Secret levels!! Just completed the time trial for dungeon 1. Whew. Must hunt down the hidden level... Edit: Found it! Completed it...those spears though, oof.
Without giving it away, can you give a clue on how you found? Are there walls you can walk though? Edit: found one!
What a fun game. I like when I can finish a game in a reasonable amount of time! Finished the grass time trial with no deaths. Then failed miserably on the next time trial. 23 deaths I think. Cool that there's a well-made platforming game with a light story, then if you want more you can race through the individual temples or the entire game. Bravo, Jussi Simpanen!
The reason this game is not a metroidvania is that this game is actually a remake of a game that came way before Tiny Dangerous Dungeons. Super Dangerous Dungeons is a complete remake of my very first flash game Dangerous Dungeons, you can check it out here: http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/4102 SuperDD is not a sequel to TinyDD. In a way, it's actually TinyDD that's sequel to this game. if I ever make a new DD game, it's most likely going to be a metroidvania again though. This game was originally just going to be Dangerous Dungeons 2, but then I figured why make a sequel for unknown little flash game, and decided to just completely remake the original, so when I start working on a true sequel some day, people actually know the series and what to expect.
Awesome game! Just beat it and got all the hidden treasures # Paid for the IAP (remove ads) now on to the time trials! I hope to see Timmy in a new (mobile) adventure again. ## Perhaps Advanced Dangerous Dungeons(?)
It didn't click with me and yes, it does feel odd, unfortunately. I only got in a good platformer flow while climbing or descending, super responsive stuff. But all those little jumps in those narrow corridors...i won't even try any speedrun. Btw, again a game where the time starts right after loading. It always should be up to the player to start the time, imho. Possible secret levels spoiler: Spoiler I finished the game with only one found level. Instead of the last boss fight/run, i entered the hall of fame (some like that). The four pictures you'll see, one of each world, indicate the entrance to the levels. I guess i need all four levels to open the final door to the last boss PS: i'm happy i supported a very talented developer, and i really hope we'll see something bigger AND longer as his next game.
Pleeeaaasssseeeeee!!!!! Seriously, I hope you keep cranking these out, they are like gaming meth to retro gamers. I'll happily send you $2 and hopefully you'll get enough support to warrant another project. Best of luck and thanks for these two beauties!
Not sure I agree that the slipperiness is unplatformery. i used to do that turn the moment you land thing to slow down and gain some traction back in the original Mario (and especially the even more slippery Japanese version). And what's more platformery than Mario? Great game and a big improvement on Duke Dashington. Somehow second in the grass leaderboards behind Andy on my first try (of course behind Andy...the only thing he didn't come first in is a competition to see who can't come first). I imagine anyone else who gets through that with no deaths and coffee breaks could beat me, though.
Up to level 9, at times there is a Traps and Gemstones vibe but as the levels progress it's more of a 774 Deaths feel to it. The controls work great. The levels are bite size and although easy at first they get quite challenging in a small amount of time. Hope more levels get added at some point.
I've also been a beta tester for this game and I just love the idea with the hidden levels, especially since they are cleverly integrated into the normal levels. This made going back and searching for them a lot of fun. And the last level was soo hard, but so rewarding once you finally pulled it off.
I was thinking the same thing. The controls feel very much like Super Mario Bros. I know this because I have to stop myself from throwing my phone at the wall while I'm playing. I used to get so frustrated with Mario back in the day, but I loved it and I'm feeling the same way with SDD. Very challenging but possible. Good game Jussi.
I understand a lot of people made a huge hype For this game and I bought into it. One thing it has going for it is it's free. The level designs are good. The Zelda character design is nice. The jumping is off making this the only difficult part of the game. Some levels are more Difficult making it fun. 3.5/5 stars reccommend. Actually I'm giving 4 stars for free
The only thing i can think of that could improve this game, is MFi controller support. The game is already perfect as it is (i didnt do speedruns even) and i think being able to play it hands-free off the device screen would be pretty sweet.
