Where are you guys finding iron? I've been looking in caves and I even dug a pretty decent mine under my cave/ house. Any tips?

Usually I find them in found caves and not ones that I dig out myself. They tend to be found one layer deeper than where one typically finds coal.

Like said above, usually under the layer with coal. Usually I find it near gravel. I've found it in caves as well as while digging tunnels under my castle on the mountain. Once you get enough of the ore, you'll have to smelt it in a furnace before you can make stuff with it. Typically where I find one block there are many above/below so I clean out an area around each block to be sure.

All my iron so far came from my megacave I found up on a hillside. You don't have to go deep for iron, and when you do run across some it'll be in large veins so you'll be able to load up. Typically I got around 10 blocks in my clusters.

Also, if you are coming from Minecraft, be aware that iron is far less necessary in SurvivalCraft. Well, at the moment at least. No iron armour, no minecart systems, and even things like buckets use copper instead. I've got most of my iron stockpiled for future use actually. I just run with iron weapons, which last pretty long (and you should ALWAYS have best quality weapons because your life isn't worth the price of being stingy on materials) and an iron pick for any deeper ores that won't dig up with stone tools.

    This is that pack:

Have to say, I can't really get into it myself. All those little blocks within blocks, it makes me feel like I'm in a kitchen showroom. All the wood blocks and items look like they come from Ikea.

That said, all this talk of textures has made me go and check out this one, and a bunch of others. Finding the One True Texture Pack is more of a quest than anything in the game itself. I have been a big fan of Dokucraft, but have to say that I don't like the basalt and marble textures, which are the two main black and white building blocks.

I don't know how multiple attachments show up in a post, but my second picture (if this works) comes from SphaxRedux1.21blahblahblah64Hd. I initially wrote Sphax off, but having just spent 15 minutes with it I think I may be in love.

It's a soft cartoony look (which is why I dismissed if initially), but give your eyes a moment to adjust and holy crap it turns the game into Wind Waker. All the natural blocks, ores and etc look amazing. Basalt is a purple-black, sand and snow look good enough to eat, and I like that electric lights share the same look as the wicker lamps. Clay bricks look bad, and furnaces in use don't animate or emit light (no one pack is perfect) but I think this has become my new favourite. It's stylish enough that it gives the game a real character.

Okay, it's one pic per post. The last one was Fanver, this is Sphax.

Oops, the TA app didn't like the last picture and edit doesn't let me put an attachment in. I'll stop while I'm behind.

Do give Sphax a try though. It's very Zelda, and the surface terrain textures are gorgeous once you buy into the "look".

For content, I would LOVE to see engine blocks brought into the game. Make it that the engine block could move constructions of up to X blocks in size. Basically I want to build my own ship, submarine, zeppelin etc. The little Minecraft coracles are rubbish, I want a ship that several people could ride on, with room for storage chests. There's a mod for Minecraft that adds these kind of things and it was enough to make me sad I was playing the Xbox version.

Basically I would like SurvivalCraft to add in the vehicle building from Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Maybe more engines allow for larger craft to be created. But I tell you now, add in the ability for me to make a little sub out of blocks, with electric lights on the outside, so I can drive around underwater and exit through a moonpool and pick up sponges and pearls from the seabed and I'd pay $10 IAP for stuff like that. Motors and Machinery expansion IAP. Take my money, please.

I just started a world, and there are coyotes EVERYWHERE!! I usually run into them and they attack me and I die... And when I kill them they just re spawn.. How do I get rid of them???!?! I don't want to move my house. (Which is more like a hole in the ground)

I seem to have the opposite problem, in that right now I only have birds spawning on the ground near my beach hut. To be fair, I did murder the hell out of everything nearby for a while. I think having a safe place to snooze near the water helps, as with the sharks and birds that probably cuts down on the number of hostile creatures that can spawn on land nearby.

Don't underestimate your ability to kill them all. Load up on weapons and go hunting. As with 99% of videogames the solution to your problem is violence.

I'm very proactive. If I see anything that's not a bird, cow, horse, or giraffe... It's dying.

Hmmm... Block Story has subs. I dream of a mix of both games. :)

Sphax -- cool, trying it now. I've been using Fanver mainly.

I've been scouting around and finally found a very large cave complex with three entrances against a mountain side next to a desert.

So I build a brick house there and intend to go mine the heck out of the place. I've put in stairs and lighted arches everywhere that I've walked so I can find my way back to my other settlements. I noted the wolves in the desert had different color -- golden-brown like... I guess they are really coyotes.

Bears near snowy areas are white (polar bears). Nice way to add variety.

I know I should just look through this thread to find the answer but I find it too overwhelming. How can I create fire?

Easiest way: lump of (charcoal) and a stick. Combines together to form a torch. If you want to set light to things (twisted fire-starter), then you need to create a match.

If you want a heat source for your furnace, then a log of wood will suffice. Coal will burn for much, much longer.

The in-game Help topics and Recipadeia contain the information you need to get started.

So after the glowing TA review, I bought survivalcraft, but I can't shake the feeling that I just blew $4 on a cheap MC clone.

•Plays super slow and looks like crap on an iPod touch 4G, which I wasn't warned about.
•Controls are iffy. I can't pinpoint the problem but something just seems off.
•Game font looks cheesy and cheap.
•Animals are kinda cool but look weird and unnatural against the blocks.
•UI takes up WAAAY too much of the screen.
•Landscape seems very flat. Obviously there are a few hills, but no mountains in 10m of exploration.
•Same with caves. In MC you can find a cave easily. Not so with SC, making it really hard to find coal for torches.

There are a few things I like about it so far, most of which were mentioned by TA, but so far I'm unimpressed with my purchase.

My kids haven't complained about it on their ipod touch 4th gen devices. There are settings that can be tweaked to make it run faster.

Controls can be changed to arrows, but I have no issue using the touch pad option... but I've played a lot of these kinds of games.

There are texture packs to change the look of the game, but honestly the way the animals look and the world is fine by me in default. Others change texture packs and move on.

UI does take up some screen space. Make sure you are running with the top right menu options collapsed. Early on I was running around with that menu open the whole time which didn't help.

I've found tons of mountains and caves. Luck of the seed or just random luck I guess. Try creating a new world and go inland at the beginning to explore. Of course you don't need caves to find coal just like in MC... dig down and eventually you'll hit the layer of material where coal resides... or make some with wood and a furnace.

The one majorly cool thing to this game is the recipedia that's built in. Not having to use external sources for crafting recipes is awesome. The built in info is robust.

    ...

There is a lot to this game... electrics for instance that allow you to control doors, trap doors, actual traps that stab, lights.. and probably something else I'm forgetting as well as logic circuits making it possible to make flashing lights, dawn-to-dusk lights, timers that trigger traps, and so on which has allowed me to be a lot more creative than I expected. Dig into creative mode for a while and then jump back to survival if need be. This has been one heck of a great purchase and well worth the $4... but maybe it's not for everyone? It is more about survival than MC is.
