Doh! Did I post that on the iPhone thread? Crap. Need to pay more attention to which thread I'm posting to. But hey, every day behind us is a day closer to the imminent release on your system of choice, right? Here is an interesting bit unceremoniously ripped from Craigs twitter feed: "Solid eight hour (!?) playthrough of S:S&S EP by an uninitiated Capy designer resulted in an emphatically positive response. Encouraging!" Wow! Eight hours out of an iOS game that doesn't involve mindlessly hurling furious fowl at swindling swine? That is more than I could have hoped for. Surely, those that race for the end of the game will come up with less time invested than that. But, for those willing to carefully explore... this is great news!
This is a key point. You can race through it much faster... but if you invest, explore and enjoy, it can definitely be an involved game. I couldn't have written it better myself Erik!
That's a tough question to answer without some spoilers. All I can say is that you can power through it... or you can take your time and explore. I'm not keen to spoil so sorry for not answering too well
I'm still not sure with Sword & Sworcery will be like in term of gameplay. But the trailer is awesome I just can't help to anticipating the release.
I actually appreciate the non-answer. I think it's better to let people experience games like this for themselves than to dictate what to expect. I'm not sure the game play is something that can be holistically defined with S&S. It looks like its own kind of breed. To me it looks like a mash up of adventure, artful exploration, musical, puzzle, action, and 100% pure awesomeness. Anyway... I haven't seen it yet, but Bytejacker has an episode up that contains some S:S&S EP footage. It's from GDC, I think. For those interested: http://www.bytejacker.com/episodes/115
Best quote from his feed so far: "Some parts of this game have seriously given me chills they're so awesome." That is exactly the kind of thing I want to hear. I want to hear about it hitting that human chord and invoking emotional response. Perfect. Sooooooo stoked for this game.
I have an iPad that only I use at work, so I am going to buy an iTunes gift card and apply it to my employer's iTunes account and get the game as soon as it's available. Only one other employee uses a device assigned to the account so I'm not terribly concerned about it being an issue (I'm using it right now actually). This thread clearly sees more action than the one for the iPad version, so I'll post more here after the release. I've been lurking for a long time and finally registered. So psyched for this game.
Well, just be patient, many of iPad owners often need to wait longer for some games more often than us. C:
I'm looking forward to Sword and Sworcery, But Erik, I think you would actually like to marry this game
Haha, ikr, he's so pumped with this game I can't help but getting excited too! C: I even thought he's the developer once.
Welcome to the thread of Sworcery! And, were I in your position, I would do the same thing with the iPad at work. I would willingly work for the S&S team. That's about the highest compliment I can pay to anyone. Alas, I am already married (with children) but S&S is pretty hot! Alright, here comes the long winded rant on why I'm so keen on Sworcery. "Once a long time ago, I was a gamer. I was a little kid who loved games. I played a lot of games. And I feel like I’ve grown up - I’m a smarter and wiser and more experienced person now. Games are a lot bigger, but they haven’t really grown. They haven’t kept pace with me. As a player, I have this desire to be transformed, but I’m not getting it. At least, not most of the time. I get very frustrated by games. I’ll go to the store, I’ll buy ten games for $60.00 each. That’s $600.00. That’s a lot of money. And I’ll go through the stack and I’ll start playing them one at a time. And I’ll play them for about half an hour and then I’ve pretty much gotten all that that game has for me, because it doesn’t have anything fundamentally valuable to me that any other game hasn’t already given to me. I still love games, but it’s frustrating and I think that we can do a lot better as an industry." - paraphrased from Jonathan Blows Montreal talk. Say what you will about Jonathan Blow, but he nailed it right there. This sums up my feelings on the state of games perfectly. So, a long time ago I saw this screenshot of a crazy looking pixel chick holding a sword over her head on a hill with a dog at her feet and a sliver of the moon in the background. It really piqued my interest. It looked different in a very sincere way somehow, but also spoke to the nostalgic gamer in me. Then I started learning about Superbrothers. Ok, here is someone really sharp of mind who potentially shares my views on games. Then I saw his animated short films. Holy smokes! This guy is pretty talented! Then I learn about Jim Guthrie and start listening to his music. Wow! Talented and from the heart! I had already played Critter Crunch and Clash of Heroes, so I was familiar with Capy games and their well designed and artistically flared games. Then I put the three together in my head. What was forming was the potential for something amazing. I suppose I rather shamelessly promote this game because it seems to be designed around something I believe in, something special, and something I want to see more of. It is on a pretty short list of games that I actively pay attention to. Journey, Witness, From Dust, Portal 2 and a few others are also on the list. Pretty weird having never played the game before, right? But I seriously think S&S is poised to do something amazing that will really leave an impression on people. That is my best hope for the game. And if I can encourage even one person to get on board with these kind of ideals, buy these kinds of games, then we will all win.
