This is why I love/hate this game. Down to a summoner battle. Sera with 1 health VS Elien with 2 health. I have first strike with Elien to kill her, 3 die. Statistically, I have a 26/27 chance of getting at least one die, but no, I roll 3 misses. Then it's her turn. 44% chance of dealing 2 damage. And guess what? It's times like this that make me laugh. O well, such is the roll of the die.
Oh, I could write a book. Read back a few pages for a good laugh with two pics posted. I rolled double-1s at least three times yesterday in not all that many rolls. Also rolled a 1-1-1-2. That's like 0.6%!!!
Yeah I did, but figured I had a 26/27 chance plus his 44% chance of missing. The odds were completely stacked in my favor..
The dice are why it's very hard to love this game wholeheartedly. The factions are abilities are extremely well designed but more often than not the dice leave a bitter taste. People say that without the dice the game would be boring, but there are numerous fun games where wounds are directly assigned, not the least of which are iOS' own Nightfall, Neuroshima Hex and Magic among others. I wish the dice rolling had been kept for just activating abilities or not at all. After persevering with the dice for over a month and in 250+ games I'm pretty close to putting the game away until the new factions are added which will inject a lot of new flavor to freshen up the scene and hopefully make me forget about the dice for another month.
I've gone over some of the one-minute strategies from Plaidhat and the Blagog blog but still can't form a proper response to Tundra Orcs decks. Anyone run into a good strategy guide?
I usually contain, and then hit them hard. Smashers are easy targets, just gang up on them with 2 or + hitters, or long-range 1-hitters. Shamans are "minor" threats, since they need to hit both dice. Fighters are some nasty bastards - I try to put my units out of their range, just in case they don't get a fury strike on me. Stay away from walls as well. Oh, and use your summoner's attack when necessary, even if he ends up sustaining a couple of hits. As long as your summoner's alive, it's all fair game These are not definite tips, certainly more experienced players will provide better guidance, but they usually help me out of harms' way against Tundra Orcs.
I hope Playdek adds the ability to view friends' factions stats in an update at some point. If we can see their win/loss record I'm sure factions stats aren't particularly confidential data. It would really help to avoid the PE/GD/TO mainers.
Yeah I'd say that's how I play TO too. They are great at turtling, so just be patient and let them come to you. Build magic, and then hit them hard. Also, think about destroying the ice walls. You get magic for hitting them, and they don't fight back.
Yes, good point. I'll just add that you should hit them from afar, though, because standing next to any wall makes you a potential attack victim using their "Ice Shards" or "Wall of Ice" or something ability (the one where all enemy units next to walls will get a hit if the dice rolls higher than... 3? 4?). Cheers!
Great game on our last one Tecwrtr! I had the worse rolls all throughout the game except on the later parts. My cultists just do consistent 0 of 2. I learned a few new things in this fight, and on one, i had to make the same mistake twice before noticing. Cultist abilities are triggered only by normal attacks. Ugh. I had to lose 2 Cultists to Elien without any retaliation from any of my units because Elien got serious pewpew. I shouldve just fed them to my Reaper had i known. Same is true with Fire beast ability, but only useful when he can kill at least 2 cultists since he damages himself with his ability. My hatest card in the game is still Spirit of the Phoenix.
David Maurer, do you use this site? It's Wear The Grudge. I just wanted to say, you're quite the player, and are giving me a run for my money.
Whoa! David must be doing some significant damage. Also, it's kind of mean how GameCenter doesn't give you a notification for an unfriending
He is; he is 7-3 against me. I can only seem to win with Cloaks. Also, Gror is my most hated card in the game. I'm assuming you said that because I unfriended you? What is your GT and I'll tell you why if I recall, but I did remove a lot of people that didn't have any games on their online record.
Haha those damn Dwarves eh? I can't wait for the new factions when I can call out people even more on picking PE/GD/TO. You probably unfriendly me because I said I'm unlikely to play you in SW anytime soon and that you'll find a better challenge against PHG forum vets, which could have come across as snarky. I'm taking a break from SW overall though, I'm down to 2 games. Maybe I'll get back into it because it's hard to stay away from the game... but damn those dice!
I'm on the unfriended list as well. My sin was to explain I needed to cut down on games because I was going on vacation. Then, when he noticed I was on at the same time he was, he assumed I was giving him the runaround, so he chucked our "friend" status. No matter that i still had six games in play that needed to be finished, rather than abandoned. In fact, Mr. Grudge commented that "I was wasting his time," which I thought was rather snotty and uncalled for. He also said it was our "last communication." Wow. So, sapphire, it's probably official. Grudge is far too serious for those like you and I. He's better off, in his world of constant dice rolling, and we're better off, never having to face his dead serious countenance again. Too bad. I whomped him in our first match, didn't try too hard in the second, so the rubber match still awaits for the Zebra/Grudge championship. And it'll stay that way because I will not accept any friend invites from someone who has unfriended me. Have a wonderful life, Mr. Grudge. I mean that.
I don't feel too bad. I felt bad at times, but not everytimes. I like to think that a better player would factor in their strategy with potential of having miss rolls. If luck is not at your side, then perhaps you could pick a faction that has lesser chance to miss, Phoenix Elves maybe? I liked to play with them a while but now kinda fond of the Dwarfs...
I guess I don't mind the dice that much, it adds a bit of risk and uncertainty to even the best laid plans! the things that make me howl in frustration at times is the dumb little user errors I commit at times. Example I play Greater Raise to bring in three Cultists and I wind up pressing the done button and skipped the whole process! Needless to say KitKeat will probably win this round P.S. posting in a drama thread
