The game has started crashing for me on Create Game in the online lobby now, immediate crash on clicking the button. I've also already updated to the new binary. Sad, I was going to send out some more invites
The actual basic game system is straight forward and I think really well implemented by PlayDek - at least on the iPad. It is not really a deck building game and apparently the deck builder is not well implemented so keep away from that if you are just trying to understand the game. If you can't quite get the basic system then try going to boardgamegeek or other sites and look at some how to play videos of the boardgames. Summoner wars is fantastic fun, but it is not magic and not really a deckbuilder. Don't give up on it yet!
It feels like apple is sabotaging the launch of summoner wars or something. First, the review team released the game without letting playdek release it for themselves via flip the switch button. Second, a lot of people could not download summoner wars on its release date. 3rd, lots of crashing until apple patched it (mostly on ipad1). 4th, you are not allowed to post ratings and reviews (currently) at the istore. Thus making it look like no one is playing it. The least Apple should do is feature the app for a day or two (and all those apps that were released that had the same problems of summoner wars).
I'll side with Gabriel here, since I echoed the same a few pages back. It's not that playing online - or one on one skirmishes vs the AI isn't fun. I'll also concede that with 4 AIs at the moment the campaign would be a bit short. Not arguing that either That being said, for single-player players, having a campaign of sorts, versus AIs with different races and customized decks would certainly be fun, and give a sense of progression - as well as maybe even motivation for some to try out all the different races and explore the different deck customizations, maybe even having to adjust their own deck to suit the current opponent's one. Food Fight has a campaign of sorts, and you could argue pretty much everything that's been argued here against a campaign for Summoner Wars By the way, VeganTnT, thanks for adding me, looking forward to playing with you! Cheers, Paulo
Ascension: no campaign, still hugely enjoyable and a total joy online Nightfall: same Hero Academy: not even an AI let alone a campaign, HUGELY popular, large online community Outwitters: same, should be a hit with the online community Magic: Fun campaign, very limited online MP stunted by mono decks, live multiplayer and lack of a proprietary lobby To all those you can add other board games like Le Havre, Tigris & Euphrates, Puerto Rico, Caylus, Neuroshima Hex, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne which have an AI but no campaign and are pretty great online. Food Fight and Magic are the exception, and not the kind you're particularly likely to see a lot. A good tutorial and the game sends you on your way to fight other people or use the AI (if it's present) to learn the mechanics of the game.
I've managed to circumvent the Create Game crash by reinstalling the game. Everything was restored other than my decks, but that probably had to do with my iCloud settings. I had Documents and Data disabled, I have it enabled now.
@sapphire_neo: I'm not quite sure what is the point you're trying to make - nobody is saying that Summoner Wars will not be a great game online, hugely successful, popular, etc. Nor is anyone even trying to suggest that Summoner Wars is the exception to a rule. You focus much of your post on the fact that all these games are excellent online - and that's certainly true. Gabriel - and I, I guess - are only saying that, from our individual single-player offline perspectives, we would enjoy it if there was some sort of campaign component involved. We are not trying to claim that "everybody should agree that the game needs a campaign" - so I'm not quite sure why every time anyone even dares to suggest that they would enjoy it more if there was a campaign mode because they play a lot offline, there's a sense that people have to "defend" why the game does not need it If you feel you don't need it, that's awesome - I'll certainly not try to convince otherwise. For myself, I would certainly like to have one, as much as I'll like to play many of you online! It's just different types of gaming habits, nothing much @sapphire_neo: I _think_ I sent you an invite. It's my first time playing this online, probably will be able to get a match rolling today. Absolutely no attempt to start any sort of discussion here, by any means - just trying to reframe this and get hopefully move past it. Glad you sorted out the connection issues Cheers!
Well, if you want a campaign in the game you should take it up with Colby Dauch at PlaidHat Games. Summoner Wars does have some lore and story to explore that could work in a campaign but it's unlikely that will happen anytime soon, but it's a possibility that could be expedited if people take it up with Colby.
I've had a few close games now (against AI) where it all comes down to a single card summoner showdown, mine against theirs, both of us with no more backup cards. I move in a little (just out of their range) they do nothing, I retreat and they move closer (just out of my range) This goes on and on till I bite the bullet and go in close, only to be slaughtered hahaha... Cat and mouse, who dares wins... or more like who dares gets smashed! Anyone else find this, or more to the point, figured out a way to win against a stubborn AI opponent?
Might be worth exploring that, thanks for the tip By the way, I had never played against the Cloaks, they are a very nice faction and some great abilities! Good game we're having -- though my game crashes every time I follow the notification for my turn, don't really know why... I always have to reload the game and open the games list. Also, is anyone here "Zero Magic"?
just hit the purchase all bundle button created a bunch of games with regulars here as well... feel free to hit me up with a game or two... learning in progress contrary to some of the folks here, I do find some of the artwork for some factions to be nice...
Cloaks are a pretty tough to use faction, but yes, they are fun to use. They have the lowest win rate globally online. The game never crashes for me when using a notification. Are you on wifi or cellular data?
Wifi. It might just be my iPad 1, though Even though I reset it this morning, it's already acting up. Exciting game - I actually felt I needed an undo button moments ago, I was wondering whether to defend or go "all or nothing", but I only realized that after I placed my first card. Maybe it's for the best - you've been decimating my summoner's health, just one more hit and I'm dead.
You should have attacked with your Summoner that turn, he had 3 attack with range. As for errors, they are a part of the game and these early games will help you build a callous for them. I made the error of not summoning Nanashi last turn because I didn't notice he has 6 health and that your summoner has 3 attack.
Hah Very well played - I had ganged up on you, and my plan was to kill you on that last play, but I forgot one tiny detail: I can only attack 3 times So, I hit you with the archer, with the warrior, with another archer and then when I was going to use the special of my summoner, I was like... "why is it not highlighted...? ...oh..." I certainly want a rematch - just didn't ask straight for it 'cause I do need to get some work done this weekend, sadly. Maybe later today or tomorrow I'll invite you Thanks! Edit: is there anything people use for messaging, instead of PMs here? Edit 2: I just saw your invite - I'll certainly accept it later today or tomorrow, otherwise I know I won't get any work done Do you mind if I hit you with the elves again? Still trying to learn that faction before I go for others. Cheers!
