I have great news: SwapQuest won the Indie Showcase award at the Develop conference in Brighton! That's the first award I've won in my life and it felt (and feels) amazing. It was really a big surprise, there were many great games in the indie showcase. We also finished another level this week. It's an ancient temple full of traps, forgotten machinery and treasure. That leaves us with only two more levels to go. Hopefully I can show you the next one next week. Here are some impressions. Levers open doors, like in real life Can anybody guess where the inspiration came from? The promised traps They almost seem alive... Hope you like it! Would love to hear some feedback from you!
Some time has passed since the last update, but we haven't been lazy. The second last level is almost complete and we're already working on the last level - which also has the last boss in it! - and a little cutscene, which always eats up a lot of time (if there's a cutscene in the game, I want it to be as epic as possible). I'd love to show new gifs here, but I don't want to give away everything before you actually played the game, so nothing new today... sorry. After we have finished all the levels, we will get back to the following tasks: - Create the second half of the world map - Revise all the menus - Finish the caravan (right now only the merchant works) - Create an intro and ending - Balance the hell out of the game If everything works according to plan, the game will be finished in September or October. Wish us luck. To make this post less boring, here's a little image I threw together in five minutes. That's dedication!
Congrats on the award! September/October sounds good, looking forward to getting my hands on the game and hoping that it does really well too.
Thanks a lot, ste86uk! I still can't believe that September is already less than a month away. I will have to work like a madman to finish it in time, but then again, that's what I've been doing the past months.
Hopefully September rather than October : ) there isn't much to look forward to at the minute so it's always nice to have something. Seems that you do it all pretty quickly though.
Very nice! I am adding this to the watchlist. You may want to update the release date in the first post by the way, my first reaction after opening this thread was to look up the game on iTunes
I have the feeling that I'm super slow. On paper there's not much left to do, but the end of a project tends to take up the most time, so my personal guess is that it will be released sometime in October. But it's really hard to say, especially as I don't know how smooth the balancing phase will go. Haha, that's embarassing. Well, May would've been sweet, but around that time the game had only four levels. In theory it always sounds so easy to finish a game on time (at least to me), but it's incredibly hard.
Yeah, tell me about it... My "Escape from the Pyramid" should have been released in 2013!* *he said, sneakily adding some self-publicity in another thread
@Alan-C No problem, your game looks fantastic. Do you run automatically? Looked to me that way in the video.
I've been working on the last boss for the last two weeks to make sure it's as epic as possible. So far I'm really satisfied. It's certainly the most complex boss so far, but at the same time I tried to structure is properly so people won't get confused. This time the boss actually has a more coherent narrative than the other bosses, where the actions you had to do where more disconnected from each other. I hope, this helps to make the last boss feel special and worth the effort. I challenged myself to finish the boss this week, but as it's already Friday I don't think I can make it. But it's very advanced, so I should be able to start with the end phase of this project very soon. I'm so excited for this, as it means the release in October is still possible. I will also do a beta phase in September, so if anyone is interested to test the game on iOS or Android, leave a message here.
I'm certainly interested in testing for iOS. How are you planning on doing the beta? (TestFlight, Amazon - I think that's what Nimblebit used for TT Vegas, submit to the App Store without wide release, etc.)
Glad you got the boss finished and are happy with it. Seems like everything is all coming together for you now after so long in development : ) As you already know I'm interested in beta and can't wait to try the game.
@all thanks a lot, I will put you in a list and get back to you when it's ready. I don't know yet how big the beta test will be, but I'll be trying to get as much feedback as possible. I will most likely be using Testflight (although I had some issues with it in the past) and upload a Google Play version as well (don't know if it works well for beta tests, but someone I know made the beta test for his game like that, so it should work somehow).
