Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #6 Rocksaint, Feb 19, 2021 I must say. I really like it. Doesn’t overcomplicate things. Knows what it wants to be. Wave-based roguelike zombie survival. I was kinda worried about the building/crafting part of the game. But to my relief, it’s quite simple and straightforward. The focus is more on the story and progression than being hardcore. And on mobile, that’s a blessing. MetaGonzo likes this. It’s not blowing me away or anything but I am enjoying it. I haven’t worked out how you know what each trap/ gun placement does though, am I missing something somewhere that tells me? The gun is obvious but the others not so much tops2 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2011 2,083 56 48 #12 tops2, Feb 20, 2021 Fun Archero clone to me. I like how there’s no IAP to upgrade what I’ve discovered so far. Only thing I don’t like as much is on the iPad mini 4, the load times a long..but at least the gameplay is smooth. I’ll try on my iPad Pro or my iPhone XR later. Rocksaint Well-Known Member Nov 29, 2013 666 367 63 #13 Rocksaint, Feb 21, 2021 Okay so after my initial positive impressions, I spent some more time with it. There are some glaring issues with the design choices in the game. 1. Like mentioned earlier, different characters/survivors are just a re-skin. Don’t add anything to gameplay. Feels like a missed opportunity. 2. Sandbag Barriers are pretty much useless. They are supposed to act as temporary blockades but they barely hold any zombies off. 3. Zombies do far too much damage. You can literally be two-shotted at times and be like, “Wait, where did all my health go?” This should have been much better balanced. Overall, this game has a lot of potential. It looks good, runs well and the core loop is perfectly suited for mobile. But I feel the balancing is off and it doesn’t respect the player’s time. Which can be very off-putting. I also have the impression there are some missed opportunities. And i also like what is already here. And i will add one point that is for me the most missed design choice: The game would accelerate to the next level with managing resources and money while on route in the map. Right now you only earn money during a run and spend it after the run is completed. But it would be so much more genius if you could save money and resources for every map and use the saved stuff on the next map of your route for defense structures. For example if you don't use any defense structure in the first 3 maps of your route, you can use all on map 4 or later. This should stack. So you get kind of rewarded for trying to win a map with only your gun. It would make all decisions much more strategic. Also the earned money should be useable during a run. Once your free stacked towers are depleted - you should have the possibility to buy a tower. Every tower should have a cost. And if you want to spend all money you earned in the run to buy towers - so do it. But then you wont have money to upgrade after the run. Everything should have consequences and lead to new strategies. Lull4by and Rocksaint like this. It is overwhelming to my health and all my gear and trap are max upgraded. seems to be a bug, and has shut down my ability to progress. tops2 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2011 2,083 56 48 #16 tops2, Feb 22, 2021 I guess for my playing style, I need to find the weapon for the current level, level it to max to have an easier possibility to beat the level. I'm on the 4th level. I guess I could go grind the first few stages for coins and to level the rest of the gear/items. The game has become a bit of a grind/bore to me as it feels like I'm on a treadmill without getting "stronger" in comparison of the current level I'm on. But I suppose its similar of games in the Archero style, but without the IAP in this game. The newer items I've unlocked seems kinda useless unless I grind out the coins to upgrade. I wish there would be some HP restore drops..but it may make the game too "easy". Otherwise its a decent time waster but after the first day or two, its lost most of the fun for me. I'll casually spend a few more days to see if I can beat the game without too much grinding. Lull4by Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2014 767 313 63 #18 Lull4by, Feb 27, 2021 You would get a skill on later levels that give you a few hp back once you kill an enemy, which is a game changer, get it ASAP if you are lucky. I’ve gotten to just grind and find path without the event (the “?”) path. Or play up to the ? and quit. I’ll try to grind some old levels so for now, not annoying me toooo much as I’ll try to play around this bug. On the plus side, finally beat the 4th level so can try the 5th level now...
