Awesome, yet another addition to enhance the realistic survival feel. Way better than a simple map -- @night: thanks for the advice I was talking about in general, though. Can the SC engine even produce that kind of terrain? That's the best part of Minecraft: finding the ravines, the sprawling underground caverns, other natural formations. So are these things in the game?
I started my abode about 100 squares inland from the shore, I recommend considering the vertical as well as horizontal plane, as the further I've dug down, the more caves and ores I've found. Depending on the seed, I don't think it's the case that you have to travel far to find interesting features. I found a whopping underground cavern that leached off in multiple directions (full of bears :O ). My new world has an arctic tundra which was a cool little feature. Anyone got pics yet? I'm eager to see those vistas.... That magnet idea is awesome, a perfect and simple solution with SC's wilderness identity
The castle is done. I think I want to improve the interior a bit more, also have to make stairs from the peak that goes down the other side. Also, I think I want a mine inside, hopefully find some iron and copper. it already goes down a floor or two, since this was a found cave. I'm still gathering materials, so can't really build anything really large yet. I made an elephant topiary. It looks promising closeup but it just looks like one giant bush in a distance. I didn't keep it. So I just made a simple hilltop garden, with some lanterns. I plan to make a pool in that excavated hill. More mountains in the horizon...maybe there be caves...
Smart looking castle there raven, love the topiary, hadn't even occurred to me to use foliage that way. I'm going to put the iPad down now lol, wish me luck... Haven't managed so far :/ Here's my creative mode world
Very nice when you can incorporate different stones. I'm gonna have to try the creative mode. There's always something to do. Just getting more ideas, the more I play.
Do you lose all your stuff when you die? I died and respawned, went back to where I died and there was nothing there.
Damn, SC is tearing up the GOTW poll! Maybe if it's a extreme landslide win, TA will take a second look at the game. (Still annoyed by their close minded dismissal of the game) --- Im going to create a General Discussion SC thread to share maps and textures, post pictures of creations, recommending seeds. @Smartbomb: would you be willing to share the name of your map? @ everyone else: can you recommend some impressive seeds and good maps? Pictures too, if you can
I have been able to get back my stuff. But there was one time, it was scattered a bit way off from where I fell.
I just thought of something fun. This is kind of hard-core, but what if when u died you had one chance to get stuff back and if you were killed it would disappear. Also, what if some creatures always spawned near your loot, so you would have to craft a weapon and fight to get it back.
you got me By the way, I also think it would be cool if you could carry a torch or lantern while you walk around. Is there anyway to do this? It would really add to the atmosphere and the strategy of moving at night. Oh and is there a way to sprint? If not, when there is, maybe when you're holding a lantern you can't sprint but you can attact. It would also be awesome if there were randomized adventures. Like you find a note or something telling you to come to the place at night and you have to fight a monster to get something. This is stretching it but I do think it would be cool.
Awesome games --- I dont think there's a way to sprint I agree about the torches, but it would diminish the need to craft them if you could just carry one around About randomized adventures, I don't think it would fit in the realistic survival atmosphere. Maybe if multiplayer was added or NPCs, but not yet. Personally I hope monsters aren't added. I don't mind the werewolves and I think Descent-like cave dwellers would be amazing but beside that, I just would like more dangerous animals like mountain lions, crocs, etc.
I feel you. I would be happy with a hard-core realistic survival mode. It would be cool if the game kept track of how many days you could survive or perhaps how far you could make it or something. I could have achievements based on milestones also. What if sometimes at night you were unable to sleep due to the noise or freight. You would have to go out and slay the animals or monsters in order to get a good nights rest
It stays scattered about the ground where you died, but not for very long. I usually manage to get all my stuff as I make a direct bee-line to where I died, and in my map I haven't travelled to far from my spawn point. Seems fairly balanced but gut wrenching when you realise you didn't stick that large stack of iron ingots in a chest before heading out... As an aside, it's always nice to get involved with a community whom feels passionate about a game like this, I'm enjoying reading and chatting to the posters here and whilst the game lacks any form of GameCenter integration, I'd still like to offer up my id as the folks in here are a great bunch. Add "Daftbomb" in GC if its of any interest to you. I do play lots of other apps too lol... Well I did... Hey perhaps that's something this game could include to further distinguish its identity; achievements! What about a trophy for surviving x months in cruel mode, or slaying 50 werewolves with a silver machete? If Kaalus can refine the UGC side of things (search filters, author accounts so uploaders can have stats like #of worlds/likes) there could be achievements based on sharing too such as downloading someone else world and exploring for an hour or finding that hidden sign in an uploaded adventure mode? "Congratulations! You made your first keg of explosives and had a nasty little accident with it" - 10 points When it comes to a game like this, I think it'd be great to allow for user accounts that link with uploads and basic stats. For an example of what I have in mind see the app AirCoaster or PSN game SoundShapes...
Whoa, the app totally missed a whole page of posts when I clicked the "end of thread" arrow. Seems we have the same idea about trophies. I'd love to see Kaalus add them in... The survival modes are fantastic. I haven't the balls to play Cruel mode yet, I kinda think you shouldn't be allowed to modify the game mode after its been made (well especially with cruel mode), this would probably need to be explicitly prohibited if trophies were to be an option. @Bronxsta, yes definitely. I haven't uploaded either map yet, but it's my plan to share the links here. As I previously mentioned I started a new world partly so I could share it without worrying I'd lose "ownership" of my work. If you missed my idea, it's a simple one: use your gamecenter name as the world seed. It cannot be edited so its a way of leaving a permanent mark on a world. A thread for content discussion is overdue, lets make that happen.
@grits, You mentioned it would be nice if the game kept track of how long you survived. Well open a save then in the upper left hit the arrow that points left. On that pause screen read the text blob. It says how many days you've survived. This is in the regular survival mode. I'm not sure what it says in creative. I think it's cool that you can have the option of switching the mode for a world. I haven't taken advantage of this but it will make creating more elaborate worlds easier. .... On my second save tonight I found a deep deep cave. It had a bear in it but I trapped the bear and killed it with a stone spear. I didn't find the bottom of the cave, though I decided to make amp nearby so I could explore it more. So far it yielded several batches of minerals. I can't get over how happy I am with this game. Honestly this just keeps a huge smile on my face. Finally a great game about survival, mining, and crafting that doesn't make me miss playing on the PC.
