Would you believe that I've never managed to get a PC from a TA thread! Sorry to rant but 90% of codes are taken from window shoppers while the likes of me (and genuine Touch Arcadians) who would post a proper review on the TA thread and App Store constantly miss out. I've been wanting this one too, but my iTunes acc is maxed out. Nevermind! No more rants from me this month! syntheticvoid Well-Known Member Jun 20, 2010 14,504 124 63 Musician & factory worker. a[V-O-I-D] http://apparentsymmetry.bandcamp.com #7 syntheticvoid, Jun 16, 2011 no worries... I know exactly how you feel... I've missed out on MANY games that were on my wishlist, and they threw up PCs up here on TA... because of lurkers who just snatch up a code, don't leave a review, and don't have an account here, so they can't leave any opinions of the game... I really think all devs should give out codes by PM... but a LOT of devs giving out codes here are new to TA, and don't really know that lurkers end up taking at least 50% of all codes put up here... =o/ oh well... nothing you can really do about it... I've calmed down now and well and truly off my soapbox. Hope all the genuine Touch Arcadians enjoy the game! Peace out.. Appletini Well-Known Member Jan 8, 2011 2,564 0 0 Ankh-Morpork #9 Appletini, Jun 16, 2011 The problem with this is that while there are a few who are consistent with their reviews, the majority of TA members who get a code only post "Thanks!" or something to that effect, then never actually provide a review on the forum or their respective store. Even then, some of those who post reviews only ever seem to post reviews for the free stuff they get, clearly of the opinion that writing one or two lines semi-related to the product is a small sacrifice for not having to fork out any cash. Ever since I noticed people started making this argument I've been keeping an eye on this phenomenon and honestly, at this point, every time the above argument is made it comes across less as being a plea in the developer's interest, and more as a simple greed-based "Please make the giving of promo codes more exclusive so that the playing field is narrowed and the competition minimised so that I have a better chance of getting free stuff." There is actually a free version of this game in the store which, from the description, appears to be complete, but ad-supported. If so, that might meet your needs in the meantime. ^_^ LOLavi Well-Known Member May 23, 2011 8,364 0 0 iPhone gamer Finland #10 LOLavi, Jun 16, 2011 What if pc area would be TA users only? But there are some RARE games that are almost the full version, with a couple of ads... =oP As for the rest of your statement... I've really been trying over the last couple months, to post more reviews and opinions... I think I had 600 posts 2-3 months ago... but have been getting a LOT more active here lately... =oP And with promo codes, I think a lot of people don't know that if you get the game, check it out, and try to post a review in the appstore, you can so long as you don't wait longer than an hour or so of redeeming your code... they just see "you must own this game before posting a review" messages after trying to write a review the next day, or a couple hours after redeeming their code, and they figure they can't write a review for ALL redeemed codes... But I do see what you mean by people trying to make it less competitive... Really, I've accepted that there's really nothing I can do about it... short of paying someone to monitor these threads, and ban people who say "thanks" but don't write a review or post opinions from the PC area... which would just get ridiculous... there's been more than once I've nabbed a code, and didn't post anything but "thanks" because I went right back to whatever I was doing before I nabbed the code... Anyway... I'm sure we could go ON AND ON AND ON AND ON about it all... but it's not gonna change... I'm still VERY grateful there's this PC area on the forums... my kids have gotten quite a few games because of promo codes... and it's given me hours upon hours of quiet time in return... =oD Appletini Well-Known Member Jan 8, 2011 2,564 0 0 Ankh-Morpork #13 Appletini, Jun 16, 2011 Well, there are a number of recognisable members of TA - often vocal and high-post-counted - who tend to be pretty good about giving feedback. That said, we've seen so many stories from developers - even ones with decent apps/games - who have stated that they are barely breaking even, that honestly, buying a game is roughly infinity billion times more helpful for them than any number of positive blurbs about a copy of a game they didn't make any money off. :/ They always have an endless supply of recommendation quotes to poach from the forums, anyway, if their game is good. One of my flatmates just bought a PSP before heading to Australia for a week on holiday, and asked me to set it up for him and get him some free games to play on the plane. Going to the online PS store, I discovered that there were absolutely no free games, and most paid games were between NZ$20 and NZ$60 each. When we're usually paying between NZ$1.29 and NZ$4.19 for our games on the app store, it's a little insulting - and really, borders on the absurd - to complain that they're not free, or that they're too expensive. When a good game comes out for US$1.99/NZ$2.59, and somebody says that they're going to wait for a sale - or worse, asks the developer to put it on sale - I feel like slapping them.
