The game is harder to play on iPhone, but it's not bad that it's there. I play on iPad as much as I can, but sometimes the iPhone is all I've got with me and I can still take my turn. I just have to be more careful. :) I agree, though, that if you only had an iPhone and bought this game, it would probably not be ideal. However the good news is that everyone has the ability to try it for free and see whether or not it works for them on the small screen. If not, there's no requirement to pay for any of the IAP. You can just delete it and not have paid a thing.

Yes! The new update fixes the app icon so it now says "Summon War". (Instead of the awful 'Summ...Wars':)

The game also doesn't seem to crash every time I start it up just because I have music/podcast playing.

Those two reasons alone make this a good update.

This game is unbelievably fun and addictive. I'm still pretty awful, but I'm getting better. Can't really see how I'd beat the Dwarves in the hands of onlyphoenix since I can't even get close since he'll just kill all his own units and summon the ridiculously good heroes...

Does one need to attack one's own units until dead or can you simply have a unit kill themselves at your command?

You need to "kill" your units with either skills or attacks.

Been following this thread since it started and very tempted to join you guys. Never played Summoner Wars the physical game before.

I played the free version a few times and it seems like there is a steep learning curve? I tried Hero Academy and Outwitters before and I sucks at them. Is this game hard to pick up for a TBS noob?

Actually, learning the game is easy. It's getting to the competitive level that's a little steep. Best way to learn? Play with other players, see how they do it, and you'll learn combos and strategies in no time.

You have a very good grasp of the game and strategies already. My only advice would be to not rush so much, mix it up based on what faction you're playing against. As for our GD vs VG game, GD is a lot easier to win with. You have to pick one of three paths with VG. You can choose to turtle and summon a big champ close to your summoner and keep moving that guy forward while healing him or you can ambush the enemy summoner or a big champ with your Summoning Surges which allow you to summon during the event phase, basically allowing you to summon a unit at any position if you have a wall in your hand. Finally, you can try a rush with a few Priests backing a few Cavalry Knights or maybe a Spear Grounder.

Killing your own units for magic is very important, as it also allows you to maintain a low board presence and thus blocking your opponent's catch up events like Magic Drain or Summoning Surge, while making your own events available.

Keep at it and I'm certain you'll be beating us all regularly in no time :)

No, it's not that difficult at all. The AI will certainly give the opportunity to learn the ropes. Do it. Just be prepared for a streak of crappy rolls every once in a while as your opponent rolls nothing but 6s. Like Celeric. Lol. Or onewithchaos. Dude has voodoo chants that kill me every time. Or even tecwrtr. She obviously practices black magic. ;)

Just a reminder for the tourney folks, we have 7 open slots remaining (out of 16) for anyone looking for a diverse tournament where you'll have to test quite a few of your decks :)

And, another reminder for the iMessage Group Chat which has 8 participants now, it's sort of like an IRC channel and we talk about a lot of board games too. So if you're interested in Summoner Wars or board gaming chat, feel free to PM me your iMessage ID so I can invite you.

Thanks for that! I'm definitely working on it. Although, you have a very defensive play style which is condusive to summoning surges, magic drain etc. Might not work too well for you with Goblins ;)

I think since I like rushing, CG are slowly edging ahead to become my favorite faction. I've got a 100% record with Dwarves so far too :)

Edit: I won an online game just now without building any magic with Goblins :p Opponent rushed me with Elien so I surrounded him with fighters + horde + rage = 8 rolls VS 4 health Elien!

You're right, the CG rush style doesn't suit me and I usually have trouble with them. I want to learn them though, when you figure them out you can pass along some tips.

And yes, CG can deliver some stunning wins. I once won in the first turn with them ;) The perfect hand can be devastating.

Yeah from what I've learned so far with CG, the key is their events. They're stellar. You've got to hope for a good draw, but if you get it, you're looking at massive damage. Also, you have to hope your opponent doesn't get summoning surges and the like. Goblins are all about overwhelming the opponent, so if they can get reinforcements fast you could be in trouble. VG I think are the best equipped to deal with CG.

I kept 4 cards in my hand one turn: horde attack, rage, fighter x2

Then unleashed them all in one turn.

That's 8 hits you can make against one unit without spending any magic.

You had bad rolls?????? WOW!!! It is possible???

I am just kidding. btw I conceded the last game because my strategy died on the last turn when after three rounds of trying to kill a wall, I failed and I was left in a situation only your bad rolls could have spared me. So, you deserved the win.
