Ok, thanks. Didnt know about the framerate-battery link. Set the resolution to medium and haven't had any lag since ---- More impressions: - I think weapons/tools should last longer. I can barely chop down two trees with an axe. Granted, it's a wooden axe but still - The crafting set-up is pretty smart. At first I was confused. Says put three blocks and two sticks but I couldn't make anything. Then I realized that where you place the items in the crafting grid fits the shape of the desired item. Now I find it quite intuitive. - Anyone know how a long a day-night cycle is? - I really hope Kaalus adds more decorative items a la Minecraft. Like bookshelves, paintings, actual beds, etc. - So far I've encountered wolves and bears. I know about sharks, piranhas, and werewolves. Any other hostile animals? - Game really needs to use the MC-style quick select. Four item slots is not enough. - Also hope there will be an option to remove UI icons. The screen is kind of cluttered. I'd prefer not to have the Move/Look text visible. More screen space and would allow for more items slots - Once you're three screens deep in the help menus, a return to game button would be nice, rather than going back through all the precious screens - Lightning looks awesome. Don't know if MC proper has lightning but MCPE certainly didn't. It definitely adds to the atmosphere, especially when you know it's not simply window dressing. You, animals, and your structures can get struck - On that note, can a lightning strike start a forest fire? All in all, really fun game. It hasn't awed me in the same way MCPE did. But 1) that was my first time ever playing a MC game on any system and 2) I was really hyped for it. So this style of games has lost its initial wow factor. But still SC is definitely a huge step up from MCPE in many ways, although lacking in others. However, the upcoming update will be awesome and who knows what will be added in future updates
Wait till you craft an iron tool they last much, much longer and work a bit faster too. I'm with you on the decorations front, a bed, bookshelves and shelves, carpets (wool?) and curtains and clothing would kick ass. I read that fences are getting gates soon, so there's that... Night & day is roughly 15-20 mins I think. Btw, if you check in the options you will find settings to hide the look/move text, makes a big difference. Certainly agree 6-8 slots on screen would make a huge difference, and a quick return to game button would be nice. I'm sure I've seen a tree go up in flames from lightning, certain I saw a couple of birds flambee... And if you get hit, run to the nearest lake lol
Don't have any music on my iPad ATM, but it doesn't let me use the radio app, so I'm guessing no, but it may work with iTunes.... That's one thing that annoyed me about MCPE, I'd have loved to craft away whilst listening to tunes. Perhaps kaalus will sort it out if iTunes app doesn't work? That said, there's more atmosphere in this game so I'm not as troubled personally.
The TouchArcade guys blew this game off a little too quickly. Hopefully they will go read the blog about the next update and talk about it next week.
Got this an hour ago. It seems really fun and wide open which I really like but man, it is brutal. Twice I've run out of daylight whilst trying to build a little shelter and then been killed by wolves because I can't see anything. I then respawn at the shore and can't find my shelter again before daylight runs out and then history repeats itself. I suck at this game.
its rough in the beginning. you gotta try to find a cave, and look for the rock tiles with black spots, and you get coal, mix that with sticks, you craft from trees and your making torches. took me a couple of tries to find a cave tho. bears, and a pissed bull did me in too. my problem is falling to my death. i know there's the sneak mode to not fall, but you move so slow. i haven't built a compass yet, so finding the cave a second time is tough..
One easy way to get a foothold in this game is to first find a mountain with a few trees, cut down a whole tree with your hands and 8 lumps of stone from a nearby mountain. With that you will have everything you need to craft torches giving you time to make a stone axe to mine a hole in the mountain and catch breath. Looking for coal is a tough call at times with such short daylight, so until then just use the tree, stone and the recipaedia to get those torches Block yourself in a small room with dirt on the floor and sleep the night away if its easier...
In a cool twist, as long as you're in a closed shelter all you have to do is click on the stick man icon and hit sleep. Make sure the floor is comfortable PS does the dev post here? If not he should.
Plus if you can build a furnace right away , you can get coal by burning wood Man I love this game and with the way the developer is dedicated , it's just going to get better and better Lol actually smartbomb recommended the same thing in his paragraph above in a round about way . I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes And smartbomb , your mini city is the bomb !
I posted on the Survivalcraft forum and found others with this issue. Thought I'd see if anyone on TA has this problem: I love this game and played for several hours. Now when I load my world it freezes and crashes the game 10-15 seconds after loading. I tried changing it to creative, static, day, no weather, and it seemed ok. Went back to challenging living and thought it was working... After a short while it started freezing and crashing again. At this point I can't play my world anymore. I'm not willing to start over not knowing that this won't happen again... Anyone know what the deal us with this?
I had another thought regarding the Minecraft comparison. Brad mentioned that all the crafting recipes were exactly the same. I actually like this because now I don't have to relearn all the configurations. In a way it's kind of like the button layout in first-person shooters nowadays. It would be annoying to have to keep relearning the buttons for every game. When you find something that works it works. It's what's around that that's important. Hopefully with the update we will see more originality.
I'm loving this game too! Hear ya about the cliffs and have a little story myself... After my dic head friends took off with the boat and beer, I was left wandering around looking for trees to cut so I could make a fire. That's when I gazed up at the beautiful snow covered peaks and saw the cave. After a tedious and pretty technical hike, I finally reached the mouth of the cave and suddenly thought of my lovely wife, dogs, and home as I starred into the black abyss. Will I ever see them again? I must have been in there for a couple days. Luckily, I found some coal and was able to make some torches. I got lost at one point and thought I might die in there! Finally though...I saw daylight! Suddenly, my hopes quickly dissipated when I heard something stirring close by...something big...I had stumbled into a bears den! There was a strong pungent smell of decomposing flesh and bear poop that lurked in the staunch air. I went into sneak mode and revealed the not so glistening blade of my trusty stone machete. To my surprise, it was simple to kill the bears. i just severed their spinal cords when they weren't looking. As I walked out of the bloody cave my eyes adjusted to the welcoming rays of light. I had made it and it was well worth it. I pulled all sorts of resources out of that damn darkness! My fanny pack was bursting at the seems from all the iron ore. It was looking like I may just do more than survive, but maybe even thrive. Next, I had plans to settle down a little but wanted to find a better located cave to live in and craft some chests and furnace and whatnot but then, I fell to my death off a cliff and lost everything
That's great yes Anyone have an ETA on the next update? I'm super excited about all the survival elements! Where is the dev to give us some feedback? I'm ready to get deep into the hard-core survival experience. I might even play the Perma Death mode but maybe not at first XD
Of course it can! On a rainy morning i stumbled onto my window and looked outside. A heavy thunderstorm was going on. I was thinking "man, must be cold outside and it's so cosy and warm in here". But then it happened...a lightning strike hit a tree nearby my house and the fire went over to my wood house!!! I rushed outside and screamed out "ooooooh f******ck, my roof is on fire!" Half of my house was burned down because of that haha
Are there any groups or self help centres for the critically addicted miner? I think I have a problem... I'm thinking of turning my world into an adventure map of sorts with hidden signs dotted within the network of underground tunnels and lofty peaks. Perhaps hidden messages or clues to other signs and once ready posting a link here for you guys to explore. I'd like to explore your lands too, +1 to a thread with TA members' worlds and adventures... Anyone got similar plans for their world? Btw, once you get a bucket, don't let the giddying excitement over the new possibilities go to your head, I royally fudged up my beautifully uniform lake whilst experimenting, took ages to rectify... Water in this game has some bizarre quirks. Next up... Magma
8 wood blocks in a square --- In the game, there's a crafting encyclopedia. Tells you have to craft every item in the game
