Can't wait for this update so I can get my elusive 'Taking the Plunge' achievement. >.< Thanks Kepa for (hopefully) fixing the achievement detection system.
Yeah, after a very bloody and intense talk, it was cancelled. There will still be small updates with bug fixes, small features and hats in SQH's future.
Will we ever get to know what the super secret 4th update was supposed to be? I was really intrigued by it
I don't see the problem of revealing what it was supposed to be, considering the situation. If Kepa posts that he has an issue with this post, it'll be gone in a heart beat. Highlight the text below to view if you want: Essentially, among other things I can't recall right now, each character was meant to have an "end level" of sorts. This would contain quite a bit of dialogue, and would be a slightly different kind of gameplay involved. A proper ending character-wise. Kepa can explain the details of why it was cancelled if he wants (and if he hasn't already). I hid the text because I'm not sure if everyone wants to know or if I'm able to release it.
Believe me. It did not go off dying without a fight. In the end though, the reasoning behind the choice was completely valid.
can't handle it i was so anxious to the 3rd and 4th update! well, i would pay for new content! i love SQH and HC so much great games! can't...resist...their...epicness...
Yea it's a shame there's no update 4, especially if it was gonna add a ton of story, but if this allows them to crank out more games it's totally worth it. We can just hope they revisit this cast of characters in a future game.
I honestly don't feel like this game needed storylines added, I think it's pretty much perfect as-is. And anyone complaining that the end product is somehow incomplete is ungrateful and a fool. If this thread devolves into whining about the "cancelled update," which was never even announced, simply because Metalbear decided to post about it, I'll be pretty upset, and I have a feeling Kepa will be as well.
Yeah, we had to cancel the plans for a "story mode". It was originally going to be a series of updates that would have gone on for months. Then it was shortened to just one big "boss level with endings" update that would have taken just a couple months. The problem, as clearly as I can state it: working on updates prevents us from working on new games. At this point I believe we've spent 6-7+ months on updates for HC/SQH. We could have had two more games out in that time. Updates also don't really cause us to see any increased sales or anything. We just make them out of enjoyment of our own games. Paying for more content, such as level packs: I'm still generally against this idea. I think level packs should be free. The only exception to this would be for huge level packs, basically "expansion packs". I'm not a huge fan of this idea, either. At that point, it's basically better to just do a sequel. New info on the next game in a few weeks. It's going to be a 99 cent top-down shooter (with lots of Rocketcat twists), featuring many RPG elements. World map to travel, 5 equipment slots to stuff loot into, and a story about wizards and explosions and hats.
Thanks for making that statement I guess.... Not the way I would have said it though. For the record, just incase you forgot, I'm the "ungrateful fool" from the beta group. Thank you for avoiding the level-pack situation. My wallet is grateful.
Honestly, I would prefer getting new games to big updates anyday, this game felt complete on release and only got better. But if we could have had another awesome complete game it would have been just as good a situation if not better.
