Hey I just got back after not playing games on my iPod for like 2 months awesome update. You should so add an item that you can drop [while running away from a monster] that will freeze/burn/poison/kill/drop/distract an enemy.
Doffie, that makes a lot of sense, because that's what we've been aiming for. You make your own adventure. dumbname, cool. Yeah, I think for the next update we will be adding stuff like that... basically traps of some sort that you can set, be it magic, physical, or whatever.
Floor 18....found cool amulets and orbs.... Can't wait to reach floor 20, finger crossed Still shieldless (ie, I always find a Drake that crashes my brand new metal shield, usually 3 STEPS away from temple+blessing). Amazing game.
To Whom It May Concern: I have more input for the Legendary difficulty; I have also found a tweak you programed into the game that I would like to discuss. Yesterday, I died nearly twenty times on Legendary mode with my avatar named Atrius. He was breathed upon, instantly killed by explosions, or savaged by a master monk's deadly beating stick (swiftly followed by a taunting dance above my crumpled corpse). So, out of frustration, I decided to spawn myself a female avatar instead, and I found out what you implemented into the other sex. Within minutes, I was not dead. In fact, it seemed that enemies couldn't hit me. Why you ask? Well, there's a certain attribute you added female avatar, apparently, that is labeled "sex appeal." The sprited monsters can't help but check out that avatar's bod, causing them to fumble in their steps like a nerd at a bar. Legendary mode is far too easy now, and I have successfully retrieved the sword by prancing in and simply walking out. I believe this advantage is unfair, not to mention incredibly unrealistic.(1) Your avatar shouldn't be able to flash a little skin to get an advantage. Frankly, I'm having trouble playing now, because I accidentally get caught in the same trance the monsters and villains do. I am awoken in a nearly-coma-like-state by my fiance, who demands that I stop playing "that damn game." In conclusion, I play this game too much. Unless the female sprite is patched, I'm afraid my fiance doesn't want me playing Fargoal anymore, and that makes me a sad panda. Sincerely, Wielder (This message was brought to you by Sarcasm Inc.) P.S. - I have now died twenty one times in a row on the first three floors on legendary. You've got me addicted to getting the sword, and I refuse to do it on either of the lower difficulties first. Oh no! P.P.S. - Twenty two. (1) -
Good to know about the HP balancing.... I think this means it'll be worth keeping the wands for the lower floors where they can be more valuable. I seem to remember on one playthrough I found a wand of sleep and fire but on my last save (where I got to level 27) I didn't find them at all. Is every game loaded with the wands available or do they sometimes not spawn? How are you getting along with the update my friend? Any news for us....
Heck yeah it does! Most RPGs seem to be about finding the optimal path your character is SUPPOSED to take to flow through the scripted story. In Sword of Fargoal and other good Roguelikes, there might be a story to give you some context and a clear primary mission, but beyond that you alone will decide/discover your fate. Heck, even the developer will only be able to give you some vague and hazy tips since he will have no idea what precisely you'll be running into as you embark on your attempt at retrieving the sword.
wobblez, you will like the HP balancing. It was much needed IMO. Still fine-tuning it, but it's turning out VERY nice. Also, I added a special new item just for you, based on some of your whining earlier. But it's a good item, good idea! Thanks for that. Wands, there are not a TON of wands, but there are at least a 1/2 dozen or more of each kind. I've added a new wand for the update also. Aiming for Sunday submission, HP balancing needs much testing and refinement. LordGek, yep... also, I like to be surprised myself when I'm testing my/our own games, otherwise I'd be bored out of my skull, heh.
I am SO curious! Was it originally MY idea or did I just inspire you to come up with it? If it was mine then I think I know what it is.......
You'll find out... maybe! It's definitely a cool and useful addition IMO, especially considering you have less HP overall now.
Hey Madgarden.. (I am getting on the bad wagon here) How about polymorph? we could have a polymorph spell to turn the monster we are fighting into something else (with some special creatures having resistance or immunity), there would be a chance of making it into something stronger and harder to kill and visa versa. Some of the magic using mobs could use it as well to polymorph the character. And then there are polymorph traps.. About to grab the sword on level 20 and POW! you are a giant centipede for 30 seconds running away form from a troll before you get stepped on... Just a thought of something that could be something fun If you turned into a troll you would be able to have a 1 shot skull throw
Yeah, thought of that actually! Shapeshifting etc. Might be fun smashing through walls as a troll, heh, or flaming bugs as a drake. Definitely something that is being considered.
Yes, you said what I'm thinking exactly right; the operative word is SUPPOSED. Not putting down games like that, just appreciating the difference in this game.
