It sounds like you might need to generate a new map. Maybe you are right; I haven't played Minecraft (PE) a lot to know which is the better game, but this is the one that sticks with me. I have played it on the ipod touch, and I agree, it can be cramp. About the caves. I haven't found good ones for a good long time, but I stuck with my original map anyway. It took me a while to find coal too, but I just went on playing. I expanded slowly, explored as far I as could. Since caves seems rare on my map, it is always thrilling to find one. I would build roads from my original settlement to the new site, so I can get back, build a new house there for convenience. Mine, build new structures, look for new caves. That's the game for me.
To be fair, you are comparing SurvivalCraft to desktop Minecraft. Which, let's be honest, isn't ever going to work out. If you compare SC to Minecart PE, the version available on mobile devices, then you get a much better impression. The reason all of us in this thread love the game is that it delivers an experience on mobile that is CLOSER to desktop Minecraft than the official mobile Minecraft app. That piece of junk is $7 and has far fewer features than SurvivalCraft. You said you can find caves easily in Minecraft? There are no caves in MCPE. None. Zero. Nada. You said you found no mountains in 10k of exploring? MCPE only let's you go 255 blocks before hitting invisible walls, the world is TINY. Etc etc etc. It's a work in progress, as all the various versions of Minecraft are too. Don't feel bad about the $4 you spent on this game, it could have been worse: you could have spent $7 on MCPE which is a bitterly hollow and empty experience. Yes this game is very limited compared to desktop MC, which will always reign supreme, but it's the grand daddy of the mobile platforms.
After buying SC, I bought MCPE. I can really see how MCPE is ... limited. The only feeling I m currently missing in SC is the feeling of danger, and that shall be corrected comes 1.22 Now, I ve still got MCPE, and great hopes about that game. But as it is right now, it's badly inferior to SC.
After playing some more SC, I can definitely understand more of the appeal. It's way more survival based. And yes, I was comparing to desktop MC because that's what every MC clone ought to strive towards. I can see more that that's not a fair comparison. I know that survivalcraft beats MCPE to a pulp in terms of features, but MCPE has a certain element of polish that is very attractive, such as better looking animals, menus and a much better optimization for my particular device, all of which are coloring my enjoyment of SC. I'll play some more before making my final judgement.
Better menus ? How can this be, when MCPE has basically no menu currently (?) The MCPE interface is basically horrible. You can't easily stack items without dropping them (If you have 29 coal in a slot, and 10 in another slot, it's a pain to combine them into a single 39 stack). Survival craft has proper drag'n'drop for items. The command to drop items on the ground is counter intuitive. In SC, the command is absolutely natural (Drag'n drop) When you're not familiar with the game, the only way to know what a block is is to put it on the quickbar and to click on it. The jump button sucks donkey balls. It's basically impossible to jump while moving. You can't even hide the cross You can't choose to have bigger and/or smaller UI. SC has way more options available to customize the UI. Don't even get me started on the fact that SC doesn't requires any knowledge to be able to include texture packs or share world files - the feature is included To me, animals have globally about the same quality. It's mostly a matter of preference. Did you try changing the view distance or things like this in the options ?
So I have never played minecraft and I went ahead and bought this because I was looking for something new. Well I have no idea how to get going? Like what do I do? Right now all I do is walk around and explore.
The help section is invaluable. These types of games are incredibly daunting at first as nothing is actually explained ingame. Hopefully at one point someone with time to spare will make a nice tutorial world similar to that on Xbox 360 Minecraft. Browse through the recipedia in the help section, that shows all the blocks in the game. Then load up a world in creative and experiment putting blocks down. The way most people play is on challenging (survival on Minecraft) because mining blocks and then crafting blocks is a fun thing to do along the way to building a castle. Essentially the entire game is about removing blocks with tools, using those raw materials to craft stuff, then placing those new blocks down in a way that pleases you. Along the way animals try to kill you. It's LEGO with monsters, basically. Read the help sections, browse the recipedia, mess around on a creative world to experiment in safety with no limits. You'll figure out a lot of the basics that way. I don't think there are any really good videos specifically for SurvivalCraft yet, but some of the Minecraft tutorial videos (of which there are many) will give you an idea of the kind of things you need to do when starting out. The survive and thrive series by Paulsoaresjr is worth a look, the early couple of days in both games are very similar when it comes to making a safe place to rest, making torches and tools etc.
Maybe u should consider saving up for a better device, I play on a ipad and SC is Awsom. I used to play mcpe but havnt looked back since starting SC, it's superior in everyway. I know maybe u can't afford another device if so that's ashame.
I mean stuff like crafting menus and the main menu, which look a lot classier in MCPE. I've never had a problem with MCPE resource management, although i actually like the way it works in SC more. The UI in SC is kinda ugly IMHO. I don't see many options to adjust it other than removing pads either. My main gripe with animals is not their resolution but their models. They look unnatural and just...idk. I dont like em. Keep in mind I'm not really trying to rip on Survivalcraft: after playing more, I'm more and more satisfied with my purchase. I just feel like many of the game elements need some polish to give the game the same touch of professionalism that MC and MCPE have. Right now I feel like it's a fully featured block builder that looks like but does NOT play like a cheap MC ripoff. (Side note: SC desperately needs ghost / hologram outlines before you place a block, like MCPE does. It would make it way easier to know where exactly you're placing blocks.)
I just wanted to share: maybe I just suck at games, but I feel danger loud and clear in this game. Yesterday I actually managed to set myself on fire - in CREATIVE mode. I was trying to stave off the wolves with my torch but my walls caught on fire instead!
You must have been holding a match instead of a torch. Yes, those things are highly flammable and dangerous.
Ah ha! You are right! Those wolves had me panicked. (I'd been killed by one in normal mode just prior to my attempt at staying alive in creative mode, so I was jumpy!) Anyhow, I think we can say the "survival" part of the title is well-earned, and there is plenty of danger #
I guess im the only person in the world that couldnt get this game to run. Weird. Lol I changed my rating to three stars being it isnt fair for me to rate a game 1 star that ive never played.
It's slower on older devices. ** Found this "waterfall" in the underground. So, does this mean it's possible to make a waterfall like this on the overland?
Absolutely. Building stuff with water and lava is a huge part of these games. Just craft a bucket with three bits of copper, fill it from a water source block, and then place it up on a hillside somewhere. The possibilities are endless.
