SCB is fantastic and I think I have to give it the edge. Since getting it I've mostly stopped playing Muffin Knight even though I like that game a lot too. I had never played SCB before. Mind you, I have an iCade, and had I not I probably wouldn't have been so taken with it initially. However, since learning to play with iCade I now find I can play pretty well on my iPhone too, so even the virtual controls have grown on me (though not on iPad where the controls are inexplicably reversed, which is maddening - hopefully they change that). I think SCB is a bit more addicting, in part because it's so ridiculously fast paced. It's easy to find myself playing game after game, trying to get a better score. MK has that too, but SCB takes it farther. Plus, even though I never played it before, I'm certainly aware that SCB is the original. So while it's not nostalgia, there is a recognition of the original there.
I just was thinking that SCB and MK should cross-polinate. Would love to see SCB characters and enemies in MK and vice versa.
I dont have the retro gene, at all, in any fashion. Sure I grew up on Atari 2600, but that level of graphics now screams "garbage" at me, and I simply cant look past it. To me, lacking the retro gene, this poll is something of an absurdity It surprises me greatly that so many people do have the retro gene.
It all depends on how you view graphics/design. To me a game like Shadowgun is pretty, but lacks life and personality. You could easily make the make a case in the other direction. As far as the poll being an absurdity due to a retro gene/nostalgia, I'd have to respectfully disagree. A lot of people, including myself, said that MK didn't have the fast paced, hardcore action they were looking for.
OR have a different opinion. This might come as a surprise, but not all of us humans are the exact same. Really don't understand why some people can't respect others' opinions, sad. (I'm not pointing any fingers) Honestly, I'm quite surprised to see SCB winning. I kinda had it figured more people liked the newer graphics.
So "none gamers" are the ones who prefer 8-bit graphics and more challenging gameplay, and hardcore gamers are the ones who like cute 3D graphics and gameplay that holds your hand all the way through. Good to know!
Atta boy, call 60+ people retarded. Then cram a bunch of spelling/grammar errors into a couple of sentences to add that ever-present ironic element when people insult the intelligence of others

After spending several hours with SCB, I tried MK again and got bored fairly quickly. MK takes the basic formula of SCB and adds an RPG-like element to it and updates the graphics. This isn't bad per se, but SCB rewards you for playing better. MK rewards you for playing longer, so it really starts to feel like you're grinding for unlockables, perks, and upgrades. I can see the appeal of MK to a more casual player, but it doesn't really compare to SCB for me.
In terms of unlockables, SCB now rewards playing longer as well as there are total crates and and total kills character unlocks.
SIX frontpage articles from TA for SCB in just the past ONE month (since 12/08/11). Even JJ, S&S, and IB 1/2 didn't get this kind of attention from TA, meh.
the truth is, MK was better but now it is completely unplayable. it's all laggy and choppy. so i had to resort to SCB, which runs on a high framerate. but when (if?) they fix the framerate issues, i'm back to MK some might not think so, but this is also a pretty good single-screen platformer Bloo Kid Winterworks, GmbH Retro-style platformer with cute pixelart, chiptune soundtrack and challenging levels! A part of SCB's attention is presumably the empathy TA feels toward Vlambeer, for getting two of their indie games "ripped off". (Ninja fishing, MK). But still, it's a part of the media industry, I don't understand why they are getting special attention for the "copies". Not the gameplay, but the "experience". Muffin Knight is focused more along having fun and enjoying the gameplay, and a little more arcadey fun. Super Crate Box is more extremely hardcore and difficult, but extremely satisfying. Both are amazing games. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
