A few quesstions on SCB the most awesome game on my iOs

    Dear Vlambeer,

I'm so glad I found this thread in Touch Arcade as I had been searching all over in an attempt to find updates from you. Really glad to see that you are working on the new update and introducing "her" as the new character.

Just a few questions and I apologize if these questions had been answered before.

    1. Is the ninja removed? I unlocked the Ninja by obtaining a score of 20 in ambush mode and able to view my achievement from open feint. But I can't see the ninja anywhere in my stats page. :(

    2. I can't seem to unlock the 3rd character. (The dude with the afro) It appears to still be a silhouette in my stats page. Any help?

    3. Is it Bazooka or Rocket Launcher as the one available for download on the PC address the gun as Bazooka.

    4. Will new weapons be introduced in future updates?

    5. Will you introduce updates frequently?

Apart from these questions, I truly enjoy SCB especially unlocking characters! :D

Once you look past the fact that this is the esteemed original, and the art style (for those who prefer big blocks. Personally, I usually only appreciate pixel art when used in a context where it contributes to either gameplay or the theme and mood of the game), Muffin Knight actually seems to be the better game, in spite of its blatant copyist nature (something that indeed is hard to overlook).

Why do you fellas prefer SCB, once the novelty of primordiality has worn off?

Muffin Knight no doubt has added a lot of mechanics into the pick and shoot platformer such as special abilities, level ups and even tonnes of levels, however SCB has a smoother control and definitely a great appeal to retro gamers out there.

I love the pixel art in SCB. SCB is a superior game to Muffin Knight mainly because of the minimalistic gameplay and it got me hooked for hours. Although Muffin Knight has better graphics, I never played Muffin Knight any longer than 30 minutes.

Someone else said it best a ways back: Muffin Knight rewards you for for playing longer. Super Crate Box rewards you for playing better.

It's unlocked, but we made an error and its slightly right of the stat page on the top row. You can select it that way or by enabling random character select (tap the selected char)

Connect to the internet and it should unlock now 40,000,000 crates are collected.

Oops. I think we'll leave it this way, though.

We do not know, we'd really need to test that kind of things, but at this point no new weapons are planned.

We hope so - we'll be working on Ridiculous Fishing & some other projects too, but we have plans for Super Crate Box that, as long as the game keeps us buying food, we'll be able to support it :)

If we have to explain it to you, you'll never understand.

You know, of all the rhetorical techniques used through history (and there have been quite a number of silly and embarrassing ones), this one is probably the least effective, and few reflect as badly on the speaker (especially seeing as the two fellas quoted below do a damn good job of explaining it so that I can understand) :D

In spite of being old enough to have played most of the games new retro titles hark back to, being retro is rarely a selling point for me, perhaps for that very reason ;) I do get what you say about the controls, and just the overall... feel of the game. That is, perhaps, what originals often do better than clones.

    That's a durned good argument!

it seems maybe so, but the performance sucks in mk, not only because it lags but because it lags like spikes and the char and enemy still move. and also pricing of upgrades where you need to reach more than level 100 in order to upgrade everything and this with presence of iap for upgrade points.

    Thanks Vlambeer!

Hey Vlambeer, appreciate the fast and kind feedback. I selected ninja and just realized that it was hidden well right next to the chicken :p

As for the 3rd character. I've connected to the internet and still no unlocks for me. Do I have to update SCB? But my appstore do not seem to detect any new updates for SCB.

I've seen Ridiculous Fishing and I think it will do well but I'm definitely the greatest fan for your well-polished product - Super Crate Box! Do hope to see Super Crate Box having updates more frequently and make it to the top minimalistic retro gaming app of the year!

Also hoping to see you an your team bringing new features such as Multiplayer and even new maps. Cheers!

SCB is much more addicting to me because if I die then it's because I messed up and I have to try to beat my high score again, and again, and again, and again. It's faster paced than Muffin Knight and the controls feel tighter.

To me Muffin Knight, while obviously taking a lot from SCB, doesn't feel like a reskin, it feels like a totally different game. It's better suited to the casual gamer and you progress with an RPG type upgrade system which to me feels a bit like grinding because I'm not as interested in getting that high score as I am in unlocking that next character or upgrading my weapons and such.

I can understand why someone would like Muffin Knight more than SCB I guess if they are not hardcore gameplay or retro graphics, but for me I think SCB is a much more compelling package, and will probably be the game I go to for quick play sessions for some time yet.

I think MK is a fun game too. One problem I have with MK is that while the graphics are certainly a lot nicer of course (and yes I realize SCB is retro by design, and I like it's look too, but hopefully you get what I mean), the graphics in MK are also much busier. It's not unusual that it takes me a while to even realize where the next muffin is because it blends into the background so much.

I deleted Muffin Knight pretty quickly. It's cute but gets boring soon. SCB feels completely different. Much more frantic, way way more addicting. Seriously, to me it feels like a different game. Right now, it's the game I start up the most. Quick spare second left? SCB! :)

Frankly SCB is just (for me) a much better, "to the point" presentation of this genre. Yes I like the reto art but mainly it's the simple straightforward presentation I like the most. It's just you, monsters and crates. Let the mayhem begin!

MK just has too much stiff tacked on, a lot of which I found really unneeded and broke the action up too much. I'm glad that MK exists, especially for people who may not understand the appeal of SCB.

    For me, it's SCB FTW!

    Eloquent enough for you? :p

Ok so I just got my 4S yesterday and played this. It is infinitely easier on a newer/faster device, also I saw no more skipping platform but. I havent even unlocked every weapon and on my 2nd try I got 123 crates (93 on the 1st try, and my 2G record was 58).

We'll be submitting the update on monday, so hopefully it'll be available before the next week is over. Maybe the week after. We'll see!

New characters with crazy unlocks, hitbox collision fixes and a few nice surprises that might only become clear over time. :)
