The coins do help at lower scores, but post 6k scores or so, they have less and less of a "luck" effect. After 6k, it really doesn't matter if you miss a coin secret here or there.

Eruption Mode (the harder sequel to Avalanche Mode) will be less dependent on hidden coins, however. Much less secrets will exist in Eruption Mode (though there will still be some, probably about 30% the amount), with coins mostly out in the open. It will be mainly dependent on just not getting killed by lava or acid or spikes or the ash-lava wall of death chasing you. I'll see if I can sneak in alternate paths (ones that aren't made mandatory by hidden coins). This will be in update 3.

The scores aren't going to reset again. Even that one wipe caused a few headaches, though mainly for testers. Basically, if they wipe the scoreboards you will not submit a new score until you beat your old one. It's why I still don't have a score submitted for Silent Well. Again, it was done once to clear the beta testers' scores with relatively low impact, but now that there are thousands of people on the scoreboards, it's not going to happen again.

    thanks mike

    To spork:
So the global scores will not reset like in HC? Feint and ingame scores will forever be the same?

It sounds like it might be a big cloud of ash but a huge wave of lava chasing you down would be pretty damn cool. ;)

Correct. The OpenFeint integration was patched into Hook Champ. Super QuickHook was built around it from the start.

Thanks for the response. I understand that the longer the run, the less affect coins have on the final score. However, as I write this, only the global top 14 have managed to crack 6k points (and maybe a few who don't have OpenFeint enabled.) This means that for the rest of us it feels like luck plays a big factor.

As my current high score is only low 4k, it'll take quite a bit of practice before this isn't an issue. But right now, if say, I decide to bet with a friend (also a casual player) on a single run, the outcome will largely be determined by luck.

actually, if you get all the coins, you could potentially double your score.

He was talking about coin generation, not whether or not he could find the coins. Probability averages things out the longer you survive.

We can't do much about Avalanche at this point. Feedback will influence how Eruption turns out, though.

By the way, welcome to the forum, Ares.

I had the same reservations as you did at first, but I ultimately accepted that any time there is a random factor in the level generation, you're going to get lucky and unlucky runs. If it helps at all, when you challenge someone to a duel in Avalanche mode you both get the exact same course, so if you and a friend were betting you could do so with duels and both have the exact same opportunities when it came to coins.

My highscore is only 2800 meters but if I remember right I got 80 or so coins(it was nuts tbh) i have beaten that length a few times but the score is alot less because of 50 or so coins. Just putting my experience so far into the bucket. I can consistently beat 4k now I just have to stop panicking when the avalanche is on screen and I will beat that dev score. Easier said than done for me.

I hate to ask, and I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, but I didn't see it within the 90 pages of topic here.

I'm a big fan of RocketCat Games, well, games...and bought Super Quick Hook on June 18th, which was the second day it was out, and within the promotional period to receive the 2 exclusive hats. At least I thought it was 2. RocketCat Mask and some top hat?

Regardless. I haven't had a change to play it until now, which is a few days later...started the game up, no notice that I received any hats. No problem. Started the game, ran through the first level, entered the shop and....they're not there either.

As far as I know, my iPhone is connecting via a WiFi hotspot, so it's possible it may not be the right type of hotspot.

That said, is there any reason if I purchased it on the 18th, that I wouldn't see the two exclusive early purchase hats in the store? IS there any way for me to fix that? Or what should I be doing?

Thanks again for any assistance, and apologies for any derailment here, but didn't see anywhere else to go for help on this.

I may be mistaken, but I think you had to actually boot the game up on the first two days. I don't think it can actually know when you paid for it, just when you first play it. So if you are only booting it up for the first time now, you may be out of luck.

There's been two errors with the hats. One is that we should have made it more clear that wifi access was needed for those first days. The other is that the window for the first hat ended a few hours earlier than it should. We'll definitely handle the early buy bonus the next game, because we'd like to do more substantial fan bonus stuff the next time around.

We might be able to do something about this retroactively in a patch, not sure.

one more question about losing special hats.
so... i shouldn't be updating to iOS 4 (currently 3.1.2 jailbroken) right? until a SQH update?

its fine to update. I am not sure about jailbroken, but my IOS4 on my nonjailbroken phone is working just fine.
