Fast food is a feature! Rejoice! Was it tasty? Usually I'm the one getting hit by that stuff, thankfully I'm always within running distance of a lake. Reminds me, I should totally make a jacuzzi now....
I nearly learned the hard way too, fortunately I managed to navigate back. If you can remember which way the sun rises and sets in relation to your abode that may help? Did you sleep in your abode as you may respawn there if you kill yourself (the suicide button next to sleep in the player drop menu) last resort but might help.
Awesome deal with the lightning cooked chicken. I watched a tree burn due to lightning. Makes me realize I need to build more with stone & glass. If you slept in the house (as smartbomb mentioned) then you can use the suicide button next to the sleep button and you'll respawn back at your house. Another option. Build a new house and then take treks out from it in all four directions until you find your way back. What I liked to do in minecraft (and it works great here too) is to use torches and build skinny block towers with dirt or sand that are 4 blocks high and then put a block off to the side that points my way back to the start. If I have torches then I'd put a torch on the top or side of the little tower. Being able to track your way around the world helps a great deal.
Yesterday, I got really frustrated because I had matches, and tried to open a chest, but I didn't think I had them in my hand. I lost so much stuff... Then I died. I had plans for a castle and everything. But alas, this was on Cruel.
I'm starting to think the world generation feature isn't as infinite as its made out. Having lost my home I changed the settings to Creation so I could fly high to try and find it. Anyway, I flew in a straight line for ages and ages and I kept seeing the same mines and mountains after a while. I really think the world is wrapped around instead of being infinite.
You could build something then fly round again and see if you spot it more than once to see if this is true.
I tried flying out into the ocean. I flew for quite a bit and didn't see any new land. Maybe we need land on the other side of that ocean. Maybe improved torch lighting and such.
Just posted a link to the first version of my world in the SC content thread, hope I did it correctly...
Maybe the land generator part of the game works better when moving slow versus flying. As if it needs to sort of cheat to keep up when generating new terrain. I may start a 3rd save on creative... build some unique towers and see if I can fly around the world... as well as see what the difference is between land generation and flying.
Ok, I did a quick experiment. I made a new save in creative mode with no specified seed. I explored a bit but near the spawn point I took out some lava and made the top of a mountain turn into a volcano. After that I flew far away... found the sea again, went miles and miles into the see and dove down to the bottom of the ocean. using the same lava bucket I made rocks all the way to the surface and made more lava until I had built a small island. I then tried to find my way back to land but got lost. I ended up pulling out the compass which pointed with it's red arrow back to the original spawn point where I started. So I flew for many minutes ... eventually I made it back to land and back to my spawn point and yes the mountain with the lava was still flowing as it was when I left. I don't think I could find that island again (I left lamps there but the sea is huge). Still, I'm amazed the level is ony 1.67 megabytes. I'll experiment more in a while using the compass and flying in other directions... building stuff... flying back and fourth and seeing if everything sticks and the land formations look right. But at no time did the world feel like it wrapped... it just kept going on and on and on. I saw caves, canyons, many animals I hadn't seen before like giraffes... overall very impressed with the size and scope of the world. I'd imagine the seed has a lot to do with repeated stuff and how much sea you have versus other saves. Also, I flew after the boat at the start and was able to keep up. After about 3 or so minutes I gave up and killed myself so I'd spawn back on land. The boat has no physical presence in the world, you can fly right through it. In my Richland save (Richland is the seed), I went down the beach a little and was able to cross the sea to other lands. That's where I found the cave I've been exploring. Good stuff. So I know not all of the worlds will have a massive sea like that.
Is it possible to change my current world to creative to finish building something and then change it back when I'm done. If so, do I keep all my things I have saved already?
Yep. Although only for Challenging and Harmless. Cruel is the real deal. Only one life to live, no changing back.
I think it depends on the seed. I think it may also have to do with if you are in creative where you can fly versus the regular survival modes. Some seeds though will have more water than others. My Richland save had land on the other side of the water. I did notice if over land and flying it generated land in front of me, when over water and flying it generated more water.
Excellent, thanks. I really want to keep on with the 'only build with what you mine' mentality but I am in need of so many dirt blocks at the moment as I am basically building a mountain. Once I'm done with the dirt blocks I will change back and carry on where I left off.
Wow ! SC is exploding , thanks guys for linking all the threads And it's tearing it up in the game of the week thread 48% woot ! I was thinking of new mobs and I'm sure this has been suggested over at the SC thread , but what about snakes ? You could have rattlers in the desert and caves and coral snakes or cotton mouths- copperheads in other areas , ie by water , forests etc . Daft I'm going to add you to my GC if you don't mind , my id is is scotoman . Cheers all , back to mining Oh and I'd still like a more powerful ranged weapon for some of the tougher mobs - maybe a flintlock as someone else suggested . And the magnet block is really clever , I can't wait to craft a compass so I can really explore , but sadly no diamonds yet
I'm almost tempted to start a Cruel game, since it's the real deal, but losing everything due to a mistep scares the shnitz out of me haha
Cruel is a scary thought. On MC, whenever I play hardcore mode I backup my save between sessions. Ha! ... I started another new save. This time on creative with the intent of building an old west style town. Hopefully the lightning doesn't burn things down.
I wasn't going to mention it, but since the topic was (sort of) brought up... I swear I once saw the same exact mountain in two separate worlds. It's probably just a coincidence. And besides, I have seen floating blocks and I don't see why the developer would put those there on purpose. It's probably nothing and I'm just trying to justify the game being too good to be true.
After all this praise I would expect the developer to show up in these threads. Where are you you? On second thought, he's probably working on the game and he does regular updates on his blog. I guess I'd rather him work on the game then answer every little question. I would like to know if he's reading this though.
