My point is, that it seems futile to complain about the game when you're only played the first free part. Reading this thread and reading reviews should be amble proof that the game is anything but easy and boring. It's full-blown Mario at his best, and, that being the case, it's cheap for what we get. As for playing with no Internet connection, I'd play another game, reading an e-book or listening to music until I've got a connection again, it really is no big deal.
SMR has used 200mb of mobile data. I have played a little on wifi but over 90 per cent has been played on my iPads mobile data connection. I don't know if that's a high amount compared to others but it is higher than I was expecting. I've hardly played at all yesterday and today so that usage is over five days. I have 15 gb of data on ioad a month and I know my play time will reduce over time, but if I was playing on my phone, I'd be almost hitting the 1gb of data a month if I'm using 200 or more a week on this game alone. It's not an issue for me, but can see why it would be for others. My data usage may be so high because of the constant crashing I've experienced in few days, if the game is dloading data on every launch it makes sense that more launching would equal more data.
I am back in the game peeps, I only need the black coins got 45 of them so only 75 to go. I sometimes delete a game and a few hours later I download it again ha ha, force of habits.
"Just play something else instead of the game you bought and want to play now" is not a good argument. You're forced to play something else because it stopped functioning. That is a big deal. You have to stop for no reason... You aren't annoyed when you get interrupted for no good reason? Do you see my point about this? What I do is never buy anything that doesn't work. I bought it. It's supposed to work. It's not working: it's broken... This is intentionally broken. #
Shaun, you're one of my favorite game reviewers. I often like a game a little more or less than you did, but almost always find your reviews very accurate regarding the facts about a game, as well as your understanding of the developer's intent. In fact I usually feel like I've gained a better understanding of a game after reading one of your reviews, even if I've already played it. This review was the first time I've actually had a quibble with you about your understanding of the game designer's intent. You refer to collecting the special coins as "post-game", or "additional challenges", as if they aren't an integral part of the level design. To me though it seems obvious that the levels are specifically designed around collecting the special coins, and that collecting them is meant to be the main challenge of the wold tour mode. The fact that it also lets you just go for the flag without collecting coins is basically just an "easy mode" for when someone can't or isn't in the mood to try getting the special coins. A lot of my favorite games have a similar design. For example, Leo's Fortune has a very generous checkpoint system, so it's fairly easy to muddle your way through all the levels with lots of deaths. This is a nice option to have if you just want to see the whole level or aren't in the mood for high stress. If someone played through the whole game that way, they would probably find it pretty unchallenging and short. However it seems clear to me that the main challenge and satisfaction of Leo's Fortune is meant to come from learning each level well enough that you can make through without dying. When you do that, then it's a very challenging game and lasts a long time. I think SMR's tour mode design has a similar intent. Even if you agree with me on the above, I'm not suggesting it would change your feelings about the game. It seems clear you find the special coin collecting to be more frustrating than fun. I just think it would change the way you described the game. If you agreed that collecting the special coins was the main point of the tour mode, then instead of saying tour mode is really short, you'd say tour mode takes a long time to complete, but certain aspects of the design make it overly frustrating. If that's what I'd read in your review, then I'd have the same feeling I often have about your reviews, where I feel like we completely agree on the facts, but maybe have different subjective feelings about the game. The fact that you often have different subjective opinions than me is actually part of what I like about reading your reviews. It's mentally stimulating and I often end up seeing a game a little differently.
This game is nice, but I miss more online worldwide multiplayer. What I mean is like Mario Kart 7 and 8 combined with Mario Party 10 That would be so epic, like minigames inside the actual game. This will certainly bring more players into the game. If anyone remember Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, I'm talking about simple but fun online minigames like those
Ive thoroughly enjoyed this game, and got my moneys worth due to the nostalgia factor. I even got my 3year old kid to play a little, so he has met mario for the first time now. Ive put the game down, and will likely delete it, due to the frame rate drops in rally mode. The frame rate drops at critical times, such as when you get power ups, are in the middle of monster jumping combo, or when a coin combo starts. Theres a jump I cant do 9/10 on the airship level when there are multuple little platforms. I can do it easily when the games runs smoothly, but when the frame rate chokes then the entire run is over. Im playing on a fairly congested ipad 4 16gb, that I dont want to format again just yet. Sadly this frame rate frustation outweighs my enjoyment.
Great game, having a blast getting all the coins, but Toad Rally taking my Toads when I lose is still way too cutthroat for a casual game, ha ha!
Pay 10$ for a wifi locked auto runner type game yea no .. offline yea sure if I had spare money.. For now That money can go for something that's worthy .. Like RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic .. Super Mario Run is popular only due to its brand name.. It's like Sims Freeplay is only Popular Due to its a Brand Name as well.. Meh within a few months the hype will dye down just as what happened with Miitomo ..
I regret buying it now. I think it's worth the money for some people but its too monotonous for me and I guess I lost all my old school skills. I do ok on the levels and got all the pink coins but I absolutely HATE HATE HATE the rally runs. I keep losing my peeps and its frustrating as hell. It makes me not even want to play anymore. Plus for a paid premium game I shouldn't need tickets to play a section of it...even if they are in abundance. I guess my gaming preferences have changed now that I'm older. This isn't something I'll ever play again.
I'm literally sitting on 93 tickets right now having played the game since the second it was released and don't have to do anything but log in every 8 hours to get 15+ tickets. I know you said that they're in abundance, but they REALLY are.
Unlock Peach or Luigi and play the airship levels. Easy wins and you get all colors. I personally go with Peach. My highest score is 864. I'm happy with my purchase. Fun game. Just have 6 more levels of black coins to find.
Dang it, anyone else thought they would have received something from the Christmas tree or snow globe this morning?#
Got all the black coins, unlocked everything, and I haven't lost a Toad Rally in probably 50 runs. I've hit "the wall" that I was hoping didn't exist in this game, but at least it was worth $10.
This is a great game. Been playing nonstop both the Tour and Rally! Lots to do and unlock so Build is even fun. They keep adding little things and I don't have to worry about freemium bs getting in the way. Can't wait to see what's next.
I'm enjoying this game much more than I thought I would, considering I've never owned a Mario game before and I was really bad at them when I played at my friends' house... I really like the rally too, losing doesn't make you lose that many toads and when you unlock the 3 yellow bonus house and the 2 bigger "?" blocks you get almost too many tickets.... The required internet connection doesn't bother me at all, so many games require it anyways, this is 2016 guys.. And I've got 4 Gb mobile data per month, as smartphones are internet greedy... Just browsing the Appstore daily when I used to ride the bus used like 500 Mb per month. If they don't add more content by the time I max out rally mode and complete World tour (will take a while), I'm soooo getting the old Snes Mario games on my WiiU!!!!
Attitudes like this is why it keeps happening... "They're going to put stupid pointless restrictions on us, they always do, I'll buy it anyway and ignore that that's why they keep doing it." This is ridiculous. Why do people just completely ignore it like it won't get worse? And defend it, somehow? It's managed to get to this. Why? "It doesn't bother me, why should it bother you?" Your logic does not make sense. And if it doesn't bother you, why would you care if it was gone? So why are you even wasting your time defending it? ##
