There's a survive-as-long-as-you-can mode, then individual levels that are like Hook Champ's but with no Chaser or other time limit. About 18 levels on release, which is lower than Hook Champ's. However, the levels are all as long as the longer Hook Champ levels... Hook Champ's early levels, in comparison, were only about half as big. You can't complete survival mode, but you can find tons of secrets in it.

We've been tweaking the main character's look. He's a cousin of Jake, in a huge adventuring family. We wanted to make him look somewhat reminiscent (related), but clearly different than Jake. We'll see what the opinion is of him in the next trailer.

This has been requested before. We'll try to cram this in for the release build.

Still shooting to do another big Hook Champ update, by the way. Though most of our update focus will go towards SQH, once it's out. Mostly because we made SQH's engine way, way more easy to make updates for than Hook Champ's engine.

Yeah. All the Hook Champ features I can think of are still in Super Quickhook. We should make this more clear.

the chaser was a good motivation for me to finish faster i never really cared about time trials...is there another reason to speed through the levels in SQH?

Achievements, unlocks. Most notably: There's four nightmare difficulty levels that have stronger unlock conditions.

Hooray! I don't want to divert attention from SQH, but Hook Champ is pretty much an obsession for me these days.

I think it would be awesome (in HC) to have a character with no hook upgrades - I've leveled up all the characters, and I've totally forgotten what it's like to play as a low-level character. You could make it jake's annoying little brother or something. And he could have a massive assortment of geeky bonnets and dunce caps.

Just dreaming out loud. Sorry if this seems like a greedy thing to ask for, Kepa. :p

Kepa, in your own opinion (unaffected by anyone else's), how will SQH do?

i think so...i think the first one was a precursor to how well this one will do.

Short of asking of a release date, is the game still on schedule? :D

Oh, ok. I'll compare it to Hook Champ.

SQH is basically a chance to do a lot of things we weren't quite happy with in Hook Champ, over again. The endless avalanche mode is a good example of something we just couldn't do in Hook Champ, due to engine limitations. Making a new engine (or in some cases, just a new game) lets us do a long list of improvements to Hook Champ:

    - Smoother framerate, with way more stuff onscreen.
    - More fluid gameplay thanks to the new floor slides and ceiling slides.
    - Way easier to add new levels in content updates.
    - Way more forgiving controls to new players (hook feels like a mix between the good parts of Bionic Commando and Hook Champ)
    - Much easier to add new gameplay modes as necessary (besides just Avalanche mode), we have something for this after release that I don't think many people will expect.
    - More visual variety per level.
    - Checkpoint system that lets us get rid of the frustrating punishment in Hook Champ (either starting the whole level over or having to walk slowly)

There's also just a general benefit of having experience doing this sort of game before. So, I think Super Quickhook will turn out pretty good.

It was. We're not still aiming for that. Early May, possibly Mid-May if we decide to cram in one last feature for release. I was sick all this week, so we're a little behind.

    New trailer coming this week.

Really like how the game is turning out, and honestly dont have a problem with how the main character looks. Just want to echo a complaint i saw earlier in the thread about the colour palette being to bland. Too much white mountains, with light blue sky, and white clouds while being chased by white snow(if you get the idea, this is just one area i know but the other seem to have similar problems). If this is SNES / Super Mario World inspired looks, it needs bolder colours to catch the eye. The actual look is good, but amp up the colours, the game needs to look as fun as it plays. Please note though, i do already enjoy the look.

Edit: also wanted to ask.. Hook Champ had a world map, 8 bit inspired, just wondering if SQH will have a world map also? It would be great to see one inspired by mario world in there, to continue on the influence. Or at least a 16bit style world map.

I'm buying this game as soon as it drops. Please don't price it at $20 cuz I'll spend it. :)

The colors and general look of the game is something we'll be tweaking right up to its release, I think. We'll also release more trailers up to the release, so people can comment on changes.

We're not doing a world map in SQH. Mostly to keep it easy to add new levels. We do want to do a world map for a future game, probably one that isn't planned to get quite so many updates.
