Quick Question (sorry if covered to death previously): How do the pros play this game? Thumbs down at the base of either side but use the pointer finger to guide the rope? Do people even aim the rope or just accept the default angle? I like the game but the controls feel so awkward to me. Much like walking and chewing gum, I have a hard time controlling my run, having my jump boots on the ready and swinging on my hook all at the same time.
I use my left thumb in the upper left hand corner of the screen to hook, and my left thumb to use the rocket boots. If I have to hook at a higher angle, I still use my left thumb.
I hold my iPhone in my left hand and use my right pointer finger to hook and rocket. I always aim my rope.
The only time I really ever run on some levels is before the starting line. I'll use my right index finger to run and my middle finger to jump to the right (a quick tap above the character to the right) and then I'll tap again with my right index finger to start swinging. I never run during a level after I pass the starting line.
Well I always used my left thumb for rocket boosts and right thumb for hooking. Worked for me. Got me to 2nd in eruption mode. *thumbs up
I hold the phone with both hands and use my right thumb to aim and hook, left thumb to rocketjump. This sometimes obscures a bit of the screen but it's what I'm used to. I never think about the default angle, though I'm sure I use it sometimes. Interesting to hear about others' approach to controls. Has the almighty qpawn revealed a crucial secret that will eventually lead to his downfall? No. No he has not. I might try the left thumb method for better visibility but I'm probably too stuck in my ways.
I just tried qpawn's hooking method and barely 8k points, but when I went back to my left thumb and default 45 degree angle hooking I got 17k and over 10 min (I could have kept going if I didn't get a phone call and lose my concentration). I guess the secret is to master your own strategy.
I'm pretty sure you're not gonna dominate immediately trying my method. My method works for me in the race levels and both endless modes. It feels casual to me. I can successfully play with my thumbs, but it's not as comfortable, especially since the screen gets blocked. The 45 degree angle method is not how I got my scores in either game mode. I've tapped to hook with my right index finger since Hook Champ. I've got a quick tap. My finger never blocks the screen ahead since my hand makes a reverse C around the right side of the screen.
I tried qpawn's way but I don't see any real advantage of holding it that way unless it's just what you're comfortable with. @qpawn: What I don't get is how you can be ahead by such large margins in ridiculous levels like 'Journey to Inn'. -.- Time to go finish my platinums...
It really comes down to keeping your momentum after each swing. Obviously, in the endless modes, it all comes down to whatever hand position keeps you alive. Quick tapping (or QuickHooking if you will) with my index finger works for me. One bonus with my method is getting high scores with my iPhone on the table and one hand behind my back. Me neither.
Oh, the mysteries of the world. Admit it: your hooking is so fast that you bend time in ways that no one can imagine.
