Oh, is that what it does? No healing? Not even with a temple or healing potion? Or just no slow regen as you'd otherwise normally get? Either way it's similar to being poisoned, except instead of losing points you just don't gain any naturally until you're well again. Also, sickness seems to last longer than the other detrimental effects. I'd be playing it right now but I have to get ready to leave work.
I hadn't fully tested its limits but my ASSUMPTION is that it only stop natural healing but I'd be curious what standing on a temple does in this case.
No doubt. I haven't been able to get sick again so I haven't been able to test the theory, but I'll assume you can heal yourself, you just won't heal naturally. Seems the most logical thing, since it would be absurd if you couldn't heal at all. You'd die pretty quickly.
Hmmm, I just found an interesting aspect of the temples you find in the game (no, not the healing)! It's really cool to discover unknown/hidden features in a roguelike, so I won't spoil it for anyone else
this game is awesome, i still want to play more to get more of an understanding but i like what i see! oh and, can you die of starvation?
I've gotten the blessings before too. Not sure but maybe that is triggered by a certain amount of gold dumped in one big "donation"... What I saw was different, could have been a fluke, but I think it was a legit feature
Hmm. I'll have to maybe save up before dumping then. I've got almost 60 magic sacks, so I ought to be able to accumulate a good bit of gold before going to make my sacrifice. Might be easier said than done though considering I've been using the temples to heal a fair bit. But I could probably bury my gold before visiting...
In the original game, you get a blessing every 2000 gold donated I think. I honestly haven't verified that this is true in this version but that seems to be about right. You definitely do not need to donate it all at once though. I just got a blessing after donating a couple hundred gold pieces. I think once you get to 2000 gold you get a blessing and then the counter resets for the next 2000.
The blessing is actually feature that we added in the 2003 remake, and have carried forward to the iPhone version. Mindfield... 60 SACKS... Haha! Careful, or that could become your new nickname.
I keep thinking of the remake as a direct port of the original, but I guess there must have been some changes made to the game. That almost makes me want to break the emulator out just to see how the original played again. I think I was probably 13 when we played the first version and my memory of the game is fuzzy at best.
Oh, well then I just wasted a 5,000 gold sacrifice then. Oh well. And by the way, it's 61 sacks now. I've got sacks a-poppin'! Sacks coming out of my ears! I've got sacks in my sacks! Xzibit is jealous.
I'll bet old "Sixty Sacks" could teach me a thing or two about how it works by now, fer shur! ;^) -- Jeff McCord
Oh I think I've discovered it too!! That makes like 5 awesome things about this game that I've just happened upon. Plus, now I got a new strategy to use LOL at Sixty Sacks!
I'd fallen into a pit down to 6 from 3 then climbed up, kept levelling, things were going very well then fell down to 8 but climbed back up to keep on levelling... and when I reached level 5, a stupid monk killed me before I knew it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Thought I was going to complete my first play. But this game is utterly awesome. I love it. Nice balance of retro & modern stylings, great amosphere too - you really do feel like you're exploring. I actually prefer it to Zenonia too... 4.5/5. It's the first game I have ever played in this genre & you've made me a fan. Looking forward to what you come up with for the expansions too. Maybe an editor - could be online and allow editing to create your own monsters, hero sprite etc. Perhaps the ability to make your own textures too.
