Whaaahhhaaaa.... iCade supported! thx devs!! course now the question is if anyone knows how to change the button mapping. lol UPDATE - nevermind. There's 2 buttons to shoot and 2 to jump.
Whoa, a lot of posts since I last posted, But as far as the MK Vs. SCB discussion, I think it really depends on the gaming style of the one playing. Those who (like me) like fast-paced extreme-to-the-point-of-frustration difficultly, retro pixel art, that just-one-more-try appeal and just a quick pick-up-n-play game for when you got a few minutes a day to kill, are probably going to like SCB. Meanwhile those who like the unique level up system, more modern graphics, quirky style and storyline, the generally easier and more arcade-like experience of MK, are probably going to like MK more. As for me, like I said a couple pages back, while both are fun, well-polished games, I tend to like SCB for the qualities I mentioned above.
Thanks for the measured reply. You make many good points. I appreciate a difficult game, but what is frustrating to me and presumably others is the extreme difficulty of SCB. At least they could have multiple difficulties: the current one labeled "Normal" and some easier ones for the rest of us labeled "Sissy" or something equally funny and insulting. Then players like me could perhaps get to see some of the other maps and you would have a lot less negative iTunes reviews. Otherwise, I believe those reviews are somewhat justified since the app store description fails to mention bone-crushing difficulty ;-).
I'm not typically a fan of this genre but for a buck wanted to support the developer. Glad I did, I find SCB much more fun than I thought I would! It's like the post above me says, clean, simple retro mayhem. I admit I suck at SCB, I average about 5 crates a game but I have fun failing, a sign the developer got the formula right. I played MK for a while but never really got into it. I think there is plenty of room for both in AppStore as they appeal to different players (as stated above too). Anyone on the fence, drop a buck, I bet you have fun like I do even if this type of game hasn't really appealed to you before. In closing, yeah I'd like to be able to fire and jump, but really it kinda adds to the mayhem when you can't so it's not a game killer for me.
The game isn't that diffucult.. Practice is key. At release i constantly died with a score beneath 10, now i get scores of 60 and up. Ohh ofcourse a good strategy helps
I am still averaging about 5 crates with a high of 8! I have spent too much time bumping my head already. I think I just suck at this game, but I do not regret spending my buck on it at all. The problem is the vast majority of players will probably be like me :-(
It has been said before: run like a madman towards the crates, ignore the baddies until it gets hectic. Then clean the screen, and run for the crates again. -- not that I'm getting much better scores, but at least my max is 14 or 16
Keep with it. I averaged 5-9 crates for my first 2-3 hours of play. Now I usually die with at least 12-18 crates in hand, no less. As you unlock bigger and better weapons (katana, grenade launcher, minigun, etc), your work becomes somewhat easier. A tip many new people may not know: if there are several enemies on screen, focus on clearing them out from the bottom areas before going for the next couple of crates. Once an enemy hits the fire, he respawns on top as a red bastard who runs at triple speed. Favorite weapons: Minigun, Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher, Katana, Revolver Crappiest weapons (IMO): Dual Pistols, Disc Launcher, Standard Pistol
I hope they DON'T add easier difficulty options. SCB is pure arcade rush! ...It's simple but unforgiving, so playable by all. Not everyone has to like it, but I think it's ridiculous to 1 star it for being 'too tough'. 90% of games are too easy, and chasing high scores becomes more about who can play longest before getting bored. This is brutal pick up and play, among the best I've played. 34 crates is my best so far, and I've put in around 5 hours - 69p bargain if you ask me!
This game is not as simple as it looks at the beginning There is some things that player had to know: - 'green' monsters falling into a fire are reappearing as 'angry reds' from top again -> key is to kill all greens by yourself then game is easier. - every weapon is unique, balanced, and there is no 'bad' weapons. Great designed piece of game! It forced from us to use some strategies, not only "Blow everything up" I'm simply impressed by this game... And I admit that I didn't play it on PC/Mac ( I wanted to but always 'something' stopped me )
The Disc launcher can be so useful with practice, though my suicide rate with it is still pretty high Revolver is immense, easpecially for clearing the screen. Tip (most will know) - When you get the Laser Rife, you can kill enemies with it whilst it's charging - that small yellow beam that emits when you press fire causes instant death to the bad guys. I've started relying on that more than the actual laser blast, especially if the screen is hectic.. timing the laser can be tough.
How does adding difficulty levels damage the game for you? They can have separate leader boards. The point you seem to miss is it is not currently playable by all. Not everyone is so hard core. The one star reviews are totally justified. I have probably put in 5 hours too and I am not that good. I also have the possible advantage of playing on an iPad. The tips posted here may help a bit, so I will give it one more try.
It personally does more damage for me than good Another interesting strategy... if you have the Mines equipped and are jumping over the fire pit below, drop one down and it'll appear on the top of the screen (where enemies spawn). Helpful if a couple of red minions are about to spawn
It's already been said but every enemy you don't kill will return stronger. The best thing you can do is killing all enemies who are blocking your way and the enemies which are at your platforms and the platforms beneath you. With this tactic you won't get surrounded by monsters
@KiddToKmart Not only mines: grenades and flames from flamethrower could also be used that way It could help, but it is not as deadly as it seems.
Some help for those who have issues with disc gun. Use it like a weapon you can only use if you jump shoot. Stay a level below where you need it to go and fire the shot as you jump. This will decrease the amount of deaths with the gun.
Wow. Such a great game. So fast paced, and can really suck your time away! Favorite Weapons: 1.Laser Blaster, 2. Revolver, 3. Mines Hated Weapons: 1. Dual Pistols, 2. Dual Pistols (haha), 3. Grenade Launcher (small blast, slow reload, poor aiming). Suggested Weapons: Dual Revolvers and Nukes!
