What we're talking about doing for v1.04 is splitting each adventure up into a more 'banded' thing. As it stands, each adventure will pick monsters that are somewhere around your level. Whilst this means that, for the most part, you should always have a relevant challenge there, it does mean that you can miss monsters. Also, in this case, you've levelled beyond the monsters' capacity to keep up with you. So we'll split them up into a series of adventures. They won't scale with you but you'll be in control over what level of creature you're facing. That means that you won't miss any - rarity notwithstanding - and will be able to hunt more specifically, Essentially, it's re-creating the whole first game within the second.
As already mentioned in this thread, a description of what items actually do, available during battle, would be much appreciated.
Just finished my first playthrough and I have to say - it was a ton of fun. I really enjoyed the evolution of strategies as you unlocked all of your capabilities. I was playing at least three completely distinct ways in the early, middle and late game. Cheers
Bug -- I completed the unicorn breeder's final quest(? -- at the mountain) without talking to the crafter first, and I didn't get the quest reward I was supposed to get. Now I'm trying to figure out a strategy to deal with the bigbad... hoo momma. Don't have much money at the moment so I think I need to grind to get my backpack in shape. His Intimidate is a real annoyance. I sold my mercenary item when I got it -- what does that do? Damage + some sort of stun effect?
Interesting. Can you check the shop and see if the Horn of Summoning appears there? Although, don't click on it as, thanks to a whole other bug that is fixed in v1.03, that won't work. The Mercenary Contract is a one-shot, single-target, high-critical-chance attack. That you can buy from the shop, but the text will be wrong. Again, see v1.03.
Bulk Paint, Just curious, were you ever able to beat the "Dragon Shrine" level without using any potions and with using only a newly generated character (that is, no carry-over items or powers)? I had thought that, with enough restarts, one can eventually get a winnable configuration. However, in one playthrough I had in which I had a 90% health bar left facing the last round with three guardians, my character still gets killed because the guardians all have a 100% hit rate, each dealing a fixed and significant damage so that they together exceed the entire health bar (as far as I can measure the drop with each hit).
It does. I want to say that appeared in the shop earlier, when I got a robounicorn horn as an earlier quest reward...
I wasn't, but if it's possible, it will be more likely in v1.03 as we've reduced the likelyhood of the Guardians doing their Impale attacks. You're still facing a 3-to-1 attack ratio, but at least you're not dealing with the stacking Bleed. Of course, 'no potions' and 'newly generated character' doesn't rule out Adventure grinding. Going in around Level 10 or so would make it a whole lot easier.
Good point. I forgot to say earlier, as expected, that there should be no grinding. In story mode, I think grinding is a sortof cheat that I don't like to do. Doing do without grinding, in a way, is to test the game's core balance.
Thank you for the kind compliment. >p Bulk Paint, I will wait for v1.03 to test it out... As you said, no point banging my head against a brick wall. Yes, I might eventually break the wall, but not without a severe concussion.
Oh yeah, while I remember - those of you who said you'd wait until the price went back up? Well, it's back up and thank you very much! In a while I'll let you know what we're planning for the festive period.
Bulk Paint, Have you since discovered any more quests (story or optional) that require some additional rebalancing after the Dragon Shrine quest?
Not really, although the Vespids and Zombies are coming in for a bit of hatred because they require a completely different method of playing.
And here was me wondering where all our ratings had gone - it's v1.03 people! It's live! Fixes a whole bunch a stuff (and probably breaks a whole lot more). Go get it! Fly my pretties!
My wife sends her appreciation for the latest update, as it has also added iOS 6 compatibility. She greatly enjoyed the first game and is looking forward to giving the second a go now that she can use it.
Want to hear about how we made the game? Here's a talk that Leanne and I did over in Norway last month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4jO0ODO4EQ&feature=youtu.be
