NEWS! : http://kaalus.wordpress.com/2013/07/14/terrain-goodness/ i have found old interview with Kaalus if someone want to read: http://wp-games.pl/2011/11/26/wywiad-rzeka-z-tworca-gry-survivalcraft/ polish and english version
Very cool. The only thing that really disconcerts me about survivalcraft is how the biomes are really small and close to each other, making a strange and unrealistic assortment of land types. Would there be any way to change this generation in the update after this?
It's still very much a work in progress, I expect to see lots of changes to terrain gen in the future. Just improving the cragginess of it, and including islands and better river systems to justify the use of boats seems to be the immediate priority. Right now there are only a small number of biomes too. Increasing the size and number of biomes should be a fairly straightforward thing to include in the future. All that really matters is that the game is being actively developed, and the the developer cares about the details of their work. Both of these things are true. Even just this week's two videos about boats show that. Halfway through making the first one he gets an idea to improve them, then a couple of days later shows it off. Having boats flood and then sink rather than just breaking is above and beyond what was expected of him. The more he works on the terrain gen, the better he understands it so even these smaller changes now will help educate him for the later updates. He knows we want more of the bigger caverns, ravines, biome types and sizes. We'll probably see everything at some point. This game is a true labour of love. It's a clone, sure. But it's no cheap cash-in clone, it's made by someone who loves this genre of game but who could also see ways to make it better. Going to enjoy exploring the new terrain when the update drops. I made a new world recently, spent a few hours gathering resources. Didn't travel far though, so just a quick boat ride and I'll find all sorts of new treats waiting for me. Best 4 bucks I spent on the App Store.
Once better terrain gen does get in, this game'll be even more awesome. It's already awesome now, with boats coming in and everything I kind of want a predatorial bird, something that'll attack the player from the skies.
I suggested the same thing on either one of his videos, or Twitter or somewhere. You are spot on. For all the upcoming survival changes which will make combat more difficult, simply pillaring up remains the easiest way to avoid and defeat enemies. Something with a ranged attack, or something that attacks from the air, would be a nice counter to that. Just so you can't just always get out of trouble by using a nerdpole. I truly hope that pistons are the next point of focus though. The current wiring system is superior to even desktop Minecraft, let alone MCPE, but without pistons it's just a fancy way of opening doors and turning on lights. (Though using trapdoors to make an elevator is an amazing discovery someone made.) Pistons is where all the real genius designs happen. As he has managed to make small improvements to other longstanding Minecraft traditions, I'd love to see his take on pistons.
The update sounds good... looking forward to the islands, more interesting terrain, farming, and boats. Seems like we should have it within 2 weeks unless they find a bunch of bugs.
Awesome -- bricks and granite paint-able. Looking forward to improvements to terrain because I sometimes enjoy just flying around in the world and just looking down at the landscape.
This video cracks me up! I'm sold. It was just hillllarious how many times he tried to make a shovel. Maybe he hasn't played minecraft, or doesn't see the connection it has with this game's mechanics. I'm going to buy it right now, even though I cannot afford it. I need a new job--don't give a flack.
