Has anyone figured out how to do that "jump and shoot" maneuver? I can't seem to get it! I thought you just slid your finger from jump to shoot?
Ah! I will have to try that. You can do this easily with the iCade, but it wasn't easy with virtual controls. I'll try this technique next time I play.
The premise is as simple and basic as a game can get. Game play can last seconds to minutes and provides that sorely missed "arcade" feeling! Extremely well made and functional. Add to that some serious developer support and you have one of the best games on iOs for a dollar! Well done!
You can't on an iPhone, but you can on an iPad. Just turn it into portrait orientation. This is perfect for the iCade. For use handheld, though, I find it kind of cumbersome, so when playing handheld I use landscape.
laughable because he compared it to a game with more content or cause the controls didnt work great for him? i see nothing wrong with the review. lucky they didnt go in on the shoddy hitbox problem.
I don't think Slide to Play is alone - I have friends who hate SCB and like MK, and it's because of the controls which they struggle with, and the lesser amount of content. I think at first I wasn't sure about SCB either, but it grew on me a lot and now I love it. It won't grow on everyone, though.
Yeah that was a pretty horrible review, clearly Tim is spoiled by the pandering to the casual players found all too often in the App Store... I swear most iOS gamers should just stop at Angry Birds.
On one hand there's too much "Muffin Knight" mentioned in the review (it's a review after all, not a comparison) and on the other...the words "extremely difficult". I'd love to see this Tim fellow review Super Meat Boy. Oh wait...since Meat Boy's actually in SCB now, I guess the term "guilty by association" comes into play and that warrants a 2/4 too, right? Honestly, they should've waited to play and review v1.1 before posting the review online.
I've played this too much on the ipad and now that I'm playing it on the iphone more, I'm not finding the controls as intuitive. I personally think the L/R buttons need to be nudged over to the left more, and there is too much dead space between the two buttons. Additionally, jump sliding to the fire button so you can jump max height while shooting works better on the ipad with the offset button layout.
Honestly I think SCB still needs improved controls, so I have to knock it a star for that. I think the game is getting a bit overly praised by most (especially Touch Arcade with their claim of spot on controls and such - I still struggle with the iPad button layout), but it is a lot fun once you catch the bug.
What they need is the option to move the buttons anywhere the player wants. The controls seem to work fine for most people, but until the player has complete freedom to tweak them not everyone will be happy.
