVE the Sword much more compelling than when you are going down...so (mainly for time contraints...almost a real week to reach level 20 for me) I wish there was only 10 level instead of 20, or enemies (and you) had much less HP...sometimes when I have plenty of potions and more than 200 HP, I keep grinding to level up before going the next floor, and I combat enemies almost not even looking at the screen. I wish the game, when you get the Sword, would save a 'one time savegame' to let you try again to recover the sword on your way up....but maybe it's just an overdose of Fargoal, and I have only to wait a bit to recover the whole enjoyment of dying multiple times on my way down.... I guess I'll sto playing a bit waiting for the update. And yes I'm Pitta, and I'm Faghaolic.
I am currently working on a quest where my skills are Level 10 and I am on level 9 of the dungeon. I just came across a huge vault area which contained a Lion's Orb. In the process of getting the orb, I stepped on a number of squares that caused 10+ poison darts to shoot at me. Needless to say, I have been poisoned for quite a while and have been bleeding HP almost nonstop at a very rapid rate. I have had to use 10+ healing potions and several restoration potions, and I am still poisoned and losing points quickly. Is there any other way to counteract the effect of the poison? Of course, I can't seem to find a temple when I need it most. Loving this game. Been playing it to the exclusion of the rest of my apps for 3 weeks now.
cprloe, the "when" option won't be available for gold, but we are adding other similar stuff... the next BIG update will have a lot more in that respect. Also for poison... well there are a few ways to counter-act it. Perhaps you can figure them out. Also, every try a shield spell vs. darts? Just sayin'. vbMark, muahaha Pitta, as we update more and more, there will be more stuff to do on the way down! And even eventually, you will be able to just skip the sword and keep diving. Your feedback is valuable, and we can use it to refine and diversify the game as we add to it. Yes, more sub-quests and stuff are planned and eventually the dungeon will just feel like a big crazy ecosystem. Update should be ready for submission tonight, and there are some nice new visuals among other things, so more stuff to enjoy anew.
That's keep happening to me a lot too. I usually park my Hero on a Temple and eventually use a beacon spell to reach it (I save the beacon spell for times like these). Personally I do not know any method to counteract poison effects except waiting, nor I found any objects that prevent me from being poisoned. That's bad because room packed with worms are PERFECT to level up.
So ... you're thinking of having the ability to bank your blessings? Interesting. I'm not sure how that could be implemented without breaking the flow of gameplay though unless you stick it under one of the sidebar menu items (say under spells). That would kind of be an interesting idea, though it's hard to say if that might make the game too much easier if you were allowed to stockpile them. That's a pretty powerful ability after all. Even for Hero mode he'd probably have to spread out the blessings over larger cash donations. (You know, it just occurred to me ... heavenly healing through cash donations? Dude, that's Jerry Fallwell hiding in those temples!)
Only once, but it was BEFORE I reached the Sword and started to understand well the game mechanics. When I tried, I can assure it, I died A LOT. I decided to actually finish the game in Hero mode before trying seriously Legend Mode. You're tempting though....(I hate you )
Shields are so random! Which is the way they're supposed to be. I've had a couple of games like yours, vbmark, finding few shields and most of those the weakest ones. I'm now playing a game where I've been very rarely without a shield. And while I've not yet found the very sexiest ones, this time I've found war shields three times, and twice managed to get blessed so that they were restored. On the other hand, I seem to have fewer shield spells than usual. Always something to sweat in this game.
You know, dear Madgarden, I should tell you this. Not only you have created one hell of a game, which for unknown reasons I find incredibly addicting as not many other games I found in my life (I started playing on a Commodore Vic20) but I must warn you that I'm gathering a group of legals in case my marriage would fall apart. And, know this, every time my lovely spuse tell me:' Haven't you finished playing that strange game YET??? Do you have really to play it every 5 minutes???' I'll now start telling: It's Madgarden fault'. I'll let you know her answer (if I can write it here, but I'll probably be banned ) Fortunately my son LOVES the combat jingle. Can't really wait for the updates.
