That's sort of what I noticed a while ago. The Avalanche seems to actually stop accelerating ~2000m.

EDIT: Crap, this is Nightmare13. Apparently my brother was signed in instead of me.

Ultimate Hook Champ is either the beat all dev scores one or the get all achievements one. Really both are on the path of the same goal, though, if you're trying to get the secret level.

    Yes.

It's based on time, not distance. The avalanche gets faster every X seconds until it hits a speed cap.

The new bugfix update is In Review!

strange, at some point, distance, it just jumps and does not matter how good was the run before.

Just played a quick game to confirm this and I'm pretty sure it works like this--

The avalanche's speed gradually increases until the 1 min 20 sec mark, where it picks up significant speed. At the 1 min 40 sec mark, the speed appears to increase slightly and remains there until the 2 min mark. At 2 minutes, the speed slightly decreases and returns to the 1 min 20 sec speed rate.

The speed remains at that rate thereafter.

On another note, sounds like we're pretty close to experiencing Rainbow Apocalypse now that Gnomey's availability is imminent.

    Personally I'm hoping for a 32 bit hooking game, then 64, 128 etc :p

But seriously I think kepa should keep up the hooking RPG franchise :)

yep u are right, that significant pick is a bit funny, but maybe because of frameskips.

Bingo. Except the 2 minute mark thing... the top setting actually happens at 1:40 and stays locked there until you die. I use the word "setting" instead of speed, because there's actually a bunch of different things happening up to 1:40. Off the top of my head, there's the avalanche's usual speed, then the "mulligan" speed that it goes to when it's really close to you, then a timer for how quickly the mulligan speed lasts and then how long it takes to reset. Besides that, there's also a "max distance" setting that decreases up to the 1:40 mark... think of it as a leash that prevents the avalanche from getting too far away from you.

I think Gnomey will be fairly rare, just because finding all the secrets requires you to unlock all the levels. A lot of people get stuck at Magma Ruins, it turns out. I don't want to decrease the difficulty of any of the levels, but I am dimly thinking about adding another checkpoint to the harder levels. This would make the minimum checkpoint amount 2 instead of the current 1. The only problem is that this will require me to go back and alter a lot of levels slightly, to support the extra checkpoint. Kind of a big undertaking at this point, but I'm definitely thinking about it.

We will. Except the next game (let's call it "Hatlord Mage" for now) will be a departure from the grappling hook genre. It'll be kind of like Minigore (though we're not using a dual stick control scheme) with adventure RPG seasonings (world map, storyline as you progress through the world, loot with multiple equipment slots). There will be little nods to the first Zelda game for the NES and also just how many boar killing quests there are in World of Warcraft.

After that, we're going to start doing story heavy hooking RPG games, but now with a focus on combat rather than racing.

Straight from the next update's What's New:

    1.32:
    - Bugfix: Gnomey should now be properly unlocked for users who have discovered all secrets!
    - Bugfix: Fixed a crash when playing as a hatless duck.
    - The requirements to unlock Eruption mode have been reduced. It can now be accessed after beating 3 nightmare levels.
    - Additional checks have been added to ensure that achievements you've earned are properly unlocked.
    - Additional stronger achievement checks for the bronze/silver/gold type achievements.

Can I still unlock Eruption Mode from just playing Avalanche Mode? I really would rather not bother with the scripted levels.

Yeah, Avalanche Mode-related alternate requirement to unlock Eruption was unchanged.

I still can't even break 2,000, but I need to know that prize is waiting for me at the other end and that I can still avoid the scripted stuff.

Ah. Must be the 'mulligan speed' kicking in that made me think there was a slight decrease at around the two minute mark.

The regular levels make for great hooking practice. Is there a particular reason you're avoiding them?

i think that eruption mode and avalanche are too similar to be called seperate modes..

But wouldn't it be weird to have 2 separate levels and the same name?

no like i mean i don't think it was neccessary to make eruption mode, since it is so similar to avalanche...i actually think avalanche is better anyways but that's just my opinion
