For the people arguing that 2g iPods are a few years old now, some people with 2g iPods bought it last year (8gb models), and so some of them arent even a year old. Not everyone is rich enough to buy a new iPod Touch in less than a year, not even a full year, so stop it. Plus, this is a 2d pixel art game, do you really expect full dynamic lighting, motion blur, anti-aliasing etc? Keep it simple, please.
Well, to my knowledge, isn't 100% pure pixel art. There are a lot of special effects used to create better atmosphere/mood/action, some of which may be limited on 2nd generation devices. But yes, 2nd generation devices aren't that old. I just replaced mine late last year myself.
Excellent! Want to experience those beautiful pixels at multiple levels of zoom-age. I guess that was a silly question. I was just trying to find a way out of the train wreck. Mr. Guthrie offered up an idea that I hadn't even considered yesterday. So, with the announcement of the iPad 2 yesterday, a neat little accessory was also shown. The Apple Digital AV Adapter. Plug in to your iPhone or iPad, attach to a HDTV via HDMI, and get a mirror image displayed on the big screen. S:S&S EP on an HDTV? At 1080 or 720P? Whoa. That could be kinda cool! Not to discount the personal experience the pocket sized method offers, but seeing it at a more cinematic level could be kinda groovy in its own right! I will have to look into that, at the appointed time! Man, who would have thought of S:S&S EP as a system seller, much less an accessory seller! That's NUTS (in a good way)! Anyway... anyone remember the iMuse sound system from Monkey Island? Instead of a static background music track, you got these multiple layers of sound depending on where you were standing and what you were doing in the game. I thought it was brilliantly done, especially for its day. I wonder if the music in S:S&S EP will work in a similar fashion?
I would be very happy to be proven wrong, but as I understand it the mirroring thing is iPad 2 only (and possibly the forthcoming iPhone 5). I think it has to be supported by the app to output on a video out interface (like already some games do with the component cable). So it's not automatic nor you can show a Safari web page on TV to your friends with an iPhone. And I wonder if with the new API in 4.3 every app can do this with Airplay and the AppleTV, without the need of a cable. Playing S&S on my iPhone and have it wireless mirrored via ATV on the big screen could be awesome. If possible I really wish every game would do this.
Ah crud. You are correct, sir. Apple carefully grayed out the "Mirroring supported only by iPad 2" on their product page. Hooo boy. New dilemma. To iPad 2, or not to iPad 2. Wasn't planning on it, honestly. Hrrrm.
I apoligize, I misread what you had wrote, you just came off as a dick at first. But no I don't remember them saying the delay for the game was because of older device compatibility, if it is then thats awesome. The reason I said the "mommy and daddy buying it for you" was because to me you seemed like a troll and trolls typically brag about how they have everything, and most of the time it's because their parents buy it for them. I'm a senor in high school and 99% of my money goes toward car payments/repairs ect. I don't demand that every game have 2nd gen support, but its nice Thanks for the offer to gift it to me, but I CAN afford that Looks like I should start saving for the iPod5 lol. Again sorry that I misjudged you, we cool?
i was in highschool too and had the same needs. i know your struggle and respect it. we are cool. it was never personal...and if you or ANYONE felt it was, i apologize. on topic: the game will be awesome!! i wonder how many locations we will traverse. after watching the youtube vid of toucharcade's go at it, i really liked how scrolling worked. when he swiped to the side, the moon disappeared behind the mountain. pretty cool effect.
I know this game isin't super heavy on combat, but the way he pulled his sword out was awesome! Erik or anyone who is working on this game could you tell us if it will support older devices? (I don't want to get into an argument again, just want to know)
Where once Jim Guthries "Let's Get In a Fight" was playing, it was seductively replaced by "Hug Me 'Til I'm Blue". We are all friends here in the house of S&S. Sheesh! Man, I could only dream of working on a game this cool. But, no, I don't work for anyone involved with it. Wish I did! Class act people, those. Jori, however, does work directly with the team and she just recently said right here on this very thread: "I'm pretty sure it will work on older devices, though it might not be as smooth. We'll be doing a lot of testing in that direction after the iPad launch." I'm not sure how far back that will carry. Perhaps as far as 2G?
I've gotta quit posting from work. I'm going to get in trouble. Think NINJA. Anyway, anyone interested in seeing some really awesome game goodness that had a hand in the influence of S&S should definitely check out Eric Chahi's "Another World" and "Heart of the Alien". As the TouchArcade front page suggests, Another World was announced for the iPad today. I think you can still buy Another World directly from Mr. Chahi's site for the PC. Might help pass the time until we can all get our greedy hands on S:S&S EP. And in light of the artistic debate we've had on this thread, from Mr. Chahi's talk at GDC today: "The real medium is the player's memory and imagination" - Eric Chahi Yeah, smart guy.
i played so much "out of this world" back in the day for the SNES. its the first game to make me break a controller. second game would be Flashback.....those two games are still more frustrating than super meat boy.
Haha! Yeah. They were tough. Getting warped back to the beginning of the checkpoint. Hoooo boy! But challenge is good, right? I just loved the story. To present that depth of a tale without saying a word... brilliant. And the rotoscoped animation? Pshh. Out of the park. Stellar games.
Theres been multiple requests to stay on topic in this thread. Please stop bringing up who can afford what device. This thread is not about that. Start your own seperate thread for that, if you want. How many reminders do you need? And the ongoing arguing between a handful of users is boring too. How about you pm each other privately.
Agreed. lets all just please get back on topic. And by the way erik, your answer was wrong. S&S will actually be MEGA SUPER AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
I stand corrected, sir! MEGA SUPER AWESOME it is! Hey folks. Here is a pretty nifty article from Kill Screen with a peek into Mr. Adams brainpan. It's a fascinating read. I'm telling you, guys - vision - this dude has got it. He is definitely one to watch in this industry. http://www.killscreenmagazine.com/articles/profile-craig-adams
Seeing Out of this World (a game which holds a special spot in my heart, a game that I periodically re-play once per year, each time loving every second of it even if I know every move and timing, water caves included) again mentioned besides S&S really makes the wait unberable.
